[Spoilers] Lenny: Season 12

Recommended Posts

Ahhhhh, ok, got it, sorry.    From her facial expression, it seems Penny expected some sort of congratulatory expression after telling Sheldon.  After all, Bernadette said, That’s fantastic,” (and appeared quite happy about it) upon finding out.  That sounds like a expression of approval, and she had as much information as Sheldon.

I hardly think that it was against her will, unless you are saying Leonard raped her.  It appears, from their later conversation, that the cause of the pregnancy was a lack of Leonard wearing a condom.  If Leonard wasn’t wearing a condom, Penny could have refuse to have sex with him.  She evidently didn’t insist on his wearing one, so they are both responsible.  Again, unless, you are claiming he had sex with her against her will.

It wasn't rape or against her will. She's the one that asked "Do you wanna"?

Don't know how you can think that Leonard should not have been upset with Sheldon.

Penny had said she didn't want kids. We can't just magically wish that away. It did happen. It could have been good news or bad news. How was Sheldon supposed to know?

I feel differently on that subject. Anyone could tell Penny was not mad or upset when she told Sheldon she was pregnant. Sheldon should have at least acknowledged their pregnancy, not just say good I wont get sick"  Well, I've ranted enough on this subject and gonna let it go.

We keep coming back to Pennys no kids declaration. If I can recall Penny never in the whole series said she did not want kids until the infamous 12x3 episode which started this whole topic. If the writers only would have inserted one damn episode whereby Penny expresses to Leonard why she did not want kids and when she got pregnant how she felt about it this whole debate would not be discussed. But the writers simply chose to ignore it until the finale.

19 posts were moved to the season 12 discussion thread.  This thread is for neutral to positive discussion of Lenny.  It is not for negative discussion of Lenny, it is not for negative discussion of other characters, it is not for replying to negative discussion of other characters.

Hello,

Haven't posted in awhile.

I was just thinking the other day that Lenny would have had their baby by now!

By my best guess, the baby would be about 3 or 4 months old.

If I'm not mistaken, in the episode where the gang was solving Stuart's murder, Penny was talking about having 2 or 3 kids as she was not putting her body thru 3 pregnancies. So one would have to be with twins.

Very true  However, she still never said she did not want kids at all.

Now, when all has been said and all has been done, I’m looking at Penny and parenthood as a journey of development. Like other things, becoming a mother was something far in the future for her. After some scares in her youth, she settled into a “yeah, someday” mentality, which suited her. Until. Until she started thinking. About marrying Leonard. About changing careers. When she thought about how they may no longer be “young and fun” I think her considerations went into overdrive. A way to stay young may be not becoming a parent. A change in her view has occurred again now that she is expecting. We did not get to see the process, but I for one imagine a lovely and loving long conversation between Penny and Leonard, where all is laid out. All is said between them and what their future holds. They always do seem to arrive there at the point of non return. Of revealing things to themselves, together, that had been hidden. That had been unsaid. The true beauty of their relationship and the totality of their love of each other was on display late in season 12. Penny’s complete support of Leonard v Beverly in episode 22 (this followed her worry, tempered support and joy and happiness for him in his professional decision and the results in episode 20) and finally their extremely evident love and devotion in episodes 23 & 24.

So, to Penny, Leonard is a “veritable Mack daddy” and together, they will have “smart and beautiful babies”....

Totally agree with yr analysis. When Penny realized that Leonard was the love of her life she was faced again with the "commitment" dark cloud that always seemed to follow her. Whenever she had to make a life changing decision she recoiled back into her shell: when Leonard asked her on a date, when she couldn't say ILY, when Leonard proposed numerous times, when she finally said yes, when after a year of engagement she was ready to take the leap into marriage, and finally when she was faced with the decision to be a mother.  I also agree with you on how we did not get to see Penny and Leonard have that conversation you mention....why she did not want to have kids and then when she found out she was pregnant telling Leonard how she felt about it.I guess the writers just didn't know how to write this sensitive and emotional subject. Too bad we all lost out.

Prob more of the case of succumbing to fanservice. They wrote themself into a corner I believe. That process was more or less, Penny embracing the idea of motherhood. I guess same with Penny embracing Leonard.

Actually, she did.  However, she didn't start out saying she didn't want kids.  It was only after she asked both Bernadette and Leonard "'what if'  she didn't want kids."  Leonard got mad, Bernadette tried to change her mind, and we all know how Penny reacts to feeling like she's been pushed into something.

That may very well be the case. But, personally I think the writers didn't care to address those those issues. They were too concerned with Shamy's Nobel. Most of season 11 and 12 were wasted on the wedding planning and Nobel crap. the writers just threw in the pregnancy bit thinking that would placate Lenny fans.

Yes, but this was in the infamous 12x3 episode. I meant throughout the whole series before that

True, but she never said she didn't want kids prior to Season 12.

Ahhhhhh, OK, sorry.  That wasn't clear to me.    Yeah, prior to that, there were several times she said she wanted kids.   Sure, the timeframe was never clear, but she did agree she wanted them.

I always wondered if the cat wasn't "alive". Which of course was a metaphor for Lenny having a sexual attraction.  The whole premise, is reliant on the cat being alive.

But, thank god it was alive. Otherwise there might have been a shenny tryst.  😉
