One of the thing that caught my eye in the Holland interview @mirs1 shared is him saying they want the ending to be surprising, not fan service, and true to the characters (well, in their eyes) and also that it probably won't be like Friends' with the moving (I'm paraphrasing, he said Friends did that finale well, implying...). Considering they already have some idea of an ending, does anyone have a guess what that could be?

One "surprising" possibility could be "it was all a dream/phantasy". Leonard's (tying it up with "The Recombination Hypothesis")? Penny's? However, I remember one of TPTB once saying that is "owned" by Newhart (words to that effect).

Nobel? That seems like "fan service".

Amy pregnant with multiples? Not all that ground breaking...

Lenny not having kids won't be surprising after 12×03.

Leonard and Sheldon find out they were switched as babies LOL Nahhh they have YS

They all move to Mars? LOL Nope, that's moving...

Some joint project?

They all move into Los Robles?

Yeah I got nothing

TBH, that part of the interview has been kind of a bummer for me, I've always envisioned TBBT ending with the main characters leaving 4A/4B, I saw some symbolism in it. Actually, I didn't care much it was similar to Friends' last scene (also because I envisioned the elevator to be fixed while they were leaving, and that didn't happen in Friends!)  but I can see why the writers want to avoid a direct comparison between the two shows. The good thing is Holland was very clear that the show will have a happy ending which stays true to the characters, so I go out on a limb here and predict there will be no pianos killing off beloved characters, LOL!

Since in another interview Holland said he was cautiously open to a possible spin off, when I read the article you mentioned I thought it could be that not everyone is moving because they might use the 4A/4B set in the new show, if it ever happens. I know this is a long shot at best at the moment, and if the ratings stay the same of the premiere during the season I dare say it will be very difficult to have a spin-off at all, but it's fun to speculate.

I've often envisioned Shamy and Lenny buying houses  - so close to each other they could share a lawn and a pool -  within a stone's throw of Howardette, and Raj moving into 4A or even taking both apartments when his finances are sound.

You got me envisioning Penny at the pool. Sorry I was daydreaming there for a minute.

From USA Today

First look: ‘Big Bang Theory’ rolls into final season with ‘Young Sheldon’ crossovers

"The Big Bang Theory" will end its run in May 2019 at the conclusion of the twelfth and final season.

"We've talked about the arc for where we want to end, but it's not all officially ingrained. I'm hesitant to talk too much about it now, but right now that's not part of the plan," says "Big Bang" executive producer Steve Holland, adding there will be "no more babies." As for the final episode, due in May, "we've talked about it. We don't know the whole thing. We have some ideas we're really excited about, but nothing set in stone yet."

"Big Bang" writers typically don't plot too far ahead, so Holland and Steven Molaro, an executive producer of both comedies, say they have time to prepare  a satisfying conclusion after it was announced in August that the new season would be its last.

"We have time to plan and hopefully do it right," says Molaro, taking a break from the taping of an upcoming "Sheldon" episode that features the return of  child prodigy (and Sheldon frenemy) Paige (Mckenna Grace), who's introduced Thursday.

Well...I get now the reason of Sheldon's "fashion" choices for date night clothes...he dresses like Tam, they even have the same shirt, LOL!!!

Also, this season there will be a Halloween episode (both on TBBT and YS), happy about that!!!

Reading that interview from USA Today, I really starting to wonder why Johnny, Kaley, Simon and Melissa are under contract for season 12. Mr Holland seems to be totally uninterested to tell about anything else than Shamy and a little bit about Raj.

Good Point   I was just getting sick reading all about how they plan to incorporate YS  with TBBT this season  It truly has become "The Sheldon Show" and I agree why the rest of the cast is there.  I have a feeling that Johnny was more relieved then disappointed for TBBT ending when he sees these scripts. Maybe we should institute a campaign to have them create a Lenny spin-off so they would get some meaningful stories

I think the story was supposed to be about both shows so ultimately that was the questioning. It seems TPTB should be worried about each show individually since both shows appear to be tanking

At least these days we know why the can’t plan too far ahead, they have to find out what the Young Sheldon writers are doing first.

You know your grasping for straws when you have a storyline that includes Stuart and Denise.

That storyline actually sounds cute. Why didn't Raj get something like that? These writers seem to give storylines to the wrong characters LOL Lenny get stories that should have been Howardette's, Stuart is getting a story that would have been better for Raj, given that he's a full main character...

Perhaps the spin-off will be Stuart's next steps.

I love stuart and Denise. Stuart is still kind of nerdy, he makes me laugh.

Yeah I think I am more excited about a TBBT Halloween episode, than a YS one. Costume idea speculation could be cool. Here is what they all wore in S6 The Holographic Excitation. Leonard as Luke Skywalker, and Penny as Princess Leia? Haha.

Although this was expected from the TR, this just fucks up the season in a major way for me.
