It is also true that it is a throw-away bone by the writers and producers of both shows. .  It probably took them 20 seconds to write the dialogue. It doesn’t matter because they don’t ever have to write it.

It matters in so far that it's canon Shamy will have kids - nothing more, nothing less.

Shamy was pretty much endgame from the beginning.

Paleyfest 2018 - Prady and Lorre on the origin of the name Amy Farrah Fowler

Quote

Prady: „She’s Amy, because it means beloved, loved“

Lorre: „...Farrah Fawcett“

Prady „...and you added the middle name of Farrah, you liked the rhythm of it. And Fowler to go with Cooper, because they’re both english profession names...so that they matched

IIRC, she was supposed to be kind of a one time(/few times) gag, a female Sheldon, that's why they looked for a matching name. But it worked so well and the rest is history.

Another point to consider. Is future syndication. They want to make money off this series for decades to come. Only way I see a divorce is if they are jumping the shark. I just don’t think they would risk passing off a certain subset of the fan base. And risk all of that. As it is. I see no evidence of such.

I have been giving this more thought and I don't think this is a major consideration. Many old shows do well in syndication that had things happen that the fans who were watching then didn't like. In syndication the show may have fans later on that didn't watch at all when it was on originally. Maybe even fans who weren't even alive them it was on, They will watch with a different eye,

I don’t see a divorce happening on this show.  But I agree that syndication is not the reason why.

It's a hard task to find a specific interview(s?), especially when you don't remember when, where and who did it. I just changed it to IIRC, but I do remember reading/hearing that they initially just had her for the episode and later on decided it was intetesting and kept her coming until they made her a regular.

It was confirmed during comic con by one of the writers, I can’t remember which one

It was confirmed on Young Sheldon last year.  It was brought up at Comic con, based on the confirmation on YS.

I don't remember that. Just Prady saying there would be no more babies, besides a poster already said that the confirmation came from that show I refuse to mention!

Seems to be difficult to tell what’s going on with Lenny. They are on the couch wearing two different sets of clothes. It looks like the one when Leonard is looking at the mail is later in the episode.

TRUE! This is one episode that I actually want to watch the entire episode!

There has be two divorces (parents) and one annulment already.

Quote

Beverly Hofstadter: Speaking of fathers, Leonard, I'm divorcing yours.
Leonard: What?
Beverly Hofstadter: Yes, he was cheating on me.
Leonard: No.
Beverly Hofstadter: Yes. With some waitress from the university cafeteria. Can you believe it? A waitress! Oh, no offense dear!

So Alfred got tired of the cold hearted, loveless bitch and found someone better. She divorced him and they are happily apart. I'm reasonably sure if George Sr hadn't died Mary would have eventually got tired of his drunken, cheating ways and divorced him as well.

I'm not sure how important the parents divorces were to the show. Same goes for the annulment. A season 12 divorce would be remembered.

Honestly, I also would think they had her on sporadically to test the reactions at first cause that's how they work in general. If the audience didn't take to Amy they would have written her out (maybe even without much fuss like they did with Bernie for a while). But I have never seen an actual interview confirm this, hence my inquiry.

I can also remember that topic, but unfortunately I don't have the time or the muse to do more research. I think I heard this in one of the numerous previous interviews with Lorre and/or Prady in one of the DVD specials. Or on the occasion of one of the ComicCon panels.
Maybe Mr. Data Tensor can help us. 😉
