I just hope this won't be the last time somebody can post the above. I enjoy being in this forum.

We'll see! I enjoy being here as well.

I will say that watching the show now, for me, like putting on a comfy old dressing gown. It's not going to excite my partner very much, or me, as we know how it fits, though maybe there is some disappointment that it doesn't quite cover as much as at least one of us would like. But I'd still put it on if it was there.

I really like the way you described your feelings on the present show.

Thank you. I have been quite the fan, in my small way. I’ve travelled to the USA for a taping in Jan 2014 (James Earl Jones & Carrie Fisher), I hunted down Tensor in Florida for a tête-à-tête, I embarrassed myself when I  worked in the film industry support roles by  telling people how funny and good the show was (these were real film makers I was telling), and I was part of the original L&P defense team of 2012 taking up cudgels against all the wowsers and college age yahoos who decried Penny as a slut, rather than the cheerful amateur enthusiast of informal congress that I believed she was.

I enjoyed Sheldon as brain-in-a-jar and consider his “conversion” to conventional heterosexual norms to be as unlikely as any other switch in sexual orientation.  I further enjoyed his serious and unapologetic intellectualism and preferred that to his current setting of being like a precocious 12 year old with regular tantrums and almost ”Hallmark greeting card” level of, dare I say, popular but mawkish sentimentality.

I’m always disappointed when I watch now, but I gave up bitching for what can’t be. And I’m too literal to enjoy Penny and Leonard play out in fan fiction, because what the writers put on screen generally contradicts what the fans put on the page.

But I have an abiding residual affection for the show. I may even be up to date with S11... I’m not sure, but I have seen the wedding and except for a scarcity of Leonard and Penny, I thought it was a pretty good episode.

I thought there was more Leonard and Penny than usual, and they showed more affection to each other than we tend to see. Just goes to show how impressions can vary.

I guess I can accept 2 or 3 minutes of Lenny as long as happy together and not snarky with each other,

Yeah, but as long as they're happy or not arguing, it's OK. Besides, I can fast forward past the rest.  😏

I’m not as easily pleased as you are. With Shamy gone to me in the season 12 opener was an opportunity for a Lenny storyline. Instead Amy’s parents apparently are going to be interacting with them. Not only that their appearance IMO can never be good as their appearance in the finale.

Yeah, I'm not easily pleased as well. I try to make the best out of a bad situation. Thus, fast forwarding past the Shamy and family nonsense. I know it's not a perfect solution, but I watch Lenny without Shamy. But I do like Teller!

Another confirmation of Sheldon's childhood friend Tam showing up on TBBT and possibly Billy Sparks, too. I'd be interested in Tam, but not in Billy.

I thought a tam was a Scottish cap. Here I am thinking Sheldon's childhood friend was a cap. Oh well, how am I to know, I've never watched that show and I never will!

More about preference than anything really. I’m nostalgic for when Ms Cuoco  and Mr Galecki were leads, and not in minor supporting roles. And contrast the treatment of the three weddings of the three fictional couples. The characters Leonard and Penny were degraded by the North Sea debacle and further minimised by webcam wedding. And none of it was comedic, which can be an excuse for cringeworthy situations.  It was a unfunny disaster. Sheldon got a dream run, and a happy ending. As a fan of the unlikely pair - WTF!

So I’m biased. The show can’t ever make amends for that, because they have been so successful with Sheldon as hero, juvenile as he is, and the slightly more adult situation of mis-matched Leonard and Penny is harder to write for and less broadly appealing. Maybe they can write them more into the foreground  now the Sheldon/Amy arc is concluded. What are the odds.

But the tone is set. It’s going to be an immature pre-teen coping with married life. I shake my head at the juxtaposition of Sheldon-as-unknowing-goshdarnit-I’m-just-a-big-kid with Sheldon the petal throwing romancer. It’s unsettling. And Amy goes for it. Hmmm, unsettling again. Nyet spacibo! as Donald might say. :)

Really, I want Sheldon back in his box, but that’s never going to happen.

So let’s see what s12 gives us. Much to further bitch about I guess, but hey.

Shamys wedding was too conventional for my tastes. It was nice. But the fact Sheldon and Amy faced really no roadblocks. Guess bothers me. Lenny obviously since North Sea Debarcle. We got a Wedding Via Satelitte. After S8 where they barley referenced they were engaged. Than the payoff you got was a whos who of an experemental are we married now? S9,10, and 11. Who knows the writers are clearly clueless. Leonard and Penny are not an old married couple.

Preference is one thing. I do clamour for the days Cuoco and Galecki were the major romantic leads. And not relegated to fodder. Call it nostalgia. But after years of nuetralization. It gets to the point when you've just had enough. I did too prefer Sheldon when he was more clever and witty. And made references like

"Okay look, I think that you have much chance of having a sexual relationship with Penny as the Hubble Telescope does of discovering at the centre of every black hole is a little man with a flashlight searching for a circuit breaker. Nevertheless, I do feel obligated to point out to you that she did not reject you. You did not ask her out".

OR this classic scene. String Theory Dialogue

Opposed to 12 year old tantrums, and references to poodles and taylor swift songs. OR that one episode last season. Where he abandoned physics. To become a mechanic...

I am not sure if this is a reflection on the writing, or a change in characterisation. But never was a fan of the change.

So well see with s12. More bitching prob 😄

I think the first two episodes will be about shamy's honeymoon and Amy's parents. BORING!

Looks as though it might be interesting, even though we've learned to take these pre-season promises/threats/speculations/predictions with a pinch of salt. Unfortunately the video is not viewable outside North America. If anybody can upload it so the rest of us can see it, that would be helpful.

If guest stars typically have a three-episode contract that may well be so. I wouldn't find that boring myself, but would expect  also to see the others having a good time while Shamy are away. You may be pleasantly relieved.

Well, I'll hope for the best, but expect the worse. Ehh, there's always the fast forward option.

Sorry, that goes against my self-imposed ban on watching any part of that show. I'm sure that others that like that show would be helpful to your request.

But can you see what us Lennies have been reduced to? It's not fair.

For me the show will not return to its glory days until we have 30% Lenny, 12% Shelnard, 20 % Howardette/Howard-Raj, 13% Shamy, 25% group interaction/non-specific situations/girl or boys alone.

I know it's a pipe dream, I know it will not happen, but TBH that would the only distribution of screen time that I would love.

I totally agree. What you want for time distribution is probably a pipe dream. IMO that is an acceptable distribution. But is a different time with a set of writers with a different show in mind. They are so pro sheldon/shamy and the remaining cast is delegated to being glorified recurring guest stars!

I guess it is too much to wish from the writers that Lenny and Howardette does have their own stories at the start of season 12, because Shamy is on a honeymoon.

I removed the last sentence within seconds but wasn't fast enough. I'd forgotten about the rule.

We have to be bored with their while we heard nothing of the others.

I don't think that is typical.  Bob Newhart asked for a three episode contract or he was not interested. He has done more than three now. 😃 I think guests typically get contracts episode by episode and see how it goes. My understanding is that Mayim originally was brought in for one episode and it worked. Kathy Bates has a character that could shake things up.
