“At this point, the pair has fallen into the trap of being regularly involved in their friends' issues but failing to address their own problem about being dangerously complacent in their relationship.”

Yep that’s how I feel about Lenny atm. They get involved in their friends issues. But avoid their own. Tptb seem pretty complacent with them obviously. Seems like the show has acknowledged their problems. But Doesent seem they intend on addressing any of them any time soon. Watch this space.

TPTB tend to recognize problems the audience/critics point out but not solve them. Many times they just make them into jokes, comments said by charcters (e.g., the latest "Penny is a bully", Raj bringing up elephants when talking about Bernadette's pregnancy at the beginnig of the second one that turned out to be discovered like a day after conception, Sheldon saying he was always between Leonard and Penny...), and that's it.

Thing is their was once upon a time, they would actually sit down and address these issues. Season 6 for example. The Tangible Affection proof. These days they would just skip the part where they make up, and/or turn it into some gag. Where as back then. Leonard confronted Penny. Instead of just letting her get away with it. They resolved it and evolved as a consequence. I guess you could argue the whole baby talk. While they discussed it. Leonard submitted pretty easily.

One of the things I have taken away from this season is that there is a real lack of 'friendship' overall this season compared to seasons past.  I think as the show has gotten older you have seen signs of this tight-knit group slowly starting to fray around the edges a bit and come a bit lose, maybe that's just life?

Friendship has always been at the very core of the show and if I was Lorre or Prady I would want the lasting legacy of the show to be the theme of friendship and camaraderie. This should be a final season full of great friendship moments and yet it's severely lacking on that front in my view and it's not like the storylines haven't provided an opportunity to do so, see for example how Bernadette, Sheldon and Amy and the lack of support they gave during the Leonard and Penny baby discussions as one example.

Also conflict and friction this season seems to be almost exclusively internally driven from the confines of their group, I think in past seasons you would see more external pressure/influences leading to their friends rallying around them.  I think they need to have more challenges externally that they react to, need advice from friends and deal with.

This season just needs to pick up.

I agree with all you said with special attention to the bolded part above. Season 12 has been a bust so far. I have high hopes for this weeks episode. The show going out with a bang has been all talk and no action thus far, IMHO!

Just as much a bust as 8,9,10, and 11.

Based on his assumed age, retired? 😁

Very well could be. I think Janine Davis took over as Dean of Physics. I think she was last year in the episode Leonard said that Physics was dead in that radio interview in Episode 11/2, I think it was.

I highly doubt she is the dean of Physics. She has always been referred to as Ms. Davis, rather than Dr. Davis or Prof. Davis, which suggests me she is  is a member of the staff (at a very high level, of course, as she was in charge of reprimanding Leonard on the occasion you mention)  and not a member of the faculty.

After all, she's not an engineer. 😁

You're probably right.

She had some good lines in that episode. I still remember her reaction to Sheldon calling her a slave in season 6. She's close to Kaley with the facial expressions. Close, but no cigar!

I think up until now season 12 is far worse than 11. 11 was IMO mostly kind of boring but in a harmless way (and Lenny were much better, even though they weren't on screen enough for me), while many of the episodes this season not only bored me but also really upset me, with 12×03 being one of the episodes that most upset me throughout the whole series (we're talking over 250 episodes here).

Man the Friendship Dynamics have been redundant since around S6. When the dynamics shifted to more coupiling. Than Group Dynamics. Heck you could say as far As S4.

Bernadette having a woman cave and the last of Kripke in a main plot hopefully

Is Big Bang on break Nov 8th?

Leonard well be the main plot. That Bernadette plot sounds a B Plot to me.

I really enjoyed Lenny in 12x03. One of their better episodes in a loooong time. I enjoyed seeing Penny be afraid of being a mother. And Leonard having to deal with it. I Would of hated if they made Penny lie to Leonard to make him happy. A baby doesent deserve that. Mostly I just enjoyed the plot.

I dont see any real difference between them this season than the past 3. They are still dangerously complacent in their relationship.

They did not present her as being afraid. It may be, but it wasn't what they presented, on the surface, in that episode. Also, Penny wouldn't have to lie if they hadn't changed her mind about having children. Both the change and the way it was handled had upset me terribly.

But that is my opinion. I'm happy for those who enjoyed the episode.

Well i guess I never thought she was that committed to the idea of Children originally. Let alone changing her mind. And Leonard half wanted it through out the series. I understand you personally thought she wanted kids. So this was a surprise to you. But for me personally, I just never got that impression ever she was fully committed. Other than sporadic conversations. As far as Recton goes. If she has changed her mind. Shes entitled to do so. I wouldent want her misleading Leonard.  So I guess my degree of emotion was not as strong as yours because of it. I Dont know they talked it through, seemed to come to a resoloution. And moved on. So unless they bring it up again. I dont know I was not that upset by it.
