Oh definitely not a morality story! It just felt unnecessary in this case.

Just a setup for the tag perhaps.

IF you look back at the course of the past 12 seasons. You would find most of the guys Moral Compass is wonky to say the least. And for the record I have no issue with Characters in this sitcom making slightly unethical decisions. Maybe Narccistic decisions. To some degree. I agree would be boring if they were all perfect or normal. I have no issue with Leonard doing a selfish action. As it is rare he gets a win. I just recall The Itchy Brain Stimulation Season 7. Sheldons behaviour was outrageous. But you expect that from Sheldon. Not Leonard. So maybe thats the heart of this.

I think you are right.

The theory (as expressed in 7.12) has been the unexpected is often funny. We all expect to Leonard to be selfless at least much of the time.

It would have been almost the exact same if he had chosen the telescope, that's why I'm saying it wasn't worth it.

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on your point of view. I personally liked his choice, others don't. I like that he was "selfish", others don't. Woulda, coulda, shoulda, in the end it don't matter because that's how it written and what we got! All it did basically is give us something to debate! A good debate never a bad thing and can be fun.

It would be so awesome if they had him get hurt doing something to protect Penny and we just have Penny fawn all over him for an episode.  It would be very in character for him to put himself in front of Penny to protect her and getting hurt instead.

I'm afraid that would take too much rewriting. They probably have most of the ep set already. If they explain, I think it will be only a couple of lines.

Maybe not, I'm sure rewriting has happened to explain an issue.  Probably would only take a line or two, then explained more completely later.

the only thing they should have did towards the beginning was have Leonard mention he had a project too but withdrew when he found out he was making the decision.

Leonard had options. Siebert told him didn't care who got the money. So without any guidance from the boss he made the decision. He made it, some don't like and call it selfish. Me, I say yes it's probably selfish and I like the decision.

Leonard being selfish is funny precisely because It is unexpected (but not unheard of).

He learned from the best, Sheldon. Living with someone for over 10 years, he's bound to pick up some unwanted and unneeded bad habits.

I have not said anything about this, as my opinon is quite different from the majority I believe.  I am with you in that I like the decision. However, I do not find it selfish.  The laser will benefit the university in that it may lead to new discoveries and have far reaching  uses.  That Leonard's work will benefit is also good for CalTech.  Who knows what projects he may be able to obtain for them.

I see Leonard as just being fed up with all the attention and selfishness being thrown at him. Howard was particularly boorish in that regard.  Others were looking to spend the funds on very personal items (a koi pond for their office?  Please!)

Anyway.  I am fine with how Leonard awarded the funding.  It will in the end benefit the university well into the future.  (my unsolicited, non-expert opinion)

I agree, Personally I don't think it's selfish. I just said that maybe it was. I have no problem with the decision as well!

I think Sheldon trying to sabotage his wife's career is being selfish. Leonard buying a laser for the department is not.

Yes.  Getting lost in all this "Leonard is selfish" malarkey is the fact that his using the grant money to purchase a laser will benefit the university.  As opposed to a koi pond......

Gentlemen, I would like to put a psychological approach based on a well known self-recognition into the discussable frame here.

Leonard’s actions were somewhat selfish or at least unfair.  Sheldon’s actions regarding Amy’s career was entirely self centered and demeaning, humiliating to her and would lead to a quickie divorce or annulment if Amy had a spine (or was not in a sit-com).  Selfish can span a pretty wide spectrum of things including  Not splitting the dessert evenly.

Personally, I don't think so! I guess we'll have to disagree!

You would think in the last season of the show they wouldn’t have a “filler”episode.

That's no surprise for me.  😉

It's not a filler episode, they are progressing Raj's relationship in this one.

WOW! Only took them 11 and a half years to do that! I'm impressed that TPTB would finally get around to poor Raj. Better late than never!

Oh I agree, they wouldn’t change anything, in the first few episodes, when they found out it was the last season so them making anything but minimal lip service to Johnny’s injury, a couple of lines, would be totally in character for TPTB.
