Oh I agree, they wouldn’t change anything, in the first few episodes, when they found out it was the last season so them making anything but minimal lip service to Johnny’s injury, a couple of lines, would be totally in character for TPTB.

That'll be all it would take and then they wouldn't have to play hide and seek with Johnny's hand.

WOW! Only took them 11 and a half years to do that! I'm impressed that TPTB would finally get around to poor Raj. Better late than never!

Bringing in a new character just seems stupid to me when they could have just brought back a past girlfriend, he actually cared for, to give him a relationship.  Why do we have to go through a Raj love story in the last season?

Well, the only "real" novelties in the show can come from Raj at this point, he is the only one whose life is up in the air...and I'm not just referring to his love life, but also his finances, work, etc.. The other storylines can be wrapped up in a few episodes. The writers seems determined to keep homeostasis in the other characters' lives (no career opportunities elsewhere, no new homes, no kids...), so I don't see major things happening to them for the next 7-8 episodes.

That's a good question.

OK, a sensible explanation.

Fair point, but since he didn't even know what he wanted it for, I'm not so sure.

Just to play "devil's advocate" I'm not so sure he (Leonard) just pulled "I want a laser" out of thin air. Despite saying he didn't want to know anything about how the funds were being awarded, Seibert would have to answer for expenditures on items not needed (like a koi pond {i know i keep going back there, but....}) to contributors, trustees, etc. A laser can be just as helpful to the university, just as needed as the telescope Raj was looking for.  Again, I did not find Leonard's act selfish.....

I don’t agree, Penny having a career she can be happy with, especially since she doesn’t want to be a mommy.  The guys getting some recognition, tenure, promotions, even a nobel.  Raj maybe straightening out a little, and like I said, getting back with one of the women he really cared for.  Right now the show feels like to me that TPTB just want to get the show finished as cheaply and quickly as possible so they can move on, I see no enthusiasm this season at all from anyone.

That was exactly my point, there are things the writers could have done, but they seem to have decided otherwise, they don't seem to want to invest in horizontal story arcs anymore, Raj apart.

I have to agree. The last two episodes were an improvement. We'll have to see if it continues.

the only thing they should have did towards the beginning was have Leonard mention he had a project too but withdrew when he found out he was making the decision.

This is a comedy show and what you suggested is not funny.

Leonard being selfish is funny precisely because It is unexpected

That's the definition of the show!

Season 12 would improve if it scrapped all the scenes not related to Raj

The only way to do right by Raj would be to make him the main character for the first 22 episodes

Then the series finale can be about the other 3 couples divorcing and Raj being the only one that found happiness

I agree with you on this I have no interest in a Raj love story , mainly because he is my least favourite character and in my opinion a douche and a opportunist one at that. Also the plot for him in this episode  doesn't really make much sense I mean it's not like he hasn't had sex before why would he get so nervous it brings ack his mutism?. I guess we'll find out when we watch the episode my guess is he's worried that if it's not good then it could affect his upcoming marriage to Anu, and  that's what he's nervous about. Maybe they'll have Penny and Bernadette help him over it probably with a dig at their own husbands in the process.

I like Anu so far, I think they were nice in the party. I personally had another kind of person and love story for him in mind (as you can see in my story, chapter 4 in "Celebration Aberration" and 9 in the "main" story), but I think Anu can work and want to see how this works out.

I think Raj deserves a love story, wether it is with her or one that comes after her when he's losing hope. It's not like the other guys are/were so much better people than he is, arguably he treated some of his girlfriends worse but they're all not the most noble people, why do they deserve a partner and he does not?

I think he may be nervous because he likes Anu and is afraid this is a potential deal breaker, that if he doesn't "deliver" she might break up with him. Maybe he will get over it when interacting with her, that will sure strengthen my faith in their relationship.

That's fine if you feel that way , but I don't think he does deserve a love story. I also disagree the other guys are better than he is even Sheldon when it comes to relationships.

Also in my opinion there is nothing arguable about his treatment of some of his girlfriends he was a jerk . He ditched Emily his long term girlfriend for Claire a woman he barely knew. He then preceded to date them both casually behind both there backs . Even getting his friends when they met Claire to not reveal what he was up to but ended up doing just that himself. So in my opinion he doesn't deserve a love story .

I didn't mean it was arguable whether he was a jerk or not to his exes, he was. I meant it as something that goes against him in comparison to the other guys.

All of the characters can be douches or opportunists at times, as has been pointed out. None of them are exactly noble all the time. He's a main character and deserves a story.

It would have been so much fun to see his parents [who were very funny] come to Calif to arrange a marriage for him.  Academia is full of girls from India.

That would have been great fun.

I never said they weren't although i don't think Penny has but i could be wrong. However Raj stands head and shoulders above the rest with of them in these behaviors. Im not talking in number of times but in the magnitude. Like just last season he took credit for the discovery even though it was Penny who found it. Or like I've already mentioned he dumped6his girlfriend. For a woman he barely knew then started seeing both effectively cheating on them. Or how about when he hoped that Bernadette would break up with Howard( his best friend) .So he could date her instead, who other than a complete jerk would do that. Now Sheldon is probably just as bad, however Sheldon has a excuse due to the way he is. Raj doesn't.

Agreed!

Disagree. He's had more than enough chances and he's screwed them up. The writers have decided to have as broken. Besides, he has his story with Cinnamon! 😄
