The reason they didn't give Penny a prestigous partner during their time apart as they did Leonard was it would of affected what they where trying to portray. They wanted to Show Penny upset and jealous whilst he dated Priya to show that Leonard meant alot more to her than she was willing to reveal. Had she been dating a professional athelete at the time she wouldn't have been concerned about who Leonard was dating, besides how on earth would Penny meet such a guy?. The whole point of the Priya relationship with Leonard was to show that Penny was not over Leonard culminating in the revelation to Raj that she had screwed up and never should of broken up with him. Had she had been dating a guy like you suggest that had little chance of that ever being revealed.

As usual I'm in complete agreement. You just stated better than I could!

Another Shamy centered episode with a dash of Howard/Howardette. Well, at least it doesn't seem to be bad for Lenny, so I guess that's something...

I guess we can thank our lucky stars that the writers spared Lenny from arguing and being snippy toward each other!

I get your point, and I'm not saying what they did was necessarily better. What I meant was maybe being with someone with more potential would be more serious in her eyes and that would bring up her fears or the feeling of replacing Leonard that maybe she didn't want to feel. Zach was more of an escape, like being with somebody without really being with somebody. I do think that it was nice to see that Leonard was the one who was able to move on faster than Penny (in fact she never really did), showing he's not so lame and desperate for Penny.

By Leonard moving on Penny realized what a great guy he was and that she might have made a mistake in breaking up with him. Eventually all worked out.

It took a drunk Penny to admit out loud. I don't remember Raj being a good friend and letting Leonard know Penny's feelings.

I think there was quite abit that Raj held back from Leonard  He did not let Leonard know about her feelings. He did not tell Leonard that Priya was going back to India. He still got in bed with Penny knowing that she really loved Leonard. He did not want anyone to know of his premature embarrassment but yet bragged to all how he bedded Penny.  These factors surely do not show him as a good friend

Yeah, he's a lousey friend. He takes pleasure in mocking and teasing his "friends", but doesn't like it when he gets mocked or teased! But, you can say the same for Howard, Sheldon and in a sense Leonard!

I’m sorry if Penny had dated anyone seriously. It would of undermined the whole purpose of Leonard and Penny. It’s fine seeing Leonard have a serious relationship with Priya. But I’m sorry it would not work the same with Penny. I beleive this was deliberate from the writers. Penny doesent do serious. She wasent ready for a long term commitment with Leonard. So their break up was purposely done to give the character space. And drag it out over more profitable seasons. I’m sorry I’m glad Penny was not like Jackie in That 70s show. It’s like if Amy had a serious boyfriend. Lenny and Shamy are special.

As has been pointed out, Capt. Hilts did not say serious. They said more status. And I totally agree with that. Dating someone who wasn't dumpster fire material would have made her seem more high class herself, which the writers never pushed in those days.

The guests don't stay at home with new babies they bring them along.

Yes, but if she'd had birth complications, a long distance to travel with her bunch of kids, something like that, it would be an excuse not to have her. Not that the show is always logical anyway. If she's not there and there is no reason given, though, it will really be the writers being extra sloppy, though.

I liked this episode a lot because of its depth and the character development. It is also beautifully written and the video tape is an excellent means to bring in the Young Sheldon characters. If you have any questions please ask, I’ll try to answer them.

My quoting is getting messed up again. To Silver1984, THANK YOU!  It sounds like it will be cute, tie in decently and not a total YS ep like some had feared. To Capt. Hilts, also TOTALLY, thank you. That is how I feel, too.

Again, not "serious," but a date with a guy having "status."

Had she dumped a major league baseball player to be with Leonard, then the "she settled for him" jokes would not work.

She would meet such a guy at the cheesecake factory, the gym, whatever.  I see all sorts of celebrities [political, news] at a dodgy diner by my house.  A sports/news broadcaster.  She's always depicted as the sportsfan on the show.

Penny is supposed to be the "hot" girl, but she was only shown dating brawny knuckle-draggers.  She's cute and funny and would have been able to attract a better class of guy.  The exception was seeing that physicist who was a complete cad.

Leonard was supposed to be the one who had difficulty with women, yet women threw themselves at him.

As depicted on the show, their experiences dating others was the opposite of the premise of the show.

For me, my view is that after breaking up with Leonard, Penny ran away from the world of relationships.  The last thing she wanted was anything serious.  She fell back into what she was familiar with.  Also someone who was very unlike Leonard (the love of her life, even then.  She was just unable to give voice to those feelings, to admit it to Leonard and to admit it to herself).  Luckily, Zach was a kinder, gentler version of the "type" that she usually went for.

I'm glad she stayed away from Kurt and Mike. Zack was a nice tweener even though she drunk married him!

I think she already knew that (she actually says this in the video in "The Bitcoin Entanglement"), but this showed her how painful it would be for her to see Leonard moving on. She did not break up with him because she wanted to be broken up with him, she had her issues, that rised because she knew he was a great guy, and she thought she was doing what was good for him.

She should have listened to her father..........Leonard was a keeper!

@Silver1984, Could you elaborate on an Shamy moments in particular?

Hi guys, there seem to be no details about the thanksgiving taping, so I’ll fill you in a little. Sorry for not posting earlier. This was due to travelling and illness.

To start with I was surprised that everything that had been taped, had already been broadcast. So we got to see 1209 which had already aired before the taping.

1210 is a direct continuation of 1209 “The Citation Negation”. I’ll give you the name of the episode when I am home and have dug out the little program of the show. There are lots of guest stars: Iain Armitage, Lance Barber, Montana Jordon and Christine Baranski. I almost screamed when I read this so my excitement was huge 😊.

Sheldon is still upset about the Russian Paper so Amy goes over to Lenny to find out if there is anything she can do that she hasn’t tried yet to cheer him up. Leonard suggests tea but Amy tells him that Sheldon now questions everything and has renamed tea into “leaf soup” 😉

So Leonard gives Amy an old video cassette and VCR with a recording Sheldon had apparently made as a child for himself for an emergency like this.

We get to see the first minutes of the tape (Iain speaks) but then the tape changes to a football match his father had taped so the original footage is gone. Sheldon is devastated. Leonard’s mother is video chatted for advice. While Sheldon is in the bedroom Amy continues to watch the video. After a while Sheldon comes out and asks “why are you watching this”? Amy explains that she hoped that there is something left of the recording. It is then when we get to see Lance Barber talking to his football team including Montana. The team had lost horribly so Lance explains that you actually learn more from mistakes than from success (this is actually very sweet). Both Amy and Sheldon are surprised to see his dad on tape. Then Amy begins thinking that they have made a mistake and that the Russian paper could be right but that there are more sides to super asymmetry (sorry, I can’t remember the exact wording). So in the end they are both back on track.

There is a little side story where Howard plays “the great Howdini” which is quite funny.

I liked this episode a lot because of its depth and the character development. It is also beautifully written and the video tape is an excellent means to bring in the Young Sheldon characters. If you have any questions please ask, I’ll try to answer them.

Could you elaborate on shamy plot?

Anyone who has watched the show from the beginning knows  that all the jokes about their relationship don't work as they go against what was shown .

Leonard's only difficulty with women was he was not confident enough to ask them out( Except for Penny), however women were attracted to him and had no problem coming onto him.
