We see throughout the show Penny talking about being worried about Leonard leaving her for someone smarter or because he grows tired of her but then she dumps this whole thing about not wanting children now on him, without any thoughts about what that could do to their relationship. I really felt when Leonard found out her decision and left the apartment she should have been more upset that her past fear came true, he left her, and she should have chased after him or contacted the girls upset about what was happening. The whole Batmobile thing was cute but seemed too smug on her part, it was just like her buying him a helicopter when Sheldon told the magazine he was the one who discovered Leonard’s theory, it was just something to distract him from the real problem, so she did not have to discuss that problem with him. It was just like earlier seasons when she would run away from problems with him. Therefore, I’m looking forward to the episode with the sperm donation and I hope this is addressed again because I do want some ramification to Penny’s decision if this is the final way they are going. 1 hour ago, Tensor said: If we only had someone going to the next taping... I think it would be quite unrealistic and not true to the character if he suddenly 'toughened up', he's wimpy (all the guys are obviously) and he's a whiner. Actually, beginning in season's 3 through 7 (and even into the early part of season 8), he wasn't. What they depict now, is not true to the character he was then. So, is it unrealistic for them to depict him the way they do now?

I don't agree with your perception of the character during those seasons, to me like I said he is 'whimpy' (all of the guys are, I repeat that) and he whines a lot (A LOT). I can remember in recent seasons he has come across as whiny and that there has been a deliberate emphasis in both dialogue and scene to allude to that fact. If he toughened up I wouldn't care, but it definitely wouldn't be true to the character for me. And why does he need to toughen up anyway? When interacting with his wife? Sheldon is the biggest whiner in my opinion. If he doesn't get his way, he will cry and whine until he does! You mean like when he was fighting with Penny in season three? Or his dating Priya in season 4, and messing with Penny in season 4. What about asking the night out with Penny, where he pushed her, or asking Penny out in season 5 or his burn of Penny at Howardette's wedding? Hhis pushing Penny in the first episode or season six, or most of season six for that matter. Remember the Valentine's Day episode, where he confronted her, he was pretty wimpy there, wasn't he? Or how about season 7? Seriously turning down Penny's proposal twice (cause I don't think he was serious at the funeral), before actually accepting. They didn't do much with them in season 8, but the one where they double date he didn't look wimpy. I can give you more examples if you wish. 2 minutes ago, Jonny said: I can remember in recent seasons he has come across as whiny and that there has been a deliberate emphasis in both dialogue and scene to allude to that fact. I'll be more than happy to listen to what you consider a wimpy Leonard in those seasons. But that's why he's seemed off to me for the last few years. Not necessarily toughen him up, just get him back to what he was in those seasons.

Yes not to change his character altogether but once in awhile show some indignation about what he is feeling like the examples you have shown. And I found when he left the apartment when she told him about not wanting kids that was the perfect opportunity to confront both of their fears. That is why this Zack episode is coming up. I can see this could have many implications for how their story will end. 2 hours ago, SRAM said: We see throughout the show Penny talking about being worried about Leonard leaving her for someone smarter or because he grows tired of her but then she dumps this whole thing about not wanting children now on him, without any thoughts about what that could do to their relationship. That's why I said I'd be interested in what Johnny considers his wimpy moments in those seasons, as I provided a short list off the top of my head (as I said, I can point out more). It's my contention that during that period (seasons 3-7), they wrote Leonard as non-wimpy with wimpy moments and starting in season 7 de-evolved him, back to being wimpy.
