Just Googled them.

I know Kal Penn from HIMYM, don't know Sean Astin.

With Prady's tweet I thought the casting will be someone well known in the sci-fi world, although maybe they're not who he meant.

Stranger Things is kind of a big deal nowadays...Plus Astin was in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and in The Goonies, I can see why (if he was referring to him, of course) Prady might be excited. I myself love Stranger Things, so I'm excited! Not a fan of The Goonies and LOTR, instead!

Sean Astin is very well known over here.  His parents were both actors:  John Astin (actually his step-father) was Gomez on the 1960's show The Addams Family.  His mom was child actress Patty Duke (The Diary of Anne Frank and she had her own television show in the 60's where she played "cousins. Identical cousins....").

Sean his famous in his own right as being the star of the cult-classic movie Rudy and of course for his role as Samewise Gamgee (Sam) in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  Stranger Things is pretty popular over here as well.  Sean Astin being cast is really a coup.

It is a big deal in my household.

Sam was my youngest daughters favorite character in LOTR. In my generation of my family the LOTR books were big.

For me Sean Astin made the second season of Stranger things a lot more interesting.

I hope they make good use of him!

For me it is the biggest news on this site since we first heard of Mark Hamill having a role in 11.24.

I am so, so, so embarrased!  Patty Duke did NOT star in The Diary of Anne Frank.  It was The Miracle Worker.  She originated the role on Broadway and won an Academy Award for the movie version.  In both versions she starred opposite Anne Bancroft.  I am so embarrased and apologize for getting this so very very wrong.....

Don't worry about it. We all make mistakes.

The CBS sitcom has cast Kal Penn (Designated Survivor) and Sean Astin (Stranger Things) to guest-star in an upcoming episode as Drs. Campbell and Pemberton, a team of physicists who accidentally confirm the marrieds’ complex scientific concept, TVLine has learned.

I like Sean Astin.

Don't worry about it. It was a long time ago. I wish they had used Patty Duke. I thought the girl they did use in Anne Frank was terrible. She was a model, I think. Patty would almost certainly have played it better.

It’s nothing against the actors but the predictable storyline.

Thanks

A brief look at Google mostly showed Stranger Things. While it is very successful, I think these writers are usually more excited about actors from older times, like LOTR...

He doesn't know about the marker on episode name method... But I can't see what's written there...

Also, I wonder if there will be anything about the Zack thing next week since the main thing seems to be about super asymmetry...

In his IG post Kal Penn said..."Can’t wait to join these guys for an episode next week!"

Melissa's script was blue in the IG picture that @luminous posted earlier today. There is no sticker in the upper right hand corner that shows his name and character name.  Also it is not bound by clips and it is very thin.  Based on these clues I don't think he is in the episode that they are rehearsing and taping this week, but will join the cast next week for the next episode.

More than likely it was the material he was sent (know as the "sides") to either audition or to convince him to appear.

I'm not so sure about that. Kal Penn's script has #1213 on it, which I read as episode 13 of season 12.

While it's possible that they could be filming the episodes out of order due to guest star availability, I think Kal's use of "next week" refers to the taping this coming week.

I guess we'll have to wait for more clues or a taping report.

Great news about the Sean Astin casting. Really liked him on Stranger Things, and of course Lord of the Rings. Bit like the Christopher Llolyd casting though. The fact they are still continuing the uninspired, listless Super Asymetry plot. Is a bit underwhelming to say the least.

Of course they will go on to the next episode with Shamy not showing any resolution for Lenny.........typical  TBBT  maneuver!

How do you know that this is what is going to happen?
