Parsons will be known as the actor that killed TBBT while it was the most popular show on network TV.

How unfair would that be ? If, when CBS and Warner Bros announced in S 10 they'd stump up for Ss 11 and 12, they'd offered anybody S 13 they didn't say so. < sarcasm > I don't recall any magazine articles at the time saying,' Only two seasons ? Why not three or four ?'. The viewing public have no way of knowing how any negotiations for further seasons would have turned out even if they had taken place. The purse string holders might well have said they weren't interested. Jim Parsons stated early on he wasn't up for any more renewals. That was fair. Everybody knew where they stood. For all we know there could have been others who felt the same.

No, he will be known as Sheldon. Years from now people watching reruns won't know which one called it quits. Do you honestly think people who discover the show in the future are all going to research the ins and outs of it? Some of them will just watch it and enjoy it. And honestly, if he hadn't, I think Johnny might have.

And honestly, if he hadn't, I think Johnny might have. I go back and forth on Johnny. I think that depending on what Kaley wanted to do, he may have given one more extension/renewal of a shorter time period that their usual 3 years. I really think if Kaley wanted to do 1 or 2 more seasons, he would have gone along.

So true. But SRAM was correct as well. If nothing else, Jim is the person who started the end of TBBT! He was probably just minutes before Johnny! You have your rose colored glasses on, I’m not being mean or a Parsons hater. I’m just stating a fact. If you look on the internet, you can find stories about every popular past show and there will always be a part or even a whole story itself about why it ended. TBBT’s story will not have our reasons, on this forum, for why the show should have ended or why we thought it was time, the story will say Parsons was done with playing Sheldon and Lorre wouldn’t do the show without him, Parsons killed TBBT, period. Had the show been shut down prematurely this might have been true. Given TBBT has 12 seasons and not 6 or 7 I doubt reasonable people will be be looking for the reason it ended. I really have to disagree and I will use “Friends” as an example, google why “Friends” ended and you will find a lot of stuff. I feel TBBT was better than “Friends” so I think it is a very reasonable assumption that there will be even more discussion on that subject. Heck if you google “ why TBBT ended” on google now you can find blame already being placed on Parsons by some.

He is right though, the show has exhausted most narratives. I think it is ending at the right time.

It’s unfortunate there is a perception of “heat”. Is that heat anywhere near making anything boil? I suspect it’s localised. They got the spin-off up and running. I’d say they ran a successful venture to a successful end and they can be proud of themselves, despite my disappointments. But things have lifecycles and this thing ran a good race - an exceptional one.
Die Zimtzicke Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 (edited) Jim loves Broadway. I think he can go back there and be happy and successful. He's got enough money to live on for the rest of his life if he doesn't get crazy with it anyway. And I don't see what his being gay has to do with future work. It didn't matter for TBBT, it didn't matter for The Muppet Movie, for goodness sake, and in any decent casting situation in this day and age it shouldn't either. It's called acting for a reason. Besides, he's probably made more money doing commercials than some actors have made on TV shows. Besides, he's probably made more money doing commercials than some actors have made on TV shows. It's not just that, he has his own company to produce whatever he wants. Even in the unlikely case that nobody wanted to cast him in anything ever again (which in itself is of course nonsense) he can just cast himself in whatever story he feels like playing or he'll work more behind the scene in general. He really can do whatever he wants at this point.
