Jonny Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I used to think the guidance system project was one of the most boring and creatively unimaginative story arcs the show ever did. I could never really get into it, was bored to death. But then the Nobel project came along... Even as a someone who enjoys Shamy more than any other couple on this show and it’s by a country mile I just can’t get interested in this story. If this were not the final season, the super asymmetry plot may have had a chance to develop a bit more naturally without the pressure to give Sheldon & Amy a closing story line with a big win either professionally or emotionally/relationship centered. It is a shame that the most recent renewal did not have a “close the door” facet in which all knew things were going to end in two seasons and not have to rush to tie things up after having written c amount of episodes. (Despite TPTB bragging point of being able to wrap things up quickly!).

I am so bored of this story and so much that is related to it is just too far off from the way things work IRL and IMO too fairytaley that it feels like a Disney/Nickelodeon show. I would rather see Shamy go to a flag convention and/or create an FwF Twitter/Instagram account*... *Dang it, now I'll have to find a way to integrate that into my fic Edited March 29, 2019 by bfm

(Despite TPTB bragging point of being able to wrap things up quickly!). I would 100% agree it feels too rushed and that probably also has led to a lot of inaccuracies in the story. IMO they should have developed this arc probably back in season 10. Hell maybe they should have stuck with the previous project they were working on and fleshed it out? Of course you would have lost those scenes at the wedding, truth be told I thought they weren’t that good anyway. I guess it might have resulted in no Nobel story (the other project) but there are other awards out there. It just feels not fleshed out enough, a story so you can bring back guest stars repeatedly and just boring. I would take Shamy going to a flag convention over seeing more of this. Yeah I think going this big actually hurt the story because it makes it both too far from IRL and fairytaley. They could have had the paper published in a top journal e.g. Science or some fictional equivalent, have them win other awards (maybe fictional) and gain respect from other scientists, no need for a Nobel nomination. There has always been a few things in TBBT-land that were thought of as "have to be's". I may be talking out of my hat (and maybe some or all of them will not ending up happening...). One was meeting Howard's father. That seems to be on the extreme back burner, but is the sort of thing that can be done as a quick "B" or even "C" plotline. Another is of course the "smart and beautiful babies". That is seemingly not going anywhere, but you never know what that last episode; that last minute of the series will bring. Finally, it has always seemed to me that Sheldon would, in the end, receive the Nobel Prize. It has been the thing he has pointed to the most. Although, not everything happens the way you think or hope they will. My favorite series ender ever was The Wonder Years. In a sort of The World According to Garp (the book, not the movie) way, we found out the future of all involved and it DID NOT include a romantic "happily ever after" for Kevin Arnold and Winnie Cooper. But in the case of Kevin and Winnie, sometimes you don't end up with your grade school/high school sweetheart. For TWY, it worked. We will see what happens here.... Heck, they could have even let them have a breakthrough on their wedding and all that jazz. But I think part of the reason why the project has been scrapped is that they only have Saltzberg as their science consultant and not a proper neuroscientist. (As much as I love Mayim her job isn't to check the scripts and she's been out of academia for a while now so I think they should have gotten someone from that field to fill that role.) So in the end they refer to him to come up with something and of course he's picking something from his field (no matter if it makes sense in the grand scheme of things). I am not against Sheldon getting a Nobel prize per se, I just think it shouldn't have happened now. They could have had people saying that with more work in the following years Sheldon(/Sheldon and Amy) has good chances of getting a Nobel. As for Howard's dad, as opposed to many here, I never expeted that. I think they just wrote the abandoning father as part of the character's history and never really had an interest in bringing him in. Chrismo Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Haven’t been on in awhile. Have a few comments: 1. Am I the only who could careless about the multi-cam record?I agree with 3kull about the quality of the show. Would have put more concern about the writing than patting themselves on the back. 2. I will go with April assessment of Saltzburg but I would question why they couldn’t go find, or afford, another consultant with a neuroscience background. Again Prady and Co. too busy patting themselves on the back. 3.As most others have pointed out this assymetry storyline has to end. I personally had little interest to begin with. It’s now moved to no interest. It’s taking up time for a show that’s about to end. Sad if you think about it.

This is going to sound awful, but I really have no care whether Sheldon wins a Nobel or not. He is not why I am here and he repeatedly detracts from those who do keep me here. I just feel that that is what TPTB had in store as to where his story would go......
