What I'd hate at this stage is to discover Mrs Wolowitz had intercepted letters meant for Howard and foiled appointments to see him after he came out of prison.

That would indeed be bad to learn. But, since her death, he's still had time to meet with Howard and set things right!

Totally agree. They could have done this so many other ways and had Sheldon and Amy work together and be successful as a team.

Yes, I think there is definitely more there than Howard knows. I think it could be done well. I just don't trust these writers to do it. That said, I'm still focusing on the fact that we have no idea what the issue was at all. Howard's mother could have well told him to leave and not come back but not have told Howard that, that Howard would be better off without  him. We had that happen in a branch of my own family. The kids didn't know until they were in their 20's that Mom actually threw Dad out.

Edited to add...one of the saddest things you can ever see is a kid who grew up hating one of their parents because they only got one side of the story.

I hope Howard gets an answer, because I can totally emphasize with him.  Here's why: my Dad left when I was an infant in the 70s, never be heard from again; no child support was awarded either.  Mom changed my last name from his to her maiden name when I was 4.  I never even got so much as a card from him growing up.

Fast forward to 2001.  I Googled my Dad and found his address.  My plan was to drive up there, pound on his door, and demand an answer so that I could close that chapter of my life before I got married the next year.  I chickened out and 2 years later he died.

When I contacted his church, I found out that no one (not even his widow) knew he had a child.  I did have a phone conversation with the widow prior to the Memorial Service, which I attended with my Mom and Husband.  She wasn't very kind to me on the phone, but she did give me the medical information I needed.  After the service, she walked up to me (I had not introduced myself before the Service, I just sat in the back being as inconspicuous as possible) and said "Are you Carmen?  If so, I am so sorry for what I said to you on the phone".  I do resemble my Dad, and got some stares during the Service.  I never spoke to her again, nor did I contest the Estate.  I figured I managed (albeit in a struggling manner) without his help during his life, I could manage without it after his death.  Furthermore, I felt like the widow had already received a punch in the gut finding out about me, why punish her for something he did?

My Mom passed in 2010, and I have discovered some things about their marriage I didn't know.  My greatest regret in life is that I didn't get the answers from the them about everything before they passed.  I sobbed during the episode about the letter from Howard's Dad because it hit so close to home.  I hope Howard gets his answers, even if he doesn't realize he needs them.

It seems to me the story about Howard’s father should be left as is. If the father as a big of jerk as it may appear to be it would be a downer for the show as it comes to an end. If the father has a reason for how he acted it could question if Howard’s mother told Howard the entire truth. Whatever happened happened and if the truth came out does it makes things any better for Howard. Of course the other 6 know about the letter and if he wants to know something he could ask

We talk a lot about how we have personal connections to this show and characters ( my marriage is Lenny, I’m part Sheldon part Leonard in general life and my mother relationship is part Howard) but not so much about the tragic parts. I feel for you, Carmen. That episode touched me but watching it in your situation must have been tough. Thanks for sharing a little part of your world.

WonderCon in Anaheim, CA today.  TBBT Writers Panel is from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm (PDT).  Wil Wheaton will be the moderator.

Maybe we'll get some gossip about the end of the show.

I seriously doubt they reveal anything major!

Maybe! But, was it a top ten show due to the writers or did the cast take their mediocre scripts and make them special?

If they go hunting new jobs, which they probably already have, I don't think the cast will be taken much into consideration at all. I just don't think tha'ts how someone looking to hire a writer thinks. I could be wrong, but I think they look at how your past shows did. And most of these people are known in the industry anyway. We'll see.

If you say so. I, myself don't know who's known in the industry.

Several of them are already working on other shows,  Chuck tends to spread his crew across multiple shows,

The same people worked on TBBT and 2 and 1/2 Men at the same time.  Several of the BBT writers/producers are also working on Young Sheldon while working on TBBT.

I don't think so...

I'm well aware it's a sitcom, the problem is the sitcom forgot what it's done for the last 11 years for the Nobel plot.

Actually, the comment by Molaro about how they will now never give Penny her maiden name, seemed kinda big.

And, to comment on the comments  about how poor the writers have been, Maria Ferrari signed a deal with Warner Brothers to develop new shows.  Warner Brothers seems to think highly of her.

We've hear that they never plan on telling her maiden name before. I was surprised that Amy being friends was Penny was considered a turning point

Reveals the depth of questioning that occurs at these things that Penny’s surname is still considered worth discussing[emoji849]

Geez it would be fun to organise a BBTForumCon panel online and have the writers get the chance to be grilled with real deep questions by us rather than the cliched, well worn, safe, predictable drivel that most of these Con Panels deliver.[emoji12]

I didn’t either, but I don’t remember them saying they would never reveal it. They were always coy about it before.

Penny or Amy? Had to be Amy since Penny's turning point, in my opinion, was when she met Leonard!

We do know her last name is now and going forward is Hofstadter!

Does anybody remember this is a sitcom, not a documentary or a reality show?

Well, if one thought wasn’t a fiction before then they are certainly hammering home that point now.

Sidebar: reality shows are plotted too. Lots of creative licence in editing and editorial.

From The Hollywood Reporter

'The Big Bang Theory' Writers on the Mystery They're Leaving Unsolved

The Big Bang Theory will wrap up its 12-season run on Thursday, May 16, but the writers are just starting to process that the end is near.

“In a lucky way, we knew it was the final season pretty early … it gave us a lot of time to talk about where we wanted to leave these characters,” executive producer Steve Holland said Saturday during the show’s WonderCon panel, moderated by frequent guest star Wil Wheaton. “That [work] was able to push some of [the emotion] off. Now we’re getting closer and closer and it’s [hitting us that it's] the last time we’re going to do this or that.”

They said that at comicon years ago. Their aim was to turn Amy into more of a social being under Penny's wing. Sounds rather as if they didn't say anything new. I hope fans around the world start organising their own BigBangathon conventions the way they did with Dr Who. I don't want the show to be just another fond memory of a classic.

Absolutely dead on right.  Could not believe that someone would ask about Penny's maiden name.....again  Who cares at this point

I guess if your not a long term hardcore fan, most casuals would want to know Penny's last name.

Add me to the list of wanting to see Howards Father. They gave it so many story points in The Closet Reconfiguration in Season 6. Be interesting to see him return. And see Simon delve into that. Heading into the final stretch. I am gathering too the Elevator well be fixed in the Final. I Guess its key not to over expose elements in shows. If they are Catchphrases or Gags. Hence why we have not heard Sheldon say "Bazinga!". Since Season 5 The Stag Convergence.

But I Can see The Elevator being fixed in the Tag. I have proposed to in the past, they all go into it as they are leaving the Apt Units for the final time. And it breaks down LOL. Could be a real humerous way to end the show. I know when Friends ended it was somber and sad. But then they made a reference to Central Perk. And it was light hearted the tone. I think they could have a few flash forwards afterwards I am expecting.
