I feel exactly this way about The Good Doctor. I love the show but would the doctors be with their patients all the time doing the nursing and counseling? No. But I still love it. I have a son with autism and Freddie Highmore has obviously done his research on that.

There's a real doctor on You Tube that reviews medical shows, Dr. Mike.  He's really good.

Here's the link to his review of The good Doctor...

Again, it's a sitcom. A sitcom that's ending this year. When Super Asymmetry started, they didn't know that this was the last season so you have to suspend belief and see that time is relative to the story.

If they didn't know, they had a jolly good idea. They can't make excuses. Since this was the last season of the contract they had no reason to suppose it wasn't the last one. There had to be some reason why, during season ten, they were only given two more seasons instead of the three they were given during season seven. One can speculate about that reason until the cows come home. It could well be that the team didn't feel like committing themselves to a contract longer than two years, or even that it wasn't offered.

When watching, listening to, or reading fiction one suspends disbelief, by the way.

I am pretty certain TPTB were aware it was the final season before they wrote this storyline halfway through Season 12. The writers are lazy, but not that lazy.

IT just feels like an half assed way to get Sheldon the Nobel Prize. Be damn to accuracy. The Science around the Super Assymtery plot is fundamentally flawed. And yeah you can preach all you want that it is a sitcom. But a sitcom as unique as this, where the Science has always been paramount to its success. I just find it very flimsy.

How is someone not a long term fan if they don't care about a characters last name? This makes zero sense to me...let there be some mystery for heavens sake. I personally like not knowing.

I never said anyone was not a long term fan. I was simply pointing out some casuals who have not been following the show as long as some if you in this forum. Maybe interested in stuff like this. Fine you want to maintain the mystery. But can you spare me with the antsy emojis. Their are alot of fans of the show or any show really. Who are intrigued by long running gags. And want some closure on it. I Think some fans are entitled to that.

How real the science is has never been a factor of my enjoyment of the show. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters first and foremost. I have to think their are a lot of fans like myself who would never try to understand the science or the process of winning a Nobel Prize or even how universities work if you are employed at one doing research.

I find the science and the whole process (speed at which it's developing in particular) far fetched, I guess it would bug me even more if I worked in Sciences or around that profession.

To me it's boring and unfunny, so yeah the show is indeed a SituationalCOMEDY, but where are the laughs? All I see are two annoyingly irritating guest star characters who keep coming back. Did I find it funny when Amy lost a major project, treated with such disrespect and as far as we know never got it back because of her husband and a university president? No, I bloody well didn't!

I look at this final season of a beloved sitcom and sit there thinking is this the best you can do, really?

Well said!
Given this is the last season, I'm joining Penny's fatalistic sarcasm.

I agree there's not always a lot to laugh at. I haven't laughed much this season at all. 'They'd better be the same two babies' is the only line I found funny in the most recent episode. 'Or Penny if it's a girl' made me smile in the one before that.

So many of the situations in TBBT  aren't particularly funny anyway. I watch the way  I used to watch serials before they were called soap operas - I want to find out what's happening to the characters. What's funny about getting offered a better job, querying a mother's attitude to her child, dashing the hopes of an infertile couple, not to mention ongoing cut-throat unpleasantness in academe, I  just can't see.

Agreed. There's been a few laughs and a few giggles. Still haven't seen the going out with a bang that we were promised!

This is all about giving the Sheldon character a big win going out. Either in his career with the Nobel or in his relationship (or both) by showing how nice he is to Amy by insisting on her inclusion (along with the fact of working with her).

Why not he deserves a big win. He has worked hard to achieve his goal. It is all he has ever wanted.

I was going to respond to your earlier Quote on this one, but it disappeared.....There is no doubt that Sheldon deserves a "big win".  My only issue is the way they are going about it in the Nobel area.  Each Nobel Prize is beyond amazing and represents the height of each discipline in which it is awarded.  The way they have written it here sort of bastardizes the prestige in which the award is held.  Again, Sheldon (and Amy) should have a win going out.  My problem is with the way they are doing so.  Nothing against Sheldon or not wanting him to win.  Nothing on my side saying that Leonard (or any other character) deserves a better ending than Sheldon (or any other character).  A better angle would be a flash forward with Sheldon (and Amy) becoming a Nobel Laureate(s) in the future.

That's it.  Mini-rant over.

The end of my feeling sorry for sheldon and thinking he doesn't deserve anything was when tried taking credit for Leonards idea

Addition here.....In my view rushing through the process of awarding a Nobel Prize, perhaps the most prestigeous award in the world, does detract and take away from that prize.  Perhaps it would be better for Sheldon to aspire to a fictional award:  "The Rufus T. Firefly Prize in Theoretical Physics" or "The Captain Jeffrey T. Spaulding Prize for Intelligent Thinking in Physics."....

Exactly how does it "detract and take away" from the Real Nobel? It doesn't make actual winners less prestigious, it may direct kids into science that may have not gone in that direction, it doesn't take away any prize money from past, present or future winners. The two fake awards you mention (or any fake one) means nothing. It could never aspire a gifted student to strive for. Sheldon (et al) winning a Nobel may.

Lennie may yet produce winning work with his laser thingy. We have a few weeks to go yet.

Leonard's big win is Penny. Penny's big win is Leonard. Kids are "The Prophecy"s big win.

Was that the n-dimensional super fluid  theory that won them the prize ? It was Penny who gave Leonard the idea he passed to Sheldon. It was an accident that Sheldon's was the name in the first journal and he was bothered by it. Leonard was credited in the others when they came out. Sheldon strikes me as being too arrogant to claim someone else's work. He even thanked Ramona for nagging him through the equation in her first episode and  later when Sheldon was feted for his own work when it was based on a mistake he didn't like it.

There is a lack of humor...won't argue with that!

I don't think there is a child prophecy...lust line at most.

Also, when he tried to sabotage his own wife's research just to have her work with him.  It really shows that Sheldon only cares about himself and never gives any credit or support to his "best" friend Leonard or anyone else.

Actually he had a chance to correct the author of the story that was written but sheldon decided he deserved all the credit

Of course there is no "real" Nobel consideration for Super Asymmetry.  Just as there is no real Sheldon.  No real Leonard.  The building at 2311 North Los Robles is not an apartment building.  Dr. Seibert is not the president of Cal Tech.  It is all fake.  However, that does not mean we can't (to some folk's view, ridiculously) debate the merits, positives and negatives (in each poster's view) about things that are being presented.  Since it is all fake and make believe, why do we come here to post anything at all?.....

He did not try to sabotage Amy's research ! That's not fair. Granted the interference was down to his arrogance. He believed he was doing a favour to them both by getting her freed up from what she was doing. He was surprised when she didn't like it and went with her to see Siebert.

For all his verbal belittling of others, when there has been credit due for real work, Sheldon has shared it. His annoyance at Leslie Winkle's correcting of his equation came from what he stated was the possibility of his having to share the Nobel with her. He refused to put Ramona's or Kripke's name on the titles of his papers because their contributions weren't actually physics. It's Koothrapalli who's guilty of not giving credit to Penny. When he and Sheldon were messing about over naming the asteroid, it was Sheldon's discovery anyway.

Nearly. That reporter was only interested in his name as the head of the department. When they checked the other publications online Leonard's name was in them.

So Leonard and Penny are married  and that should just be enough for them(no prizes or babies whatsoever). Sheldon and Amy are also married but thats not enough, they should also have a Nobel prize and some babies.

I don't know. Perhaps. I'm sure  many Nobel laureates have friends and neighbours. Next time I meet the happily-married winner-of-other-awards neighbour of a Nobel nominee, I'll ask him if he thinks so.
