Shows Casting is important. Same with Friends Jennifer Anniston was tapped to play Monica. Johnny said he read Sheldons part. But after Jim read Sheldon, he knew he would be perfect. And related to the Leonard character more, as he felt he would face more adversity.

As long as we are speculating- I know they said they wouldn’t go on without the big 3 but-  But, did anyone else find it curious that McCauley Culkin suddenly announced he had turned down a major role on TBBT 3 times , very very  shortly after the cancellation announcement.  It just seems likely to me that the last time could have been to replace Jim (not necessarily as Sheldon.)

Nope. show ending was big news at the time...all sorts of random articles appear during these things. Also replacing Jim Parsons as Sheldon would have been impossible.

Chuck and Bill faxed Johnny a few pages of what they had written wanting to know if he might play the Sheldon character.  Johnny gravitated toward the Leonard character and then they began auditions to fill the Sheldon part, that's when they found Jim.  Jim and Johnny tested together and then they knew that they had the right pair.

Johnny wanted to play Leonard from day one.

Johnny is perfect as Leonard. Jim is perfect as Sheldon. I think everyone was perfectly cast. In my humble opinion I can't see  macaulay culkin playing any of the characters. I love all the cast. Even Kripke, Stuart and of course Wil...

I agree. I wonder if they had asked MC after the first pilot--the one that was unacceptable, since the first one didn't have any friends besides the 2 girls. . Maybe MC would have been Howard or Raj. Nothing against MC but I feel the cast was chosen perfectly, too

I still find it interesting that no one associated with the show ever remarked in any way about his claim.

I straight up forgot Denise existed, but I'm inclined to fault the show instead of the mandatory hiatus.

A Lenny sitcom would not have enough content to fill even one episode, they were your classic "will they/won't they" but even these dumber than rock writers knew that they couldn't fly that all the way up to double digit seasons.

Without some 3rd party to be jealous of, Leonard and Penny are just straight up tapped out.....and that might be a problem with how simple of characters they are. They have to be stuck in the same roles and they have to live in this permanent happy ending. A divorce would be the best growth available for Leonard and Penny as characters but you would all raise torches over that.

Shamy actually had an arc of personal development and never needed to rely on love triangles or will they/won't they nonsense

Huh. Interesting. I never thought about that... perhaps he was never really in the running anyway?

I believe they're not saying Lenny is boring but just that there's no more material to be had for them. That happens a lot in shows, couples are on again off again then when they finally marry writers don't know what to do with them.

I like the idea of  a Lenny spinoff. They probably would changed the Leonard and PEnny a bit if that happens especially if they want it to alst.  I think there enough you could do there. Problem is the writers have put too much focus on Shamy the last couple seasons.

I think Howardette spinoff would be interesting but don't know if that would last.  Simon and Melissa have great chemistry

Sitcoms sometimes have break out characters.  Sheldon was that and more.  The writers and Jim made magic happen for Sheldon.

It doesn't take anything away from any of the other characters.  It just happens sometimes.

I know I do
We all like it for different reasons. Since they seemed to have divided the group into lenny , shamy then howardette with raj and i can't think of the name of comic book store owner it's not as funny as it used to be

the Stuart dude owns the store. I'm not sure why they added him--nothing against him but we already have such limited time with the original cast. He's like another Raj to annoy Howard and Bernie

They added him because the shows  tank is on empty.

I like Stuart. He was a terrific recurring character and my recollection is that he became the “8th character” when the writers decided Raj needed a friend when Howard and Bernie got married and we had that weird story arc when Raj and Stuart became pathetic males who couldn’t talk to people and became a weak knockoff of the Howard and Raj S1-3 friendship. Then they gave Raj Emily and he became the annoying tenant/babysitter/Raj fill in/pathetic loser. In all of this he became a sad character which they are only rectifying now with the successful comic book shop/Denise relationship. Sadly he’s been developed more than Raj in some ways.

Love Stuart! I guess I like people who are slightly different? I love him and Denise together. Who accidentally dyes themselve orange before  a big date? Besides me? I think he is funny.

I might be interested in a Howardette spin-off...
