There are so many ancillary characters we have come to love/hate/enjoy to see.  That we may have seen the last of Wil Wheaton, Professor Protron/Arthur Jefferies, Mr. & Mrs. Fowler, Raj's parents...it is all a little bit sad and heart breaking.  How wonderful is it, btw, that we have been treated to Joshua Malina as President Siebert in several episodes this season?? Mayim just posted something on her Gronk Nation blog regarding cleaning out her dressing room.  Still 34 days to go.  I'm not sure how I'm going to handle it....

It's really only 18 days. The last taping is the 30th.

In my recent experience, the ending of a beloved show sinks in a few days later*. It's hard to get that there really won't be any new episodes (and songs, in my case).

*The strongest "trigger" for that, by the way, was a list ranking all the songs of the show. 'Cause now you can rate them all. 'Cause there won't be any more. Excuse me while I go cry in the corner 😭

Perhaps even less. Since the finale is to be taped in advance it may be all over for them at some point before the 30th.

And we're going to get Denise this week. I wonder if she and Stuart have succeeded in generating the first of the 'replacement' population ? It will be amazing if Stuart is the next one to be a dad and we have two weddings before the series is over.

It would be equally "amazing" if Leonard got the Nobel Prize instead of......

Without some 3rd party to be jealous of, Leonard and Penny are just straight up tapped out.....and that might be a problem with how simple of characters they are. They have to be stuck in the same roles and they have to live in this permanent happy ending. A divorce would be the best growth available for Leonard and Penny as characters but you would all raise torches over that.

Shamy actually had an arc of personal development and never needed to rely on love triangles or will they/won't they nonsense

You sure you've been watching them? L & P (particularly P, IMO) are the deepest characters in the show by far. This is due to the acting more than the writing, I believe. Their story is fairly simple but KC and JG give the smallest incidents depth. Penny is a truly loveable character.

Shamy on the other hand have no depth at all. While their story may be complicated, none of it really means anything  because Amy, while an excellent supporting character, has no inner life.

He's the reason I got into watching at the beginning. He was unique as a character. Nerds, sex bomb air-headed blondes, foreign best friends, sleazy heart of gold guys...that has all been done over and over and over. Only Sheldon was something different.

Sheldon is indeed a great comic creation, but the point of the characters is not whether they are an original type but how the realise that type. Penny is a fully-realised deep and fascinating sex bomb (not so) airheaded blonde. KC's star quality made Penny far more than any cliche. IMO KC is just as much a breakout as JP, and sadly she's been wasted in TBBT for several seasons. Seems the programme makers can't recognise star quality when i9t's staring them in the face.

I'm a huge Lenny fan, but I think Sheldon and Amy have a different sort of relationship and depth.  And to Amy's inner life, that is a work in progress.  She spent her early life as an outsider and with certain parental issues (as many of the others in the cast, btw) that stunted her growth socially.  I've spent a lot of time trumpeting Leonard and Penny over all others (and still feel that way), but there is much to see in the others that is below the surface.  There is much "there" in all of the couples: Leonard and Penny, Sheldon and Amy, Howard and Bernadette, Stuart and Denise.  Even Raj and Anu....

As much as it will destroy me at not having new L & P stories, I will also miss all of the other characters....#IAmReallyNotTakingThisEndingWell...

Indeed it would. Unless his announcement that nothing happened in physics was a cover for some secret work he's been on for a year or two. Mayim did tell us to watch out for something unexpected.

I just don't see it...but people like different things. To me, she is the pretty sex bomb cliche. Much better in earlier seasons with Sheldon.

I think she and Sheldon are expecting...that is the big surprise I think.

Everybody seems to expect an exciting, upbeat finale. Maybe so (in which case Penny's birthday would be good) but is that the usual arrangement? I realise that I can't remember the final eps of Cheers or Frasier or Friends. On the other hand, some British and Irish sitcoms I do remember. Drop the Dead Donkey  was one of the funniest ever, IMO. Set in a TV news company, it ended with the parent company closing it down. The characters as I remember mostly had to take demeaning jobs either outside TV or on low-grade chatshows, while the company's director had a breakdown. Ballykissangel ended with the heroine (played by Dervla Kirwan) electrocuted while trying to fix the power supply in her pub (I gather a show of the same name staggered on with mnone of the main characters). Goodnight Sweetheart ended with the time-travelling hero trapped 50 years in the past. None particularly upbeat.

She was good playing at being nanny/granny/big sister to Sheldon  - and a little to Raj  - as she grew up. I felt sometimes it was meant to distract her from facing other responsibilities. She feels insecure as she morphs from being a dolly bird to ... what ?  After Sheldon got engaged she shed that caretaker role but they didn't give her another one, which was a pity.

Weigh in all you like. We've not seen enough of Penny's success.

Thanks for a clarification...🙂

We are sometimes satisfied with the little bit that the fun-scribblers have offered us over the last few years regarding Penny's development.
