No, it means this is just not a question they will most likely ever answer. Truth to be told: I don't even think they have an answer for that. She's Penny Hofstadter now and that's all you get.

How about they just confirm that Penny (and the rest of her family) don't have a real surname at all, and be done with it? It's like people from certain Asian countries who are monomymous (like Sukarno and Suharto, the first two presidents of Indonesia), even those who only have patronymics and have to be referred to by their first/given names.

I don't get it either, why some people are stuck on her maiden name. She's married now so her last name is Hofstadler

Could be Penny Smith---Penny Hornswallow---or Penny Lumpytapiocahead

or whatever--Does it matter?

Nope. Nobody knows her maiden name and that's it. I guess you just gotta deal with it. No confirmation either way.

This is starting to feel like something I could get in trouble over: a question that will remain unsolved literally forever. Truth is, I was hoping that Penny's maiden-surname will indeed be revealed in the last episode, but boy, was I wrong. I guess a revelation like this will have to wait until a Will & Grace-style revival of TBBT airs down the line. Does this mean the finale will be open-ended?

I stopped hoping that Penny's last name would be revealed when I heard repeatedly that they had no plans to do it. I doubt if the finale would be totally open ended.

I never cared at all what her last name was.

It really doesn't matter.

From USA Today

How lovable 'Big Bang Theory' pals matured (well, not always) over the show's 12 seasons

The long-running success of CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” might be explained as the Sitcom Theory of Evolution: survival of the ever-so-gradually maturing.

“The characters grew. It expanded the relationships and what the characters were capable of doing,” co-creator Chuck Lorre says of the top-rated comedy, which features a visit from Christine Baranski as Leonard's domineering mother in Thursday's episode (8 EDT/PDT).

A quartet of socially awkward scientist buddies – Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj – and their ingenue neighbor, Penny, embraced adulthood in their own ways and, joined by Amy and Bernadette, found new friendships, marriages and careers over 12 seasons and 279 episodes. The one-hour series finale airs May 16.

“When the show began, Sheldon couldn’t touch people," but now he's married, Lorre says of Jim Parsons’ intellectually transcendent and socially obtuse physicist. Simon Helberg’s Howard “was this obnoxious, delusional playboy," but "he ends up as a devoted husband and father.”

The actors offer their thoughts on how their alter egos have evolved:

I do agree with the article about the development and growth of the characters over the past 12 years. We will all continue to speculate about the series finale.

But, from what I have read from reports and few spoilers is that the finale is based on each characters journey into the future. I don't expect anything major to come up. As it has been said there are a few revelations and surprises to come.

For the next episode, I get the feeling Leonard's mum will want more grandchildren. And she is visiting to put some pressure on Leonard to have kids even though Penny is against it. Also, from snippets Raj could be flying out to see Anu. And I think Stuart will move out from the Woolowitz household (finally) lol. Stuart moves in with Denise etc.

This would tie into the final 2 episodes where numerous plot lines could focus on:

Sheldon/Amy - Could finally get the Nobel or maybe not???, a pregnancy instead

Howard/Bernadette - nothing can really be added to their storyline, promotion perhaps? I doubt were going to meet Howards Dad at this stage.

Raj - I am dissapointed that his plot line has been neglected with Anu. Maybe they move away together or break up. Raj moves back to India etc.

Lenny/Penny - Could be about moving on promotion. Or they get pregnant or maybe not. She might not be able to have kids so decide to adopt.

I would be surprised if there wasn't some sort of elavator gag.

1000 from now years all their descendants are seen running for their lives as a supergiant  asteroid is hurtling at fast speed towards earth when a "big bang" is heard as the screen goes to black...

Please don;t take my last  seriously.  But if you watch the video you will get it

But in all serious sounds like a possibly flash forward scene

What maiden name do you wish Penny had? My advise, just use that as the maiden name. It will be as good as any....

The important part is her married last name.

That's kind of revealing actually. Seems like we won't get a Raj wedding. I like this talk about his romantic situation remaining kind of open-ended/vouge, I think that would be realistic, as we haven't seen terrific potential with Anu or anybody else for that matter. The character's life will go on, the show ending doesn't mean he should suddenly be married. I just hope there's a suggestion of potential positive developments for him, that'd be enough for me.

Yeah, but she didn't mesh with Penny, thanks to Raj's inability to keep his mouth shut!

He treated her badly. They were on/off when he didn't want to be alone and then he two-timed her when he wanted to keep his options open. I was disappointed they made him such a jerk. They could have let him grow up and stabilise enough to keep a girlfriend, like they did with the others.

'Big Bang Theory' Cast Shares Their Favorite Moments as They Say Goodbye to Iconic Series (Exclusive)

The Big Bang Theory's final episode is almost here.

The iconic CBS comedy will come to a close on May 16, and while the cast isn't spilling details on how the series is wrapping up, they've put quite a bit of thought into how they'll say goodbye.

The fact she was creepy as hell is why I loved Emily hahaha.

Stockholme Syndrome is the official name of the Series Final huh? Well the clinical definition is "A Condition which causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a surivival strategy during captivity". I knew it Stephanie has been in Sheldon's Wardrobe this whole time ..giphy.gif

In all seriounsess probably something to do with the Nobel Prize Story Arch. All, they all die and enter 'The Good Place'.

And yeah I Don't see the big deal with Penny's last name. Her last name is Hofstadter. I mean it could be Penny Johnson... Oh wait. I Think what is more important, is if they have a kid together.

Emily just didn't fit with the rest of the characters at all. She was a horrible choice from the start.

What if I said that I'm not going to deal with it?

Anyway, you know what? We should have gone to the old Penny character/surname threads and discussed it right there. If it makes you feel any better, I don't understand why the show's writers created such a mystery in the first place. I wish Kaley had waited until after the finale to make the comments about this non-revelation. If you do not want to discuss this any further, I'm sorry I ever thought about Penny's maiden surname and what it could possibly be, I'm sorry I ever hoped for its eventual revelation, and I'm sorry I ever commented on it.

Every show has it running gags and for The Big Bang Theory never revealing Penny surname is one of them.  I am glad they are not going to reveal her maiden name  in the finale. It Hofstadter now and then ll that matters.
