And if he had to be persuaded to re-sign their last contract it was probably due to him wanting better storylines for Penny and Leonard.

In my opinion, that is why he would make that decision. Lenny wasn't getting better story lines. Just continuing to support Shamy. It was a waste of the remaining cast to work a whole week for 2 mins screen time. She persuaded him once, but probably not the second time.

I was referring to Shell saying they were hurt.

He shouldn't get blamed. But his decision did spur Chuck Lorre's reaction. Who knows, if he didn't do it, Johnny might have made that decision instead. I've read somewhere he had to be talked into the last deal.

I've never been in showbiz but I can see how there are many areas of it which involve being part of a team in which all depend on one another. They  surely are always prepared for the fact that the time is going to come when one of them will be the first to say he or she can't carry on. Over a lifetime of working it must be something they get used to. It's a precarious profession. They can't be making their career decisions based all the time on what other people might want. Also, it's only natural that over the years they'll talk about it : Chuck Lorre went as far as announcing to the public what he'd do when any of the main cast decided to move on.

True, they had 12 years waiting and preparing for that eventuality.

My thoughts on this topic: Saying that Johnny would have ended things if Jim hadn't I think is problematical. Johnny would have continued if Kaley wanted to, not because of some affection for her but because he knew leaving would break up Penny and Leonard in some way and he did not want their story to end like that. And if he had to be persuaded to re-sign their last contract it was probably due to him wanting better storylines for Penny and Leonard.

I think Kaley is doing the best out of all of them. She certainly seems in demand after BBT ended and her production company is taking off and she has done many photoshoots, endorsements, and commercials. Johnny and now Mayim have production companies as well but I have not heard of anything on the horizon for them. Jim is doing well in  NY theater, however Melissa, Simon and Kunal have not heard any news on them as yet.

Did you read some where that this is true? Or is it guessing?

Jim is doing just fine now--nominated for a Peoples Choice award,  still does his Intel commercials, Just finished filming a movie, is suppose to star in a new series by Ryan Murphy, is suppose to star in Michael Ausiello's book/movie, is the voice in YS and his show, 'Special' is doing great  along with other prospects in the works from his production company

and by the way, he is not performing right now in theatre, he has too much else going on

I really don't see why. The script could have been exactly the same in every episode whoever was or wasn't leaving. As it happened, they all left and nobody broke up. On the contrary, all the marriages were as strong as ever and even Stuart had something to look forward to after impressing Denise at the Shamy wedding.

They all had a year of their contract to go when the decision to end was made. Good timing.

Well interesting. Metro ran a poll asking people if The Big Bang Theory had a spin-off. Who would you like it to be Centred around. Results

Leonard and Penny 41%

Raj 21%

Sheldon and Amy 14%

Howard and Bernadette 14%

Stuart 8%

Will Wheaton 2%

Not saying I want it to happen. But a Leonard and Penny spin-off prob has the most credibility. Two of the main characters. Theirs a built in audience of course. Their are probably a lot of unanswered questions as well about Penny’s pregnancy. I guess if we were looking at a premise. Its 5 years in the future and LP are starting their new life moving to Nebraska. And maybe Penny family including Katy Seagal and Actor names escaping me who played Wyatt. We’ll be part of the show. Look just experimenting lol.

Jim is not doing theatre right now. He is filming for Ryan Murphy's movie and he  got Emmy nominations for his Netflix show (Special) he produced. Maybe he will focus on acting and/or production. His broadway play did win a Tony award recently so hopefully Jim will continue theatre too in future (and have some chance of winning one himself someday).

Think your premise is credible.  Keith Carradine played Penny's father Wyatt

As long as someone different plays her brother!

Kaley would talked him into one more signing up. After that, he was done. Just my opinion.

I totally disagree. They are friends but they do not run each other's business lives. Johnny is in a new relationship with a new baby. If there is any time to take some time to yourself it's when you are going to have a new baby on your hands.

As far as I'm concerned, their careers have already been injured

If the big three manage it well they have enough money to live on for the rest of their lives, and live quite well. None of them has to work at all if they don't want to.

But it had been made clear to everyone that if ANY of the big three left the show was done. So Johnny leaving would have done the exact same thing Jim leaving did, except Johnny would have taken the flak for it, not Jim. And resigning didn't do a heck of a lot for Lenny storylines last time. He probably wouldn't think, based on that experience, that it was going to improve much if he signed again. I know some people think they owed something to the rest of the cast and the crew, but everyone in this business knows how it works. Nothing lasts forever and they were lucky to have the years together that they did.

I believe this all came about before he knew his girlfriend was pregnant. So that doesn't play into his decision.

We don't know at what point they would have decided to end it if Jim hadn't done it at the beginning. And Johnnys relationship was serious and they were obviously thinking of starting a family or I think Johnny would have avoided doing so. I still say Kaley and Johnny are friends but he would not have based another decision on her.  She doesn't run his business life and the show was all but done anyway. He hadn't had good storylines to work with for a couple of years.

Building on that  : if he cared about his character, the storyline about the sperm donating dilemma would have felt like the pits for him. How much lower could they go ? If what happened to Leonard influenced his decision-making he'd have refused any further contracts point-blank.

The rest of the cast must have been wondering what more rubbish the writers were going to come up with. It was writing on the wall for what the next season was going to bring. Actors care about their reputations as well as money. What material they accept reflects on them to a certain extent.

But the bun wasn't in the oven then. Johnny's been in and out of serious relationships. Kaley did it before and who says she couldn't do it again. But this is all moot as Jim made the decision and Chuck ended the show. Your opinion is your opinion and my opinion is mine. There's no proving either opinion, other than Johnny gives an answer to that question in an interview. Personally, I don't believe that will happen!

Kaley recently said she is open to a spin-off. But Johnny has recently said he couldent continue any extension of the show without Jim.

Good for him. It should have ended, it did end and that's it. Lorre felt the show wasn't viable without any of the big three, and so do I, and from this, if it's true, so does Johnny. It's especially telling that the article says Kaley told People that she hadn't spoken to any of the rest of the cast since the show ended.

Johnny did say on instagram that he was up for at least a couple of seasons on the Connors, so spinoffs aren't his problem, just this one apparently. But maybe it's just too soon.

But, he was talking about doing TBBT without Jim. A Lenny spin off without Sheldon could be doable. The show would be about Lenny without Sheldon. Jim could do cameos from time to time like Laurie did.

Not in this article, she didn't. She said she'd work with Chuck Lorre again. He does other things besides write TBBT spin-offs.

Also, it's normal, from what they've said before, for the cast not all to keep in touch with one another during the summer as much as they used to. They have so much more other stuff claiming their attention than they had in the early years, obviously.  Work for some of them, for instance. The ones with children will be doing things with them during their long vac from school and nursery. A new husband is more than enough to keep Kaley occupied, not to mention houses, holidays  and horses.
