I don't think they would have done that at that time. God knows there were enough people besides Weinstein doing the same things for years and years anyway. But the writers must have thought it was funny, as it went perfectly well with a lot of the other slut jokes they came up with from start to almost finish. There were so many over the years.

I still say this is what they wanted to do. If they didn't want to do it they wouldn't  have done it and WOULD have stopped. They didn't so I don't think they saw it as character assassination. They had to have been getting off on in somehow.

I still say this is what they wanted to do. If they didn't want to do it they wouldn't  have done it and WOULD have stopped. They didn't so I don't think they saw it as character assassination. They had to have been getting off on in somehow.

I was just thinking with the current climate. With Corona. How funny would of a tbbt episode been on it? Be interesting. Because we know how germa phobe Sheldon was. You would think he would freak. But he would actually be more equipped then any of the other characters. Bit like in season 4. When he Downloaded his body into a virtual robot. I imagine be a bit like this...

Yeah, I agree. But, it would effect Sheldon the most. He would become even more insufferable. Then again, that would be mostly Amy's problem.

The Luther jokes were in very poor taste. Not unlike the aftermath of the Raj fiasco, where the show places the blame on Penny and the way alcohol makes her a promiscuous monster, apparently, and somehow her actions at such condition are to be judged as if she were 100% sober and concious.

In many cases, I think the writers treated the Penny character poorly. She was often more like The Popular Girl™ than a real person, with human thought processes and feelings. They seem to have projected their own perceptions and feelings toward this Popular Girl idea, instead of trying to see things from the Penny character's perspective. Relatedly, I've always thought it would've been better if the show had more female writers... It seems like it was something of a boys' club, with something like 9 man and 3 women in ther writers' room, even when they started expanding on the female characters.

The only time I saw Penny give it back to Sheldon was when he asked her for advice due to her "checkered past"  She told him to stick it where the sun doesn't shine but as usual Sheldon did not get the retort. Also, I happen to read a fan-fic about the scene when Amy and Sheldon move into apt. 4B and Sheldon insults Penny once again by saying plenty of men have slept in her bed. The fan-fic recreates this scene but with Penny getting her revenge by kicking Sheldon in the nuts and punching him in the nose. I thought this was a fitting response to Sheldon for all the times he had maligned and insulted her.

I wouldn't mind reading that fan fic if you have the title of it please? 

"  I've got a figure of speech about how sexually promiscuous you can go be with yourself " , probably one of my favourite Penny's lines  😆😆 We've seen Leonard visibly annoyed ( and hurt too IMO) at Sheldon's constant reminders of Penny past sex life but it would have been nice to hear him , at least once ,vocalize that anger. 

I'm surprised that female writers were involved because to me Penny was clearly written from a male point of view. 

I won't add anything on the Luther joke which was simply disgusting.

In some ways it is why Amy and Bermadette added alot of depth to the Penny character.  She was the typical girl next door. Obviously written from a men's point of view.

Speaking of the Raj fiasco with Penny, I think I read or heard something out there in the cosmos and wonder if it is true.  Did Chuck Lorre actually insist that the scene with Penny and Raj in bed was to be left in even though there were protests from both some of the writers and cast about its necessity to show it. Only after there were alot of complaints from viewers over the summer that they changed the script for the season five premiere to show that they did not really sleep together.

I hadn’t heard that one.   At Comic-Con that year, Bill Prady did say that whatever side you came down on(whether they did or didn’t sleep together) that you should be happy with the resolution. From the reactions, I’d say Bill was wrong

Helping him with the condom is not really sex in my eyes as the act was not consummated.  But as you state in your "Chew Toy Revelations" the intent to have sex was there. There was alot of speculation about how this would have turned out if they really had intercourse. I think the following storyline for Penny and Leonard would have  been markedly different. As per my previous post, maybe the altering of the script was essential for the Penny and Leonard story to prevail

Although I hated the Penny/Raj sleeping storyline along with the boat kiss storyline, I'm glad the writers let Leonard and Penny get past those trap falls and move on and be together.

I don't know what a Luther joke is. I've heard of Lex Luther who was in the Superman comics when I was a child and Martin Luther the Reformation priest.

I can't see what either of them has to do with Penny.

In 6-18 The Contractual Obligation Implementation, the girls are talking about skipping work, and going to Disneyland.  This conversation occurred, about skipping school:

Amy: Hooky? I’ve never played hooky in my life. My mom said that’s how girls end up addicted to reefer and jazz music.

Penny: It’s more like how girls end up at a Best Western hotel with a 34-year-old guy named Luther.

Bernadette: Joke?

Penny: I can laugh about it now.

The question from Bernadette where she asks Joke? was base on several comments by Penny prior to this, such as:

Are you kidding? You brought fancy wine and made fondue. I’ve slept with guys for less. It’s a joke. Based on real events.

Many Lennys were pissed off by that joke, cause they saw it as just another "slut Penny" comment.
