I have to agree this was handled rather poorly. The article did mention that Chuck Lorre kind of put JP on the spot by having him explain to cast and crew why he was not coming back. And I think this is what caused everyone's shock and surprise. He seemed to put the onus on JP because of his decision. Just the way I look at it.

Actually it is an entertainment news service online Deadline.com  I believe it is affiliated with The Hollywood Reporter

I'm not so sure! I don't think Johnny and Kaley were too interested as well. I feel that  they would have signed on if Jim did, but was secretly glad he didn't. Now, the other 4, I have no clue as to their positions on this subject!

I don't know why they had to say it was a sudden decision though. Everyone knew it could happen and many people thought it would. Plus it was widely known if it was going to end it would be better to say that quickly.

just went on the cbs facebook jim is getting called selfish prick i don't know if cbs reads any of these comments but wow now news is out it was jim who what to leave this has caused some unrest in big bang theory land if i was jim i would lay low for a while there a lot of angry people out there

The story coming out is weird.  CBS may have wanted a two year renewal but I don’t believe they would have insisted on it.  Also At the end of the season Jim sounded like one of the most likely to renew.  He said he he was having the most fun since the first season and sounded like he wanted to renew.  And he seemed very close to Mayim who said clearly she wants to renew.  So I am not surprised if the crew in particular felt blind-sided.  As far as the cast goes, I suspect they all had some idea what the others were thinking but maybe Jim just has too many opportunities out there- maybe a spin-off.

I'm kind of surprised by the silence from WB/CBS/Chuck Lorrre Productions on all of this.  It's like they are leaving Jim twisting in the wind and letting him absorb all of the blame.  Especially now since "sources" are "spilling" on how it all went down.  A simple statement from any of them would do quite a bit to alleviate some of the heat on JP.

i can seriously see why WB,CBS and Chuck Lorre are upset

If they were to go the Penny-route, they could have Leonard plan a birthday trip to Omaha. I could see Leonard planning throwback activities to Penny's upbringing in NE, with him trying his hardest to fit into her world. I would love to see Katey Sagal back as "Susan." I also think Amy Davidson would be a great choice to play Penny's sister. I'm always up for more 8 Simple Rules tie-ins!

Chuck Lorre and class have never gone together. TAAHM is proof of that.  As to him the WB and CBS their bent of shape about losing money. JP made the mistake of giving too much warning. JG was smart by not doing this. Hopefully as a positive there will be less Sheldon storylines.

I think all parties have handled the situation rather poorly.  If the reports are correct, the other actors were unaware of Jim's intentions and many of them, if not all, were willing to continue with the show (I know it's not the common impression on this board, but that's what all the articles about the matter say), he should have spoken with them earlier and not let them discover the whole situation in a meeting with the boss. But the way the meeting itself was handled and the fact it is now public knowledge  is also something I would have done very differently. Ending the show rather than writing a character off is a creative decision, Jim had all the rights to quit and he shouldn't be held responsible for the end of TBBT. Anyway, we don't know how much of what said in those articles is accurate and, in any case,  in a few days other news will be out there and all this will be forgotten by the general public. Let's hope in a great final season and wish all the actors well for their future.

They have no choice. He won’t be under contract.

Jim isn’t just an actor on TBBT, he is a business partner with Lorre, CBS, and Warner Brothers on You g Sheldon.  He is potentially, and likely hurting his business partners because of the tie ins between the shows.

He is not an indentured servant.  He is an actor under contract and that contract is expiring.  He had every right to decide not to sign a new contract. That is a fact whether you like it or not.

This is so unfair. He owes them nothing. He put in his time. The show had to end sometime and it could not go on without Jim, yes, but I'm 100% sure he wasn't the only one who had doubts.

What exactly have they done to him?  Or threatened to do to him?  Being upset is not vengeance.  Anyway those entities are in the power position 99.99% of the time.
