[Spoilers] Season 12 Discussion Thread

Tensor

Recommended Posts

I seriously don't understand what is happening with this forum at the moment.

Sheldon isn't being written out, why would he be? If they write Sheldon out then Amy will go with him.

The show is ending, there will be no more seasons, unless they decide to do a reunion season 10 years down the line.

And Jim posted his thoughts and feelings towards the show ending on Instagram, and to me it seemed like he was throwing barbs at people who are accusing him that it is his fault the show is ending.

12 years is a bloody good effort for any show, and yes we may have wanted one more season (personally I feel as though this is the right time to end things) and there will be more shows that will capture our imagination and make us want to join new forums and talk about those episodes.

And just remember don't be sad the show is ending, be happy because there will always be reruns on, or if you have every season on DVD you can watch it as many times as you like. Because while the show may be ending with the twelfth season, with no more seasons afterwards, just remember you can watch the 12 year journey again and again for the rest of time

I'm legitimately surprised the people who think Sheldon can be written out aren't locked in a mental ward

What would they do for 20 minutes without Sheldon?

Sarcasm? I'm not good with reading sarcasm.

Sheldon could be written out very easily. Maybe replaced by another super nerd, or not replaced at all. Goes to work at CERN, for one possibility.

I know I haven't been on this forum for a while, but I feel the need to chime in my opinion.  First I firmly believe that any actor has a right to do whatever they feel is best for their own career and future so JP's deciding to call it quits is his prerogative.

That being said, I don't think it was fair to turn a ensemble into a pretty much "one man show" where if he left, TPTB would feel there was NO show.  That is pretty disrespectful to the other 6 stars of the show who have been there from the beginning or at least the majority of the seasons.  And it seems kind of weird (if true) that some of the cast was not notified sooner.  It's like saying "well now that JP is out, we don't think you could carry a show even though we made the whole show about his character".  That's how I see it....

Well said   Very prophetic

They could write out Shamy to live on a Island, and discover the answer to String Theories Long Lost Cousin.

What would they do for 20 mins without Sheldon? Boy where do I began.

One might think so but the network would have to buy it. As far as I can tell from the link posted earlier it was not even up for discussion. Nor have we heard of fans starting a petition to keep it going. I doubt that will happen for a show that has had such a long run already.

I wouldn't say most people are venting in the comment section of Jim's IG post. From what I can see most comments are supportive, people are sad the show is ending but thank him and the whole cast for the work of all those years. Same thing happens in the TBBT Official FB page. Of course, there are some angry comments, the rumors spread in the press have done their job, but overall things are ok. I wouldn't be worried that riots are happening because TBBT is ending, LOL!

I agree all handled things very poorly, but I doubt we'll get any interview from Jim or the producer anytime soon. WB/CBS/Lorre Productions have released a joint statement about the end of the show and this is their "official" take on it. All the rest are rumours (which shouldn't have been spread in the first place, but now it's done and there's nothing we can do to change the situation) and, if Jim addresses them,  he would dignify them and make things worse, especially if they are true... At this point, the best thing to do is waiting for the storm to pass, I guess it will be soon enough.

I think WB is NOT happy with JP right now, who do you think all the sources are coming from? I'm not sure what CL's attitude, I've read some articles saying he already moved on to the YS, but ironically, YS still needs to hold on to TBBT, so with TBBT's ending, I'm not sure that show could go on too long.  Some fans are thinking: why couldn't they just write Sheldon off? Well, obviously, in their minds, they just CAN'T. Or else, we would face the alternative reality, as in almost the ending of S.12, or after it finishes, we receive the announcement saying "we are sorry but JP can't come back the next season, but we already have new cast, so rest assured, TBBT will still be great!" Or something like that. But NO, we got this (to some people) sudden news.

That being said, I don't have any sympathy with TPTB here. Personally, I love Sheldon the character, but the way I see it, they made the bed, they are gonna sleep on it. This " turning TBBT into the Sheldon show" thing has been going on since SEASON 2. Back then I always thought they made Sheldon the leading character after Amy showed up, but after some rewatching and discussing with my friends and reading the comments made me realize that it had begun since S.2, they fleshed Sheldon out by giving him more iconic lines and scenes and more alone interactions with Penny. And then, they even created a new character to be his SO, I mean, come on.

The poor handling of the whole situation (so far) had made the thing worse, I'd guess the next 23 episodes shooting might be awkward...

Out of curiosity (as I think this won't happen with TBBT), are there any TV series in recent years that were renewed (in the same Network) after their final season was announced?

I agree. That's basically what I have witnessed too.

No, just checked on Google and that's not the case...even if they should have done that, according to many fans (no idea since I have never really watched the show, exactly because many friends complained about its ending) the series finale was rather poor, LOL!

My personal theory (at this point) is that Jim made up his mind over the summer so it's not him just deciding last week on a whim. According to reports they tried to persuade him to change his mind over the weekend but obviously they haven't been successful. I would say it wasn't an easy decision for him so I think the hostility is misplaced. He's been carrying the show for a long time now (yes, it's the writers fault for giving him the load of the work but still) and if he says he won't do it anymore for whatever reason then more power to him.

Also, people went into production of this season half expecting it to be the last anyway. Holland has said so many times in interviews so I think everyone was at least partly braced for it to end. Of course, it's always a shock when it becomes reality but I would hope everyone will be keeping it professional this year and don't have hard feelings towards Jim.

I’m not sure about this. We had Star Trek and it stopped. Then endless spinoffs.

YS is designed to be stand-alone. It’s like a child - it needed a parent but eventually it should carry on by itself.  It is too risky a business proposition for the planners to expect otherwise. And the re-runs of TBBT will proxy for new episodes.

He has given up to 50 million dollars (plus all the bonuses we don't know about)  and possibly pissed off WB/CBS/Lorre, which are very valuable connections, do you think he would reconsider because of angry fans? If that happened, I'm not sure, as a Jim's fan, I would want to see him in a job he has so clearly shown he is unhappy about, and I think TBBT would suffer from that.

Jim knew that leaving the show might have huge impact over YS, and he did it anyway, this to me indicates he has very strong reasons to quit. Anyway, let's agree on disagree here, in the following weeks we'll see what happens.
