[Spoilers] Season 12 Discussion Thread

It was a very popular, yet ill-fated TV series on Fox. That ran for one season. Sheldon referenced I Think in Season One. Saying how that show is going to be on for a long time. Like TBBT huh.

It was not ‘very popular’ actually it wasn’t popular at all truth be told.

It lasted one season in which it finished 98th place in the ratings for the single season it was on the air and only pulled in an average 4.7 Million viewers per week.

I guess for a Fox Show it wasn’t to bad but to say it was popular is an overstatement. I don’t know how well it did on NZ.

I probably only heard of the show one or two other tomes and I never seen an Episode of it

Well I guess I was trying to say. That it was a cult hit. But not neccessarily in certian demographics. Like you said in ratings.

TBBT is a rare commodity in that its a cult hit. But it is also huge in key demos.

I watched the series on Netflix after hearing the references on tbbt.

I didn't even with the reference from the show. It's like "YS" it doesn't interest me. Nor does Dr. Who. I'm glad you enjoyed it though,

Doesn't do anything for me. I've heard of it, never felt like watching it.

They had some interesting quirky characters. Summer Glau as River in particular.

I'm kind of surprised by the silence from WB/CBS/Chuck Lorrre Productions on all of this.  It's like they are leaving Jim twisting in the wind and letting him absorb all of the blame.  Especially now since "sources" are "spilling" on how it all went down.  A simple statement from any of them would do quite a bit to alleviate some of the heat on JP.

I am very disappointed, although not totally surprised by Chuck Lorre's actions on the matter. He has always struck me as kind of a dick, so I would sort of expect this from him. While I believe Jim's actions took everyone by surprise, if I were him, I would not lay low at all (as another poster suggested). There is nothing Jim has to apologize for and as I've said before, the decision to leave TBBT when his contract expires is well within his rights. End of the freaking story. A lot of people might not like it, but tough, we can't all get what we want in life, now can we?

I think all parties have handled the situation rather poorly.  If the reports are correct, the other actors were unaware of Jim's intentions and many of them, if not all, were willing to continue with the show (I know it's not the common impression on this board, but that's what all the articles about the matter say), he should have spoken with them earlier and not let them discover the whole situation in a meeting with the boss. But the way the meeting itself was handled and the fact it is now public knowledge  is also something I would have done very differently. Ending the show rather than writing a character off is a creative decision, Jim had all the rights to quit and he shouldn't be held responsible for the end of TBBT. Anyway, we don't know how much of what said in those articles is accurate and, in any case,  in a few days other news will be out there and all this will be forgotten by the general public. Let's hope in a great final season and wish all the actors well for their future.

I think that a whole season is early enough...

CBS, WB and Chuck Lorre obviously don’t agree with this.

Too bad for them. they're wrong.

What's a Firefly? Is that the same as a Lightning Bug? If it's a TV show, then I never seen it!

One of the best sci-fi shows ever which only lasted  a season and were not properly supported by Fox broadcasting which aired the show. They wrapped everything up with the movie Serenity. If you can check it out. IMO it was an awesome show.

I'll take your word for it, as I have never watched even a commercial of Firefly.

Firefly is one of those shows that has a very vocal cult following that'll tell you it's the best thing since sliced bread. But with the general audience it wasn't popular at all, hence the cancellation. Heck, I'd even say the quality leaves much to be desired for though it did have some good ideas and I think on some level this unfulfilled promise of a great space western is what kept its fanbase alive. I've read some of the ideas they had for other episodes that they didn't get to film and wasn't particularly impressed so I wonder if the show being in this bubble of untapped potential is probably the best thing it has going for thus avoiding becoming a mediocre mess.

May I just say that I'm slightly worried about what could come out after the show is over. For example,I don't want to read that Galecki and Parsons can't stand each other or something like that . I'm not saying they should all be best friends but it just ruins it for me.This has happened with before.

I liked Firefly at the time - but only saw after its broadcast release, on disc. That meant I saw it in its intended order, and without the spoiling promos.  It died young and pretty. 13 seasons might have made it the opposite. We’ll never know.

In contrast,  TBBT gave things  a good solid go, maybe even a hammering  There is little, maybe some,  to regret as it passes. It’s certainly not been cut short.

Again, the wrap up could be fabulous. Let’s hope.

....

@DoctorWhat Wait for the kiss’n-tells I guess, but I don’t think there are any shocks to be delivered. They’ve had time enough for things to brew and leak.

How it was handled and how it all transpired is sometimes just as important as the end outcome, hell the end outcome or decision you can perhaps stomach after some time, how it played out can leave lingering feelings for some time to come.

To each his or her own, but if it turned out they secretly hated each other and had feuded for years I would probably admire that they managed to be professional and make a show that for a long time was at the top.

I totally agree 100%. I personally don't think that will happen.

They certainly would not be the first people who worked together on a hit show for years to hated each other. That's common.

McCauley Caulkin?  2 seasons ándate is over anyway.   Honestly if it wasn’t for the Young Sheldon thing I think it would be worth a try.  They could just ditch the narrator think on YS

No, that is JP's project.

I know but he is just one Of the Producers the creator is Lorre.  Anyway he doesn’t have to play Sheldon.  Sheldon could be off wherever doing whatever.  It would be better for the others if he wan’t Sheldon anyway and created some new dynamics.

It would seem like TBBT is heading towards being tied off with I nice big bow tie. The future past season 12 is endless reruns and YS. I think there is still money to be made there and I'm guessing the best thing to do is not mess that up.

There was plenty in there to not like I guess. Some of the characters seemed to have a lot of potential.

Anyway, we have more 23 tapings to go and we have already known from S12 Ep1 taping. So:

What do you expect to see from characters lives told in the show before last episode?

God only knows with these writers. They could go in any direction. Personally, I feel nothing is off the table.

Ok. But what would like to see? One thing is what you or I would like to see , other is what will you and I see. What I am curious about is what people would like to be told in these remaining 23 tapings.

Closure on several items. Most notability Tenure. Maybe Penny pregnant. She doesn't have to have the baby, just an announcement. That announcement can come in any episode 2 thru 24. It really doesn't matter when.
