My experience with rings: (not the "One Ring".  That's something else entirely.  My buddy Frodo and I had some issues with that, but that is another story....)

The women in my circle (my late mom, my wife, sisters-in-law, some friends) wear/wore their wedding rings (a simple gold band--some more intricate than others) all the time.  Some wore their engagement ring often as well, worn on top of the wedding ring.  They would take it off when doing housework, gardening or other things for which they used their hands in a sort of harsh way.  I can see Amy (or even Bernadette) leaving their engagement ring off when at work if they were using harsh chemicals, or in Amy's case if they were wearing protective gloves.  It is (again, in my circle) usual to wear the wedding ring all the time.....

Anyway.  That is my two cents.  Now....back to our regular programming.....

With the recent announcement that Season 12 will be the sitcom’s last, showrunner Steve Holland hints that a long-gestating Big Bang plot will finally have a payoff. “Raj’s search for love will definitely play a big role this season,” the EP confirms. Perhaps to that end, a fall storyline will find Raj turning to his dad to arrange a marriage for him. Penny and Leonard, meanwhile, will finally “tackle the question of whether or not they want kids,” says Holland of the childless couple. And the newly wedded Sheldon and Amy will encounter a marital speed bump when “Sheldon realizes that he didn’t just marry Amy, he married her family and decides to become friends with Amy’s parents” (played by returning guest stars Kathy Bates and Teller). 

BONUS SPOILER!: Will Sheldon’s late childhood hero, Arthur Jeffries aka Professor Proton, make one final appearance before the May climax? Replies Holland: “There are certainly people that we love that we want to see again — like Bob Newhart.”

About the Rings. Most Women I known don't wear their Engagement Ring with their Wedding Ring but then again most Women I know  don't/didn't have an Engagement Ring or their Engagement Ring is same as their Wedding ring.  Some didn't even have a wedding Ring. Many quick Marriages in front of The justice of The Peace in My Family Tree. They may have gotten rings alter on but they were not a Wedding or Engamgent or it was loaned by a Mother or Grandmother. 

Shamy had enough time to arrange their wedding with all the traditional trimmings ,although they came within a whisker of  a quick one, and are both gainfully employed. The engagement ring cost them nothing and they could afford a wedding ring each.

I was disappointed with the last Proton appearance, here's hoping they have some special in store for the final season.  Still think there will be some twist with Raj, a simple arranged marriage would feel too easy.  I'm all for seeing more of Amy's parents, hoping the writers remember they are her parents and perhaps we can get a more focused on Amy storyline from it.  Happy that Sheldon is at least going to try and attempt to form a relationship or kind of bond with them, even if it turns out to be unsuccessful it's the right move and it shows his heart is in the right place.

Thank you for bringing the news.

I'm happy about Raj. By the way it's written here I don't think it will be quick and simple.

Now, I don't want to be a party pooper or anything, but "whether or not they want kids" has me worried. We already had them saying they want kids two times and another time when that was kind of "we will have kids in some time". They can twist that up and say Penny postponed that because she really doesn't want kids and she realizes it now. They may think it is brave and important to show that but they had a chance to do that with Bernadette... Penny has many times been maternal on the show and there was never a hint that she didn't want kids so I really really really hope they don't go there, it may ruin the season for me. I'm not saying Leonard because that really seema unlikely. What I hope for is that Holland is trying to draw viewers by not making it seem obvious, and that what they have now is a more serious, practical conversation. Maybe they confess to each other their worries about parenthood and they support each other. I love myself a good, open, supportive (and IC and not contrived) conversation.

You know Moloro going "Whether or not, they want kids" is not kinda some specific clue into what direction they well head. Just sounds to me he is paraphrasing. Genralizing. We know they want kids. IT is like saying Leonard and Penny are going to A or B. Not neccessarily one or the other. I am sure Penny well get pregnant eventually. I think it well be an unplanned pregnancy.

If they do decide to have children, the way Holland said it sounds like a planned pregnancy to me, which I like. I would like Wyatt and Susan to gush over the first planned baby in the family and how everything great about the baby is because s/he was planned LOL (I'm relying here on Susan's reaction on the phone when Penny announced her engagement, that it will be the first pregnant-free wedding for the family).

Just thinking, could Wyatt appearing have anything to do with the Lenny or Sheldon stories Holland talked about?

Maybe he's pressuring Penny on having children?

Maybe Sheldon sees Leonard gets along well with him and it makes him want to try to get along with his in-laws?

I'm thinking unrelated, but hoping for the pressuring of Penny to have those grand kids that don't live in houses that are on wheels

So far no one has come forth.

The spoilers from TV Line that @luminous posted could be about this episode. It would certainly fit if we got 3 story lines - Sheldon trying to befriend his in-laws, Lenny dealing with the question of becoming parents (possibly due to her dad interfering in some way, Keith Carradine said he's back for a bit so that would make sense) and something about Raj's love life cause we know he asked his dad to find a woman for him.
