I’m fuming hookie. I wonder if kaley or Johnny pointed out the inconsistency.

Personally, I don't think they did. I mean would it had really mattered? I'm wondering if they remembered. They have scripts to learn every week. I really don't think the writers really care at all. I was looking forward to this season as we were told they would go out with a bang. I've been disappointed as so far it's been a whimper!

My guess is no. They get paid to read the script and act it out. To them it's just a job.

I bet they get the feeling that they are supposed to act like "good little soldiers".....

You could be right. For me it feels like doing a disservice to loyal fans who have been invested in these wonderful characters from the beginning.

I'd like to think that they are invested in the characters as far as continuity and history is concerned.  That the “work product” here means something bigger than a paycheck.  I just think that for the sake of a laugh TPTB overrule any pushback....

I think they do and want to have a funny accurate show. With that said, they (actors) can't remember from 9 years ago. The writers have staff members to check  the accuracy. Maybe accuracy just don't matter anymore for TPTB.

I got a sense of dread reading that they're going to do something more with the latest retcon of Leonard and Penny disagreeing on having children. I really hope they'll surprise me in a positive way, but right now I just can't trust them to handle it well. Like, I can totally see them coming up with more retconing, like having Penny suddenly say she never liked kids or never really wanted kids or thought about having kids (not saying she was keen to have kids but we've seen her at least thinking about this possibility various times). I'm not saying it will happen, I just can't put something like this beyond the writers. I'm also not saying it will for sure, 100%, upset me or others, this is just a comment about my mistrust of the writers when it comes to Lenny (and, in a smaller part, to serious topics in general).

We clearly disagree on this topic. But I dont see how Penny decidingto not have kids is recton. They never established either way it was cannon. So I dont think much well change their. I think it well continue to be a gray area.

I don't know what will happen. I just don't trust the writers to do anything good for Lenny.

We will never agree on this. However, my main point was about how I dread the writers dealing with this issue, just sharing negative feelings regarding the writing of Lenny, which is the main purpose of this thread. I'm not saying everyone should agree or feel similarly.

It might be a point of perspective. 😉

The penny has just dropped that fans would be following Leonard and Penny through their ups and downs and their chopping and changing,  hoping  in time they'd make it.

I wonder if it was planned like that from the beginning, or if romance wasn't intended to be major in the show but KC's wonderful acting and her and JG's great chemistry convinced the programme makers to make Lenny a major and continuing story. Anyway, they should have kept it in the foreground to the end.

Good point. It didn't occur to me there was a romance to follow with Lenny married at the end of it. Yes, perhaps the writers thought the same at first and  then were influenced by those fans who demanded a romance after the acting and chemistry came across to them.

So what is your perspective on this? :) I'm asking out of true interest. The Lenny shipping thread is for positive comments, so Dark, IMO, is for the venting...

Well, I gave your post my like for a reason. I also think venting could be very positive.

I find points in your and veejay's posts that I can agree with.

If they'd had a pregnant Penny it would have been non stop complaining about the style of maternity clothes, getting fat, and not being able to drink. ESPECIALLY not being able to drink. You know with these writers that that's what they would have done. So maybe everyone is lucky that they haven't done it. That's why I never wanted them to do it. I know I've said this before, but some people always had more faith in the writers than I did.

I can understand yr feelings, but I did read that Holland wants to end on a feel good note saying this is a comedy first, so I do believe however slight, that in some capacity they will give Penny and Leonard a happy ending.

I am just wondering when the end is all done if any of the cast, especially Johnny or Kaley would say how they really felt about their characters portrayals. Think more Johnny than Kaley.......just thinking out loud.

I also recall Kaley saying it was her dream from the pilot that Penny and Leonard would marry.

I personally preferred that to 12×03 that was just terrible to me, and to them being mostly sidelined for now almost half the last season.  Also, they didn't have to have Penny change her mind about having kids for her not ti be pregnant on the show, they could've easily have her get pregnant at the very end or keep this possibility open for after the show's timeline.

Yes, we are all well aware of that. .  That’s why this thread was created.  So we could vent about what we see as problems in the writers perceptions.  I maintain the writers perception of what they are writing is quite a bit different  based on their complete shock when, in season 10, they were asked if Lenny were getting divorced.  They had no clue their writing could be perceived that way.

They have always written Leonard & Penny as a turbulent pairing always having ups and downs, but after they got married writing them that way became harder. Which is why when they do write them like that now it comes across badly, which is why so many of us thought something bad was going to happen with the way they were written in the second half of season ten. It could also be why we don't get many storylines for them because they continue to write them that way and they know they can't do that all the time or fans will question what's going on between them.
