Of course it was said with a wink - hence why I called it a "joke". The post I quoted simply reminded me of it.

I was trying to point out how what is being brought up here, what s feared, is different than what has been (e.g., the line you cited).

Oh no worries, I'm able to follow a conversation for more than two posts. No need to explain the obvious to me. It was just an apropos I was throwing in.

That second gif!!! The way she reaches out for him as he’s walking away. The look in her eyes at having hurt his feelings All perfect!

Thanks for these @veejay!!!

It is interesting that already this season this is the second time she has had to address seriously hurting his feelings, remember when she told him she didn’t want kids.

Yeah, are the writers softening their stance on Lenny?

I hope you are right and this is not going to be the theme of this last season Lenny, Penny being sort of self-involved and therefore hurting Leonard emotionally.

Well this episode wasn't as bad as i feared although i didn't like the fact she had Halloween parties and never invited him after the first one she had even when they were dating. I also didn't like how they rewrote the reason for the Halloween kiss , instead of Penny coming to check on Leonard after his confrontation with Kurt. Then Leonard saying she was perfect which led to her kissing him and calling him a great guy and she wished all guys were like him.

Now we're supposed to believe that she was still with Kurt( she wasn't she just invited him to her party) and she only kissed Leonard because she was using him to make herself feel better. Which i didn't like because that's not what happened but like always now, the writers don't care about continuity especially when it comes to Lenny.

Also Penny kind of contradicted herself she said near the beginning of the episode that the kiss on his birthday was because she felt sorry for him. Yet in their final scene Penny tells him she wanted their first kiss to mean something and that's why she said it was the one on his birthday. So she wants that to be their first kiss because she wants it to mean something yet she say she only kissed him then because she felt sorry for him. Hows does only kissing him because she felt sorry for him make it mean something? .

Yeah it makes you wonder if the writers even go over what they wrote, to check if it makes sense, before they give the script to the actors.   I really felt that her telling him that she kissed him to make herself feel good or because she felt sorry for him was just another form of the writers using the worn out line that Leonard wore her down.

The writers don't what they wrote in earlier episodes.

I have to respectfully disagree here. I always believed she kissed Leonard to make her self feel better. Here’s the dialogue.

Penny: Hey Just wanted to make sure your okay.

Leonard: I’m fine.

Penny: I’m so so sorry about what happened.

Leonard: It’s not your fault.

Penny: Yes it is. That’s why I broke up with him.

Leonard: So why was he at your party?

Penny:  Well, I ran into him last week and, he was…  just, all apologetic, about how he’s changed, he was just going on and on and I believed him, and I’m an idiot because I always believe guys like that and… I can’t go back to my party because he’s there, and I know you don’t want to hear this and I’m upset and I’m really drunk and I just want to… (bursts into tears and rests head on Leonard’s shoulder.)

Leonard: There, Their.

Penny: God, what is wrong with me?

Leonard: Nothing, you’re perfect.

Penny: Gah. I’m not perfect.

Leonard: Yes you are.

Penny: You really think so don’t you? (She kisses him)

Leonard: Penny?

Penny: Yeah.

Leonard: How much have you had to drink tonight?

Penny: Just.... A lot

Leonard:  Are you sure that your being drunk, and your being angry with Kurt doesn’t have something to do with what’s going on here?

Penny: It might. Boy. you’re really smart.

Leonard: Yeah. I’m a fricken genius.

So while I do Believe subconsciously Penny wanted to kiss Leonard. It’s not exactly a break of continuity to say Penny was feeling sorry for herself . And she was really really drunk. As for their kiss on Leonard’s birthday. I guess you could take it as a contradiction. But the narrative was she felt bad that he never had a birthday. And I felt the kiss was really impulsive. And not something she predetermined. And poor Mike! 😂. So I actually believe their 2nd kiss was more memorable to Penny. As she was lupid. And it wasent based on any false pretenses. It was impulsive and spontaneous. She really wanted to kiss Leonard. And the following kisses later.

And as for the Halloween parties Leonard was not invited too. Well I guess it’s the same in Leonard not inviting Penny to symposiums.

They don’t always get the dialogue right with Penny. I had no problem with her kiss as a feeling sorry for you reaction. Feeling sorry for someone is not a negative thing. She literally said “I’m so sorry you didn’t get your party” then kissed him to show she was “upset” about that and here’s my belated birthday present to you - a non drunk kiss to make you feel better. And it worked! Each to their own opinion but IMO sometimes we get “dark” for the sake of it here. It was a great Lenny episode that we were pre stressed about because of out of context preview clips and maybe we’re still clinging on to the anger we had . I’m happy with the whole Lenny story in this episode, except the tag could have been the follow on to their last scene.

With Penny's comment and a wink of an eye, I would like to agree with your remarks.

I agree, except for the past few seasons we, Lenny Fans, have grown accustomed to having Lenny angst thrown at us. It was great seeing a nice episode.

When I first heard that dialogue from Penny about that she was drunk and was still with Kurt, I thought as well that it was not accurate. She indeed said as 3ku11 posted the actual dialogue, she just invited him to her party not that they were dating again. I also think she said she felt sorry for him in the beginning because she didn't want to tell him how she really felt.  So in the end she revealed her true feelings and the kiss at his birthday party was more memorable for her. But like it was mentioned she was still dating Mike at this point. It was not until the next episode that she breaks up with him and Leonard finally asks her out.

Yes, she was still with Mike, but I feel that she was on the verge of ending it with him. It was probably like Kurt, She was thinking he was cheating, but hadn't caught him yet! That kiss was meant to be a happy birthday/sorry you missed your party kiss. It surprised her that she enjoyed it so much!

Sat what you want to say! I don't consider it cheating. Just a friendly birthday kiss. Mike cheated by actually sex with another woman! Penny's possible cheating depends on each persons opinion!

Lol mate I was being disengenious. I was just saying I don’t give my female friends a friendly birthday kiss on the mouth alone. Especially if I was involved. That’s just me though. I guess it’s up to your own personal interpretation. As was the Leonard Mandy Gate.

I have given female friends kisses on the lips, cheek and forehead. As to the rest of your post, I agree. It does depend on your own interpretation. As for Mandy Gate, not enough evidence for me to have an opinion. Never saw the kiss, just Leonard's version and he was supposedly drunk, so who knows what truly happened? The most important fact is Penny forgave Leonard and they have moved on! Unless the writers feel the need to bring it up again!
