What a load of garbage that was. Full of twisted half truths, misleading BS, outright factual errors and distorted timelines. And they couldn’t even get the screenrant.com spellchecker to fix 12. you’ve got a FrEInd in me. Embarrassing drivel that is an insult to one of the great and lasting legacies of the show. Just not needed.

Couldn't get the spellchecker to tell than from then either, nor to use the grammar checker to tell siblings' from sibling's. This is primary school stuff. We all can make typos : it's arrogant not to get work checked before it goes up.

Just read on the season 12 DT that the April 2  taping no. 21 (the 276th episode) will again be about Shamy and the two scientists haggling for the Nobel prize nomination.  This makes three out of the last four episodes about Shamy quest for the prize. Don't these writers know how to write about anything else?  When will they get to the Lenny situation and if Raj and Anu will get married?

This season should be called "Super Asymmetry", for both that endless plot that seems to take over the season, and the writers' treatment of the characters.

I'm not even sure why people keep posting articles from that site.  They're not even main stream media.

Yeah, weird. I thought this was a discussion forum here.

Seriously? Out of the next four episodes to be aired . They are going to be covering the superasymetry plot in three?. That's ridiculous and a complete waste of such limited number of episodes. Also this Shamy plot has had more attention than the Shamy engagement plot from last season.

These writers have made this season the crappiest one ever. I'm glad the show is ending as i would hate to think what crap we would have been given.

I'm on the verge of agreeing with you completely.

Just as I predicted so is the end of the season just about Shamy.

I'm guessing that we will as usual get a Lenny plot in one of the final episode, that is rushed and not thought through by the writers.

I doubt that we will even get that., maybe a tiny unimportant plot. But i doubt they'll get the main again.  I. believe 22 will be either Raj or Howardette as main plot. With 23 will be Shamy leading into the finale. Which will be 70% Shamy focused.

Of course i am hoping i am wrong, but given how this final season has been. I can't see Lenny getting a plot. Or  anything good happening for Lenny till the finale. Even then i suspect it won't be anything good. Defintely nothing fans of the couple will be happy with.

But you never know i could be totally wrong. And Lenny will have an amazing end.

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay i  have a quick question ,

With there being no new episode  this week and the finale being on the 16th May that leaves five weeks but six episodes. But they have mentioned that the finale will be an hour-long special . So my question is  will the season be only 23 episodes long or will the  supposedly hour-long finale actually be episodes 23 and 24 being shown back to back?

Please correct me if i have anything wrong as i don't read the main discussion thread until  after i have watch the episode, so i could have missed something.

It will probably be 2 episodes cut in half hour slots, one after the other. So yeah. 24 episodes.

The finale is episodes 23 and 24 back to back.

Thanks for the info.

Although why have they called it an hour-long finale when it isn't?

Who knows their rationale?  Some say a one hour and others say 2 back to back episodes. it's all in each person's perception!

They're missing an ep this week and doubling up 23 with 24 on the last night. It'll be because they only contracted for sixteen hours - 48 x 20 mins -  two years ago, forgetting they might want to make 48 longer if it was to be the last-ever episode. That's my guess. Or perhaps they didn't forget, just didn't want to spend more money.

(Cough)

Does any one know enough about storytelling theory to explain why having the L/P story revolve around missed wins and intense struggles was a choice for the writers?

My thought is that core principle at the outset was that these two were inexorably paired, so then the writers could devise scenarios to pry apart that connection and the pay off for the audience was that that fission would never actually occur. That’s not an uncommon couples story. What maybe distinguishes this couple is that so often the laugh comes from not breaking out with a “hallelujah” moment of joy, but more the “pie in the face” (see Leonard with his pants down in front of his mum) This maybe meant that the audience was more deeply affected and hence engaged by those rare incidents of delight, such as The Holographic Excitation.

Sois it that keeping the committed audience in suspense, hoping for the better outcome next time, leads to deeper engagement and more repeat business, much like the way that poker/slot machines are engineered?

I was certainly hooked by it, until the Sheldon flood swamped their stories.

Just musing, in retrospect.

Not me. The writers can't do Lenny happiness as it takes away from Shamy's happiness and scene time! 😞

That’s a part of it, I think. Competition. But they didn’t use the same model for Sheldon. He often gets the win. He gets what he wants. In this case, if you are attracted to the Shamy story, you get a reinforcement from the wins. With Sheldon, it’s more like “wins are great,  give ‘em more of that”.  Leonard’s wins are scarce. Maybe that makes them more valuable.

Maybe it’s simply a matter of popularity. Perhaps more people were engaged by the broad oddity of Sheldon, rather than the specificity of the particular realisation of the “guy playing out of his league” trope of L/P. And I’d (biasedly) characterise that specificity as being a combination of the particular charm of the actors, the absolute determination of the characters to persevere and the nature of the flipped roles  (Leonard nurtures, Penny kills spiders). That might not have had the legs to go long, compared to mining Sheldon’s possibilities.

So, we didn’t get to see Leonard lauded, or to lord it over the defeated ogre, as some may have wished. Upside: we got to see L/P for 12 season, imperfect as their presentation was.

I wonder if any of the creatives wished they had gone other ways, or if they are just happy with their extraordinary success, with no regrets.

That's one dang good question and we'll probably never get an answer to it.
