I think the most important thing to do is speak the truth. Particularly to people you are close to.  I'm not such a big fan of taking to the streets. It can have unintended and tragic consequences because shady people take advantage and start riots and looting.

I think the Women’s March after the inauguration went fine. I don’t recall reports of disturbances. More like that.  Less like upset sports fans. 😀

And home before dark.

But it happens way too often that some idiots try to use a peaceful protest to start rioting. Sometimes it's the police themselves who send in two or three "undercover" officers to start a riot so they can move in and break up the protest.

There's a video out there of a peaceful protest. Two guys with facemasks tried to throw rocks or something and the protestors stopped them, essentially boxed them in with their backs against the wall. After a few minutes they shoved the two towards the police who took them away. When they were on the ground, you could see that they were wearing the same official police boots as the riot police. The same ones, down to the official stamp on the bottom of the shoe that said what it was.

What would be the alternative? Stay home and be a good boy? That's how you make every asshole a winner (see also various election results).  :blind:

No, but every protest should designate something like a rapid response team to go active whenever other protestors see people who hide their faces because they will want to make your peaceful protest into a violent one which will give the police the chance to go in an break it up forcefully.

A few years ago, Trump tweeted four times that Obama would attack Iran to "get reelected" or "provide a diversion". I fully expect Trump to start a war, even if it's just a "minor" one, sometime in the next year or so to change the topic from his numerous scandals. Maybe when Paul Manafort or Michael Cohen are on trial

Speaking of children, how is his administration going with putting incarcerated kids back together with their deported parents. It’s a heinous act that still hasn’t been remedied, from what I’m reading here. To get a sense of the anguish those mothers must feel I’m reflecting on  Meryl Streep’s performance in Sophie’s Choice.  It’s not completely analogous, but there are parallels. Or look at the Rabbit-Proof Fence.  State sponsored acts that terrify children.

THE STUCK CAPS LOCK is just a distraction.

“Three card monte” is Trump’s native game. And the “creeping socialism” of tariffs and subsidies is another part of his native game too, apparently. He’s never been a free-market guy. There is another bit of his con.

"To Ease Pain of Trump’s Trade War: $12 Billion in Aid for Farmers"
NYT

First tariffs, then money to keep the voters. I suspect that the money on the international capital market is procured through bonds. And who buys them regularly? China.... they'll collect the interest. Seems like a well-thought-out plan..... as well as the idea of reducing taxes in the US. This deficit should turn out gigantic and perhaps still secure the congress election, but the fiasco will not be covered up until the next presidential election. It is the China decides to buy no more bonds...then the bankruptcy is safe.

This explains a lot about the "new socialist" way of thinking of the REPs.

Have you heard the freakout over at Trump TV over that Democratic congressional, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, candidate from New York who is a democratic socialist and was on tour with Bernie Sanders through the midwest? Trump TV called her views "dangerous ideas".

Here's a few examples what this candidate stands for that Trump TV thinks are "dangerous ideas". I highlighted the ones that to me, sounds crazy to call dangerous.

  • Medicare for all
  • Housing is a human right
  • A federal jobs guarantee
  • gun control / assault weapons ban
  • criminal justice reform / end private prisons
  • immigration justice / abolish ICE
  • solidarity with Puerto Rico
  • Mobilizing against Climate Change
  • Clean Campaign Finance
  • Higher Education for all
  • Women's rights
  • support LGBTQIA+
  • support seniors
  • curb Wall Street gambling / restore Glass Steagall

Fox Business tweeted out a picture of her at a rally with the caption (and yes, she said that) "We will not rest until every person in this country is paid a living wage to live a dignified life." At first I was thinking that Fox Business was endorsing her but then it occured to me that this was supposed to be a warning. I just wonder to whom, because who wouldn't want to earn a wage that would enable you to actually live instead of just scraping by?

And an editor from the Daily Caller went to one of those rallies and she said, quote, "I saw something truly terrifying. I saw how easy it would be, as a parent, to accept the idea that my children deserve healthcare and education."

She doesn't think her kids deserve healthcare and education? That is one bad mother...

The second single-biggest budget item in the US budget, after military spending, is interest payments on the national debt. Since it's automatic and not something congress allocates, it doesn't get much attention. But that budget item will only grow larger

Thanks. I'm sure he has no clue what he's talking about, but a few buzzwords for his fans always work.

Sidenote: You know that China holds the most American government bonds and therefore also has a great influence on the Dollar as the global money. They may also decide to „Make the Euro Great!“. LOL

Her opponent called her "that girl or whatever she is" and got reamed for it.

The Disney take over of Fox is all but assured now that Comcast has dropped out. That should be interesting.

And Trump tries hard with his Jedi mind tricks. “These are not the <insert evidence of obvious scandal/crime/conspiracy> you’re looking for.”

It’s not like we haven’t seen this movie before *sigh*.

I found an interesting statement of items.

Stephanie A. Sarkis Ph.D.

Gaslighting: Recognize Manipulative and Emotionally Abusive People—and Break Free

1 They tell blatant lies.
2 They deny they ever said something, even though you have proof.
3 They use what is near and dear to you as ammunition.
4 They wear you down over time.
5 Their actions do not match their words.
6 They throw in positive reinforcement to confuse you.
7 They know confusion WEAKENS people.
8 They PROJECT.
9 They try to align people against you.
10 They tell you or others that YOU are crazy.
11 THEY TELL YOU EVERYONE ELSE IS A LIAR.

During the Helsinki press conference, Putin was asked if he wanted Trump to win and if he helped with that and Putin answered "Yes, I did." twice. That statement is on video.

The White House has published the official transcript now and they've taken out the part where the reporter asked if Putin wanted Trump to win (they had to since Trump now tweets that Russia is going to meddle in the election to help Democrats - I guess he needs an excuse should the Democrats win control of the house). They also edited the White House videotape and cut that question out.

Russia went even further. In their version, the reporter didn't ask anything.

I'm sure the cast of TBBT would be excited to share their wealth with everybody else. My house being the same as Kaley's. Wouldn't the government own everybody's property if it became socialist?

I’m guessing you mean it’s a vernacular that doesn’t travel as well as I might have hoped? 😀

Maybe I should have said “worry about the disappearing FEMA death camps and JADE HELM” ? Which BTW is now recognised as a Russian government trial balloon prior to the 2016 presidential disinformation campaign.

😀

I gather the cast is pretty good at sharing. Didn't Mayim buy bullet-proof vests for the Israeli army ? Don't the cast contribute to science scholarships at a university ? Wealthy people tend to employ others to provide services and they can buy expensive goods, so money moves around.

I'm trying to count the number of socialist governments I've lived under: at 4 am I think it's four. I remember when water, gas, electricity, coal, railways, national coaches, planes, steel, telephone, milk, bread  and health insurance were to some extent or other nationalised industries or public corporations . Of that list only the latter service remains in government hands. People older than me can remember when the nationalisation took place. It was the folk memory that they were more efficient that stimulated the demand for de-nationalisation as the number of inefficiencies and strikes grew. There was never a question of  nationalising people's own houses. That is the UK. Governments that are or were more socialist, such as China and the USSR, East Germany, Poland and others behind the iron curtain may well have owned all the housing stock I don't recall.I can't see the USA going so far to the left that it buys up everybody's own home. I don't think the USA frowns enough on private enterprise to go socialist. We once had a socialist government that was so anti-business it literally taxed every non-government employer on the number of people he/she employed. Imagine what that did to prices.

Well, FOX News, and FOX  TV stations are not part of the Disney deal.  Also, they have to get rid of the regional sports networks, because of Disney's ownership share of ESPN.
