Probably not now but it was very common in ancient times...Greece, Rome, and it is certainly in the Bible. When the crowd of men comes to Lot's house and asks him to send out his visitors so they can have sex with them, and he offers his two virgin daughters instead is one of the most messed up parts of the Bible for me.

It is extremely difficult to understand the thinking of people back then, but if you try you sometimes can understand why they did the things they did that way.  You don’t have to like it, especially since we were raised with different social norms, but maybe you can understand it.  Think about it also from their point of view, what do you think people back then would think of us after they found out we abort millions of babies each year, I bet they would label us as horrible barbarians and murders, although to us that is just a social norm.  The Bible was written by men, some say with divine guidance, but it was men who put the ink to paper, so it is going to represent the social norms as they see them in that time, which means that they could be different than we have today, so I just suggest we do less judging and more just understanding.

I'm obviously not talking about people who are forced into sexual acts...

Neither am I.  I was referring to Lot's neighbors, not his guests.

If you study Biblical times to any extent you will learn that babies with handicaps or any sort of deformities were left outside to die after birth or abandoned as children to beg in the streets. To me that's worse.

BC can now claim to be home of the  Sarlacc's Pit😂

Quote

The people who first spotted the cave from the helicopter named it Sarlacc's Pit because of its similarity to the lair of the sarlacc, a creature from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

I think you misunderstood me, I’m not judging, I’m just trying to relate something that could be perceived as extreme during our time by people from another time.  Also, I agree about your baby/children example but understand there are still cultures today that treat babies/children with handicaps or any sort of deformities that way.  Finally, there are still some of those bad things that have never changed, such as we still persecute Christians after 2000 years and still murder in the name of religion.

This is interesting. I think it just proves that network TV is under siege.  45 million people watching a show on Neflix is a lot of people.

The thing with Netflix is, it's worldwide. Are these 45 million people all from the US? If you look at ratings, US network TV only counts in markets they broadcast.

But people do have more choices today than they used to when it comes to watching. That's my point.

Broadcast TV viewing has been dropping at about 10% per year since around 2002.  The drop has  increased recently, the last two years have been right around a 17% drop.

Here's another way of looking at it.  In 2007-08, TBBT first season, it had an average demo of 3.26.   If you took the ratings for every first run show, on every network, over the entire year, the average 18-49 demo was 3.27.  So TBBT was right at the average for the season 18-49 demo.

Last year, 2017-18, TBBT 11th season, the show had an average demo of 2.75, a half a point less than the first season.  However, the average show during last year had an 18-49 demo of  1.10.  So TBBT demo was over two and a half times the demo of the average show, a much larger show, ratings wise, even though it was down a half a point, in raw numbers, from it's first season.   BTW, TBBT  is the number one show, outside of sports in both demo and viewers.

This year, the average show is projected to be 0.94, that's  a 15% drop from last year.   TBBT is projected to end the season at 2.1 (although that's based on historical drops, and I strongly suspect that there will be an increase in viewing for the last month, but lets us 2.1)  That would  be a drop of only 6%, and if there is an increase for the last shows, it could even increase year over year.

Subbed in a chemistry class this week. The teacher had this up. TBBT is popular in schools, apparently.

Y'all should see my office (I'm a middle school counselor).  First question the kids and some parents always ask is "Do you like Big Bang Theory?"

when I took a male friend to a world series game because he is a big baseball fan that I was cheating on my boyfriend who hates baseball?  Just because we did the world series does not mean I was interested in him or vise versa. We simply had a mutual interest.

what a great friend! The World Series!  Which teams were playing? #Friendsip

Colorado Rockies and Red Socks.  Coors Field. Rockies got their heinies handed to them. I used to work for the Rockies and earned 2 tickets for one of the games. It was amazing but would have preferred a Red Socks loss. We were ultimately swept...

Ah! Sorry-not sorry! 2007. It was amazing here in New England. Life long Red Sox fan here. Our second World Series sweep in four years!

Someday I would love to see the green monster. I would love to see a Red Sox game but it never works out. They are always sold out when I am around. I do have to say Yankees over Sox. (Only cause of joe girarde a former Colorado player. And Derek Jeter.) But you earned the victory 😏

I agree with you normally but now in this case I have to disagree, I find him the completely opposite of handsome.  Every time I see Sheldon he reminds me of:

They have similarities but look incredibly different. Maybe Sheldon looks a bit like him from the way the show has his hair styled but Jim Parsons doesn't look like him. I feel Jim is the best looking one out of all the guys and graced w/o the Yuck factor--my opinion (And I met him in person, very good looking, great personality which I find attractive)

You met him? OMG. Jealous. Was he a nice guy? He seems like he would just be a sweetheart. Did you meet him when he was doing a play in NY? SO JEALOUS.

I would LOVE to see him on Broadway. I heard that play was amazing. My dream is to see him act in person. I live in AZ which is a long way away, a girl can always hope though.

I am lucky in that aspect, living 2 hours away from NYC That was one of the things I was excited about BBT ending--maybe he'll do more plays in New York--it seems that he's moving back when the show is over.

The theater was small and I was in the fourth row, I could see him so clearly through the whole show. I'm sorry, I should stop, but it was one of the best times.

At least you're in the same country Hope you get to go.

Yes, Jim has pretty eyes but Sheldon’s eyes light up with glee just before he opens his mouth to say something that is usually yuck.

That's just called good acting
