I know you a die hard Jim Fan but winning Awards has nothing do with being a legend either.

My kids loved him in the Muppet Movie. LOL. But seriously, I don't think he sees himself as a legend and won't want anyone else to either. I think he will go back to Broadway, where his heart is. He's got enough money that he doesn't have to work another day in his life is he doesn't want to, but I think that's what he'll do.

I am reminded of Leonard Nimoy, who took his case to the people so to speak, when Star Trek ended and did all kinds of summer stock and regional theater for a few years. Of course, when he got a chance to put the ears back on he did, but that was his way of getting away from it. He played in Sherlock Holmes, Fiddler on the Roof, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, just anything to get away from Spock for awhile.

He's gotten great reviews for his recent Broadway performances.  I think more of that might be on his mind.

My opinion differs from yours. I always cared about Penny as well. That's why they have always been touted as the Big 3.

I saw him (and didn't like him) in Hidden Figures, and heard him (and loved him) in Home. My problem is that instead of seeing Jim as I see Sheldon as...

I do love Bob Newhart...he is a Legend, probably Charleston Heston as well.

Agree! I was watching some season two and three today and it reminded me how funny it was with Penny trying to figure out Sheldon. There was some great scenes with the two of them.

Jim is way to young to be considered a legend, but he might go down that road.

But it's also part of the times we live in that Legends aren't born anymore.

Same with music, does anyone believe that any of today's (or anything from the last decade) will become a classic?

Some of the music is classic already : they play film and TV themes and background music at The Proms.

I don't.

I too, think he is too young to be considered yet . Newhart has many more years over Jim Parsons, plus Jim hasn't had any opportunities to play in Ben-Hur-like roles like Heston. I saw Jim in Boys in the Band and I thought he was incredible. Personally I think he is a legend or at least on his way there. I think it's all a matter of opinion. Reading through the posts, I haven't considered many legends that were mentioned.

I don't.  Don't get me wrong, I think Jim is a great actor.  But Newhart (in both his series) made something very difficult, look very easy (something Judd Hirsch also did in taxi, and Andy Griffith in The Andy Griffith Show among others).  The person who is the calm in the eye of the storm.  The actor who sets everyone else up.  Those people don't get many nomination or awards.  It's the quirky character that usually gets the awards.   Those three I mentioned got a total of five Emmy nominations, and one win, for their shows, and they are and were among some of the most respected actors on TV.    

...where as Jim was able to make an infuriating, unlikable character be liked by many. The show wouldn't have had such high ratings if one of the main characters was disliked. I do love Newhart but my opinion Jim is up there with him. I feel saying that 'quirky' characters are the ones that receive awards and not the actors who play characters that are the 'calm in the eye of the storm' is just a loose statement.  Jim was well-deserved. My opinion.

I had a weird dream last night that I was at a museum exhibit of TBBT props and costumes, etc.

I think it's because I'm making plans to go to Indianapolis to the Star Trek exhibition. I want a picture sitting in the captain's chair. It would be great if I could get a picture someday sitting in Sheldon's spot.

Nope! Not yet. Jim is quite good, but he has only has one show to his credit at this time. Johnny has been a star much longer than Jim, since he was on Roseanne as well! At this time, Johnny is closer to Bob Newhart than Jim. That's just my opinion! You need more than one successful credit to your name to be considered in same circles as Newhart, Griffith, Ron Howard and so forth! In your opinion Jim is there and that's fine, but I'm just giving my opinion!

For all we know, he could be a one hit  wonder. Like Clayton Moore, The Lone Ranger, did nothing worth remembering after it went off the air. Johnny hit lightening twice with Roseanne and TBBT. Kaley's been in three TV shows, Charmed, TBBT and Eight Simple Rules. Jim only has one. Time will tell about Jim!

I have no partícula opinion on where Jim stands.  Obviously the industry thinks highly of him.   his Big Bang stuff Is great but his other ( non comedic movie) roles (so far) could have been played by a hundred other actors perhaps better.  His stage roles have been stellar (from the short clips I have seen).  As far as Bob Newhart goes, he has been in several things but his characters are all somewhat the same.  What they all have in common is how self effacing and  likeable they are (more Johnny’s iconic roles) - something Sheldon s not (to me).  I am curious to see if Jim can carry off a comedic role that doesn’t make me want to throw a shoe at hm or isn’t asexual.

So Mayim deserves it even more then? She was the title character on one show and now a main character in TBBT.

No, I would say either Johnny with his two big hit shows, or Kaley as a main character in three different shows for TV!

Actually, if we are going to toss around the word legendary, I think Mayim fits that better than Jim.  As you said, she was the main/title character in a sitcom, starred in another very short-lived comedy (sorry, I can't remember the name) and had a central role in a notable movie (Beaches).  Raj even mentioned her on an early episode of TBBT (was it the Physics Bowl episode???) years before Amy made her first appearance.

Both Blossom and Beaches are kinda cult classics in the respective demographics so that's definitely score for Mayim!
