No one on the Big Bang Theory qualifies as a legend yet and I doubt if any of them ever will. Again, to me they are all perfectly adequate sitcom actors as I see it but none of them are great truly actors. They've all been very lucky in getting parts that suited them and that's that. As you said, she was the main/title character in a sitcom, starred in another very short-lived comedy (sorry, I can't remember the name) and had a central role in a notable movie (Beaches). Raj even mentioned her on an early episode of TBBT (was it the Physics Bowl episode???) years before Amy made her first appearance. Oh well, to each their own! But, I disagree! She was the title character on one show and now a main character in TBBT. Blossom was only mediocrely popular at most. it only had 1 Season in the Top 30 and the best it did was 27th. You are contradicting yourself No, if you read earlier posts, Chuck said Parsons hasn't been around long enough so I just countered and said I believe 12 years is long enough. My reasoning is stated in previous posts. I never said Cryer or anyone else should be legend just because he was in a series for 12 years. Parsons has won awards and his work elsewhere excels, in my opinion.

Not very well regarded or highly rated when it was on, and mostly remembered by a small group of people.

The show wouldn't have had such high ratings if one of the main characters was disliked. I liked him early in the run, as the writers had him more of an innocent, than unlikeable. It's only after they started making him aware of what he was doing, and he kept doing it, did he become unlikeable for me. The big draw, for me, was the differences between his innocent reactions and the reactions of the others, who didn't get he really didn't understand what he was doing, socially. 15 hours ago, shell said: The show wouldn't have had such high ratings if one of the main characters was disliked. And that is based on, what exactly? Perhaps you can point out what exactly the rating would have been if he had been unlikeable. 15 hours ago, shell said: I do love Newhart but my opinion Jim is up there with him. I feel saying that 'quirky' characters are the ones that receive awards and not the actors who play characters that are the 'calm in the eye of the storm' is just a loose statement. How about we tighten it up then. Lets see, Starting in 1965, when the comedy and drama awards were separated Don Adams, Maxwell Smart Get Smart 3 times Jack Klugman/Tony Randall Oscar Madison/Felix Unger Odd Couple 3 awards. Carroll O'Conner Archie Bunker All in the Family 4 awards Jack Albertson Ed Brown Chico and the Man Alan Alda Hawkeye Pierce MASH 2 Awards Richard Mulligan Bert Campbell/Dr Harry Weston Soap/Empty Nest Robert Guillaume Benson DuBois Benson John Ritter Jack Tripper Three's Company Craig T Nelson Hayden Fox Coach Micheal J Fox Alex Keaton Family Ties 3 Awards Ted Danson Sam Malone Cheers Kelsey Grammar Fraiser Cane Fraiser 4 awards John Lithgow Dick Solomon Third Rock From the Sun 3 Awards Alec Baldwin Jack Donaghy 30 Rock 2 Awards Tony Shalhoub Adrian Monk Monk 2 Awards Jim Parsons Sheldon Cooper The Big Bang Theory 4 awards Jeffrey Tambor Maura Pfefferman Transparent 2 awards. That's 39 out of the fifty years it was awarded from 1965 to 2015. The list here are the obvious ones, and there could be ten more, but that may get into a discussion of what exactly is quirky. The list for best supporting actor is even more loaded towards quirky and includes such actors as Don Knotts (with five awards), John Larroquette with four (all consecutive and he refused to be put up for any more awards, after the fourth) five actors with three, and eight with two. And, again, only the obvious ones, there cold be another 4 quirky characters. 15 hours ago, shell said: Jim was well-deserved. My opinion. Again, I'm not saying Jim didn't deserve the award, an actor still has to play the role. But, they are, in comedy, far more likely to be awarded to a quirky or oddball character than a calm eye of the storm type character. But, in my opinion, awards are overrated. Does anyone really think that Jon Cryer deserved his Emmy for acting the year he won, or was it just pity due to the circumstances? Does anyone really think that Jon Cryer deserved his Emmy for acting the year he won, or was it just pity due to the circumstances? Okay, I'm not going to spend hours to research an answer for a forum. I would also say awards do not mean a whole lot to me but they hold some meaning, especially if an actor is awarded multiple times.. Actors usually get quirky roles because they're good actors. I remember Johnny Galecki saying, I think it was an interview with King was, 'he feels Jim Parsons is a genius, he could never do what he does.' Yes, Judd Hirsch in Taxi was a great actor but so was Danny Devito and Christopher Lloyd,Andy Kauffman and so on. Quirky takes a lot of work and dedication from the actor. 12 hours ago, Die Zimtzicke said: He is a legend for Pretty in Pink if anything. That's another cult classic.
