My youngest daughter and I are in tears. We went to Notre Dame twice. To think of it burning down breaks our hearts. So much history lost.

The Notre dame is an incredible building with plenty of cultural significance, I hope it can be saved.

Latest news have been that they have the fire under control to the point that the structure won't collapse. Thank goodness. I've been following the news for a couple hours and I probably couldn't sleep tonight without a bit of good news. Let's hope nothing terrible happens during the night. Those fire fighters are doing an incredible job.

I do realize the seriousness of the damage to the Notre Dame cathedral, and the loss to history in general, but even with that I can’t resist this:

Somebody should be sued for such negligence.

I was impressed by the crowds who were singing.

Sure is. Hence what was supposed to be a humorous answer, somewhat hidden by the merger with a serious one. I wish there was a way of turning that function off. I hadn't left enough time between the posts for the site to keep the second one separate.

Yes, must be. There was no electric power generation or wiring in the 12th century.  The telegraph was invented in the 1830s and other practical uses followed.

Quote

One of the first major breakthroughs in electricity occurred in 1831, when British scientist Michael Faraday discovered the basic principles of electricity generation.[2] Building on the experiments of Franklin and others, he observed that he could create or “induce” electric current by moving magnets inside coils of copper wire. The discovery of electromagnetic induction revolutionized how we use energy. In fact, Faraday’s process is used in modern power production, although today’s power plants produce much stronger currents on a much larger scale than Faraday’s hand-held device.

So.

I’m seeing Avengers: Endgame in around 3 hours time. Will it be better than S12.23 & S12.24? Who can tell. But it’s a high bar.

edit: it’s awesome.
