The Wild, True Story That Inspired Tonight's Big Bang Theory

Sheldon and Amy's honeymoon kicked off The Big Bang Theory's final season, but it was the second episode of the week—titled "The Wedding Gift Wormhole"—that brought real fun for the couple.

Leonard and Penny give "the perfect wedding gift" to Sheldon and Amy. It's a sweet gesture, but there's one problem: The newly marrieds have no clue what it is. The gift, a crystal wand, looks expensive but has no obvious purpose. Naturally, Amy wonders if it's a marital aid. (God, I'm going to miss this show next year.)

Of course, it'd be inappropriate to ask Leonard and Penny what the gift actually is...but Sheldon is the king of inappropriate questions. You'd think he could have solved this in minutes. Maybe married life has changed him after all? Instead, while Amy and Sheldon are in bed one night, they come to the conclusion that the gift is simply a clue about their actual gift, which they'll find by going on a scavenger hunt.

Turns out, the idea for this episode was actually born out of the same exact gift that executive producer Steve Holland received from the show's visual effects supervisor. "The gift we got is the same gift you see in the episode," Holland says. "It is a wand. The joke was when we got it, we didn't quite know what it was. We had it it the writers' room for years and we'd joke about it, so we decided to turn that into an episode where Sheldon and Amy get the wedding gift that they don't know what it is."

To this day, Holland doesn't even know if the wand is expensive or worth anything. "I just know it's not a marital aid," he jokes.

By the episode's end, we learn the wand actually belonged to Raj, who gave it as a wedding gift to Bernadette and Howard, who then gave it to Penny and Leonard, who then gave it to Shamy. The moral of this story? They all need better friends. If Raj does get married this season, he better register for some expensive stuff—and hope he doesn't get a random hand-me-down.

Sheldon would have taken a picture and used google image within half an hour, so I didn't like that part of the show, although I do hope the gift comes back to Raj when he marries, if he does, and I hope he does. Seeing Raj's father is always a treat and if he marries I hope we see Mom again, too.

I think Denise is hilarious with Stuart and I think the fact that she takes his prepping for their date in good humor bodes well for the relationship, and as usual Howard and Bernie's reactions to every thing around them are priceless.

I like Denise, her and Stuart are interesting together and shy Stuart is much better than creepy Stuart.  I hope we see more of them together, their relationship is already better than anything Raj has done lately, and the innocence of it is funny.

This plot reminded me so much of the episode that Howard and the gang tortured Sheldon with that card trick Howard was performing only this time it was Shamy who were being tricked by Howard and Lenny.

Lenny had basically no story this episode, they were just support for the Shamy story, at least Howard and Bernadette were part of the Stuart and Denise, and Howard part of the Shamy story, and Raj had his own plot, I wonder how much time Johnny and Kaley really had in this episode, I bet they made $200,000 a minute tonight.

I am quite relieved to see that the idea of an arranged marriage was quite different than what that normally means since so many viewers here in the states on various pages, sites, etc. seemed hostile to that concept. Raj's dad pointed out that he couldn't just call someone and arrange for Raj to marry their daughter. He apparently set him up, though, which is different. Setting someone up with a date hoping they will hit it off with that person is a more familiar concept here.

I don't get why this is a takeaway anymore. They primarily use LP as fodder for Sheldon to bounce off. Most of their peak storylines were in S6. Now we can not like this. But I Don't see Lenny getting any major story to the end of the show. They have been supporting roles forever now.

It's what Hindus and Sikhs ( the ones I know at least) do on this side of the pond too. It's a lot like setting up friends for a blind date but with a bit more formality. Families tend to consider the individuals' characteristics and likely compatability rather like the computer that 'spit out Amy Farrah Fowler' for Sheldon. Then they go on dates knowing what it's all about.

Just watched it. More smoother in flow than the last one. I thought it was funny. I really enjoyed Stuart and Denise. They are cute and funny together. Stuart was hilarous in this one. Orange Tan was a nice touch. Enjoyed seeing the comic book store.

Lenny wedding gift basically being the main story arch. And Was basically hijacked by Shamy. And Lenny were basically used as a mirror to Shamy. Leonard and Penny had some funny dialogue. But other than that, they were just cannon fodder. Feels like Leonard and Penny are just props to enhance Sheldon and Amy. They may as well bend over, and have Shamy sit on them LOL.

As for Raj arranged wedding. I don't mind it. Raj is clearly failing with American Woman. I know back in Season 1 The Grasshopper Experiment. His parents forced him to meet an indian girl. Who his parents set him up with. Who ended up leaving with Sheldon. So I guess Raj has evolved some what.

IT is funny this show has really aged. I Think they are going to have to start shaking things up. Hence I Would like Denise to be a recurring character. Maybe new locations. It is all become very coupling. Rules of Engagementish. Alot of the main characters like Leonard and Sheldon. Are married and content now. So be interesting where they head now.

Knowing the back story makes the episode more interesting.

For me this episode was eclipsed by the YS one.

Well it was a okay episode, but could of been much better, i was disappointed that  Leonard & Penny had very little screen time i think probably less two minutes total. The Shamy story felt like a rehash . but it was funny to find out that basically none of the couples liked what was originally Raj's gift. It was nice to see Stuart and Denise actually going somewhere. As for Raj i'm surprised the writers went down the arranged marriage route with him, but we'll have to see how that goes. A few things i didn't like about the episode first like i've already mentioned lack of any Lenny plot or Lenny in general. Also i seriously doubt that Leonard & Penny would call Sheldon & Amy the perfect couple. Didnt like Sheldon implying that Leonard & Penny are simple, i know it was a joke but it didn't work. Also could of done without a Shamy bed scene i really hope we aren't going to be subjected to one every episode. Anyway two down twentwo to go still waiting for the supposedly greatest season ever to start.

I think "the perfect couple" remark was intended to be sarcastic. As we saw, if it was, then the meaning of the comment went over their heads. Shamy don't understand sarcasm, especially Sheldon. My favorite part was Stuart's prep for his date. If it could go wrong, then it did go wrong. Would have loved to see Denise's reaction to Stuart's appearance!

It was a nice episode. My highlights were Bert and Penny's reaction to Raj's marriage announcement.

The Shamy plot was quite amusing, but I didn't like its ending.

I so wish Lenny were on more, especially Penny. I think Bert got about the same amount of screen time as she did in this one.

The Stuart plot was cute. Although the tan thing reminded me of the (there hilarious) Friends plot with Ross' tan fail.

I felt sad for Raj. This plot starting this way makes me feel the arranged marriage is not going to be it for him.

Oh, and Raj got it wrong. He is the forgetable one...

I hope they use Denise to the end of the show, actually I would like it if in the second half of the season we find out that Denise and Stuart ran off to Las Vegas and got married.  Stuart could say that he was inspired by Lenny’s marriage and they seem to be doing fine.
