Isn't it normal everywhere to get married where there's most family, especially the bride's, unless her church is elsewhere ? I wonder if we'll really see India, or whether the plane with the gang on gets held up and we only ever see the couple again by Skype ?

They definitely don't have to go shoot in actual India, it's TV, they just have to make sets like hotel rooms, the wedding venue, maybe a plane.

True. At the Hindu weddings I've been to the tent and 'the 'fire' and everything else have all been indoors in something like a church hall or a local community centre. I see no reason they can't do it in a studio.

In England they have the official ceremony that they call 'court marriage' at the registrar's - similar to the place Shamy and Howardette went to for a first attempt - and the religious one with all the clothes and singing and dancing and food some weeks later.  At that one the priest reads out a speech in English saying something to the effect that it's an arranged marriage and he's going to ask the couple to confirm their consent. They then change to Hindi and it all goes on with nobody but those three taking any notice.  Everybody else wanders round the hall talking and partaking of char ( and later something stronger ) and food.

Like so many of these so-called special days, Valentin's day is only a successful invention of the American advertising industry.

On this side of the pond we used to have a tradition of anonymously sending tokens of love, accompanied by a slushy poem, to someone of the opposite sex whom we fancied. I daresay some people still do. Eventually the greetings card companies took it over, as they tend to do. The point is, if you get one you're not supposed to know who sent it ! There are some pubs here and there who might  drum up some extra business by holding  Valentine's evenings with names for the meals such as those Raj thought up for Stuart's party for those who are interested. I don't know anybody who'd  bother with that sort of thing if it was midweek. If a couple went  together, as our gang expect  to do with their S.O.s, they'd know who the valentine was anyway. Beats me.

Whether Rajanu's parents have even heard of St Valentine I wouldn't like to speculate.

Teller not speaking in the magic act is part of the comedy in their act.

Yes, but what I meant was his own personality is not as well known. I didn't know how much patience he had with amateur magicians. Now I think we do. I wonder if he came up with this idea or they came up with it because of him. Either idea is possible, I guess.

Yes, but it's fun to speculate on what we will see.

I've never seen Teller's act.  His chance to bond with Howard I'd imagine was too good for the writers to pass up. The irony of getting on with other people's parents and in-law's is a running gag on TBBT anyway. Penny complained when Beverly bonded better with Amy and Howard didn't like it when Sheldon bonded with Mike Rostenkowski.

Sheldon bonded better with Beverly as well.

An important source of humor for the show was always their dealing with the 'outside' world of non-physicists, women, university administrators, public officials, etc.  Gradually bringing in new characters keeps this theme fresher than it might otherwise have been.  Raj's various girlfriends, various relatives and visiting scientists.  So, I like the shot in the arm of Amy's parents.

Oh I agree, the show has continued to introduce memorable characters that have added to the show's value so to speak and Amy's parents are among them.  You know I am a die-hard Amy fan (its obvious with my postings) and that I have wanted to learn about her parents pretty much since I joined this forum back in Season 9.

I was just pointing out that personally out of the appearances of Mr and Mrs Fowler so far my favourite is still the Season 11 finale and that the appearances since then haven't for me personally hit those same heights.  Part of that is probably down to the 'newness' factor, the first time you meet a character is always different and has that kind of buzz or prestige to it, another is that I just think the material for them hasn't been as good (not the actors fault, they can only work with what they are given).

Apparently Valentine's is quite a thing with a certain class of Indians and the Hindu hardliners in charge now don't like it.

The Howard and Larry stuff was only  funny if you were aware cof Penn and Teller. I don't think TBBT usually mixes the story and RL like that.

With that said, the funniest parts was Sheldon and Mrs Fowler bonding.

Funny, but also OOC for both of them. Mrs F was a bracingly obnoxious character and already they've softened her. And S telling A he wanted to bond with her parents because he loved her was just puke. Uxorious Sheldon is another, far less amusing, character of the same name.

Penny has been made unbelievably passive. When L & P were having a fairly intense discussion and Amy barged in with her own complaints, why couldn't P just say "Not now, Amy" as any normal person would? And I don't like that she's so unaware that she doesn't realise that when Raj tried to have sex with her when she was too drunk to consent, that was attempted rape. IMO when Raj phoned her from the hotel she should have reminded him of his premature ejaculation on that occasion. That should have set him up nicely for the night.

On the positive side, apparently we're going to know R & Anu are a couple without seeing them in bed together.

Well, they did show them headed to take a shower together. Take that as you will about them having coitus!

Yes I meant maybe TBBT can let us know they are having sex without having to show them in bed together. Most TV programmes and films can manage that.

I forgot last night was a repeat and wound up rewatching this. This one is why I like Raj and Anu. They actually talked about their problems and while most of it was off screen, enough of it was on screen to show me how they work through issues.

I was also reminded of how much I disliked Penny in this ep...her telling her friends that the first time with Leonard was nothing to write home about and telling him not to beat himself up about it. And I didn't like Raj going to her for advice. I just didn't like her at all in this ep.

Yes, that was my impression, also.   Raj's character has been a dull, broken record, but I thought this episode put him back on the right track.

And what a pleasure it is to see Bates and Teller.  We really didn't need the third thread about Leonard and Penny.

Two is usually enough!
