The Inspiration Deprivation
Airs Thursday, April 18 at 8/7c on CBS

The concept of what it would mean for women everywhere if Amy were to win a Nobel Prize causes Amy to have a meltdown. Also, Koothrappali and Wolowitz try to relive the good old days after Wolowitz buys a scooter that looks like the one he had years ago.

Oscar-winning actress Regina King returns as Janine in the episode.

Amy looks to be at various stages of distress in the photos. Why would she have a meltdown ? What could she think her winning a Nobel Prize would 'mean for women everywhere' in a way that would upset her ? Women from all over the world have won them. She wouldn't be the first to win it with someone else, nor even the first to win it with a husband. I'm puzzled. Can anyone who saw the taping, or knows someone who did, explain ?

I would think that this is self-explanatory for most people. There were only 3 women winning the Nobel prize in physics vs. 207 men. Across all categories there were only 52 women winning vs. 856 men. Do the maths. The discrepancy is abysmal.

Why would it upset Amy to get the prize though ? It doesn't explain anything to me, I'm afraid I'd have thought she'd think it was good for a woman to win a prize. I still don't get it.

It would upset her to NOT get it. Because women have gotten so few that her losing makes it a bigger deal.

Thanks. I was going by the blurb above which says 'The concept of what it would mean for women everywhere if Amy were to win a Nobel Prize causes Amy to have a meltdown. '

If Amy were to win it would be huge cause so few women have won the Nobel in physics. Like, she might not be the first to win but with only 3 women getting it prior the next one will be a big deal again. And it will probably always be a big deal until women winning will be normal instead of the exception.

But why is she distressed about winning ? Or is she not distressed ? Does 'meltdown' mean something else and I'm misinterpreting the photos ?

It's the uncertainty over winning. Some people just overthink things and that can drive them a bit bonkers.

I see. Thanks. Not like Amy, but the enormity of it could get to even her, I daresay. Her reverse-tiara-reaction last night  showed something of what she thought.

We know now she won't be buying the comic book store with her winnings. I wonder what her plans are ? If they differ from Sheldon's that could be fun.

That means they'll have to be house-hunting now. I suppose that could be what the final episode's about. You'd think they'd be more organised and find the house first.

Not positive but I think so too! Gotta make room for growing family. Perhaps with a little mother in law apartment attached so Mary can come visit lil Elliot Cooper as often as she wants 👨‍👩‍👧

I don't know if she is pregnant. Just a suspicion. Guess we will find out soon enough.

The Big Bang Theory Season 12, Episode 19 Recap: Amy Is Feeling the Pressure of the Nobel

Nobel Watch 2019 continued on The Big Bang Theory this week as Amy and Sheldon were forced to do damage control following their outburst (well, Amy's) in front of laureates, peers, and imposters (Pemberton and Campbell, for those keeping track). It's no Game of Thrones cliffhanger, but it'll do, especially since we're down to the last five episodes. Shamy has to win the Nobel eventually, right?

If it's going to happen, President Siebert and Ms. Davis (Oscar winner Regina King, praise be) tell Sheldon and Amy that they're going to have to run a near flawless campaign the rest of the way. That means keeping their mouth shut and not throwing accusations at anyone. "The science world is a small community. People talk," Siebert says. The only thing to do is lay low and cancel all further speaking engagements.

Siebert does not say that. Note there are no speech marks around the sentence. He does not use such appalling English. Journalists should not do so either.

I would not rate it okay or bad but just a waste of time. There were not enough funny moments to make up for sitting through the commercials. 

Amy's discomfort would have made more sense to me if the prize was in Neuroscience.

I watched the episode twice fast forwarding on my DVR. I fast forwarded through the commercials the first time and the episode itself the second time. Can’t figure which way I enjoyed more. Although the half hour had a better flow the second time
