Yes  She did put up with alot of crap from him over the years. All those slut shaming and promiscuity insults got to be too much. And why they never had Leonard give it back to him after they were engaged/married is beyond me.  T

Sheldon was NOT the only one who came up with slut jokes.

Yeah in the later seasons. That's thanks to the Sheldon/Shamy friendly useless writers!

Later seasons? The majority of the show! From five on for sure.

Who else gave Penny the slut jokes?  Howard?  Never heard him say anything like that to Penny after he married Bernadette.  Raj?  Maybe a little but only to remind himself that Penny rejected him after their "naked" night.  But, Sheldon was another story.  He kept it up right to the end in the plane when P&L revealed to him that she was pregnant.

Totally true. As I said, this was due to the Sheldon loving writers.

Agree.

Bernie- 'just figured your prom dress was in the corner of some barn'

Penny 'What do you think I was?'

Amy- ''easy'

Even Penny admitted it 'Let's drive somewhere no one will know me- we may have to drive to another town

Penny 'I feel like Dr, Jeckle and Mrs. Ho'

Amy- --'considering how trampy you get'...list goes on...

Penny and Sheldon got along so good because their relationship was based on honesty. Penny will admit she was easy. She recalled a time when she was in High school and it was of her taking a home pregnancy kit. Hate to tell you Penny didn't care if Sheldon made fun of her past because she knew it was true.

Oh, that list could go on for a LONG time.

Wasn't disagreeing with the lines, just your opinions!

There is absolutely no evidence that what Sheldon said bothered Penny any more than what anyone else said. I agree though that Penny and Sheldon were honest with each other if that's the opinion you were disagreeing with. Sheldon couldn't lie well if he tried and Penny hardly ever bothered to try.

however, what I meant was that the other guys did not continue to slut shame her after they were married but Sheldon continued to do so. The girls were only teasing her in jest. I know everyone says Sheldon does not mean it but he does not realize the harm he does with his insults until the last scene in his Nobel speech.

other characters doing the same thing Sheldon did is considered 'jesting' . (You can say jest but they too were also getting their jabs in)

They could have ended their friendship anytime they wanted but something about the guy kept them from doing so. I'm not even sure about the slut shaming you talk about,  I can't remember any...he liked to pick on her drinking just as everyone else also did... I don't believe Penny was at all harmed when Sheldon was honest with her, she always brushed it off. She knew who she was and was fine with. Even when she talked about doing it with Leonard when they were married she said she liked to fantasize about other guys...

In some areas, Sheldon is a complete moron. He's always opening his mouth and saying things that are hurtful without caring the pain he's causing. Ignorance is no excuse.

When I said in jest it was from the girls and not mean spirited. However, when Sheldon said it he was insulting and he did it more than the others. Penny took it like they all did.......they tolerated him and exclaimed "Sheldon is only being Sheldon" I also can recall an episode when Sheldon wanted to work with Bert on a geology project but did not want anyone else to know about it because it would damage his reputation. So he goes to Penny to ask for advice since she had a "checkered past" and knew how to overcome a bad reputation. I don't think she let this one past when Sheldon referred to her promiscuousness as a figure of speech and she replied " I have a figure of speech that you can go do to yourself"  So, after  awhile she got tired of the insults. I think the fantasy about other guys was in the last episode on the plane and was only injected into the scene as a joke.

you are going to see it the way you want just as I will.

I don't believe Sheldon was mean-spirited when saying those things to Penny just as the girls weren't.  And I believe every character in the show had just as many insults for each other as he did. And I don't believe Sheldon saying Penny had a checkered past, (the only one you could come up with) is as bad as saying Sheldon 'slut-shamed' her. He never used the word slut as you do. And I really don't believe she was 'kidding' about fantasizing about the other guy--she was pretty proud of herself.  In another episode she had no problem throwing Leonard under the bus for a chance to meet Joe Manganiello in the D & D game.

At first I thought Sheldon was a funny, quirky guy and I loved his banter with Penny in the early episodes, but after 12 seasons his insults, condesencion, and obnoxiousness just became tiresome to hear.  I guess we just see things differently with Sheldon but everyone is entitled to their opinion.  Ciao for now

Yes, that's true we are and  I'll admit the last one or two seasons weren't as funny and his insults got old as all the others' insults did, too. And I'm sure that was one of the reasons why the show ended. I miss the show, but it was time. It really wasn't good anymore.

Later.

12 seasons? Penny became friends with Sheldon sooner than that. She's the one who insisted he could continue to live with her and Leonard after they married. She calmed him down at his infamous birthday party. She hung out with him and fed him Leonard's dinner when she didn't want to watch Leonard doing science. There were a few things Sheldon said that she didn't like and let him know it, but for the most part, through the last few seasons she was Sheldon's friend. If Sheldon wasn't always bothering her i will never understand why people are universally bothered by him.

True, but the insults continued till the end. That bit at the birthday party was not her place. As Sheldon's girlfriend, it was up to Amy to calm him down. Just my opinion!

TRUE! In reality, Sheldon would have never came back from the North Pole or the guys wouldn't have went with him in the first place!

But Penny is his close, good friend and knows how to calm him down. It's not like Amy didn't care about Sheldon. Penny took it upon herself to handle that. She chose to check on him, just like she chose, after her marriage, to allow him to keep living there. I do not think she should have become his close friend. But that doesn't change the fact that she did. We can say every day for the rest of our lives that certain things should not have been done, but they WERE done and it's time to accept that. It's over and it is what it is.
