RoRo Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I have waited for an Amy makeover! wish it had been done seasons ago BUT the episode was very good!
MookiStar Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 watching it now apparently there is a show afterwards with some of the cast on it discussing the final episode
Sah Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I hated the first part. Just hated it. They couldn't have Sheldon be sweet to his wife when she got a makeover? Being happy to hit him? I thought it was horrible.
bfm Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 First I have to say I liked the "previously", even though it took time. I think it was wonderfully edited and it made me excited, got me in the right mood for the finale. I think it's good they showed the two episodes together, because I felt this one wasn't very strong. The idea of The Change Constant was very good as an insight, IMO, and it was a great tribute that this understanding came to Sheldon from Penny, that they had it in The Cheesecake Factory and that it showed the appreciation they came to have from one another. But something about the execution felt off. I think it was something in the way the plot and the text were crafted. It felt more like a draft, something between an outline and a finished product. Penny in the elevator was a great moment! And the slap and the dialogue revolving it Amy's makeover plot felt umm IDK, that it lacked substance. It was quite out of the blue and I didn't quite "buy" neither her sadness about her looks nor her excitement later. I think it's because it wasn't "built" in the story before. It's characteristic of this show, they don't plan and so sometimes things happen out of the blue and even if they have potential they end up not quite "there". There could have beem more taken out of this, and a better treatment of the issue of looks for women and for a woman like Amy. That being said, I liked that Raj got a moment to shine and truly help Amy. I was surprised the Nobel announcement was so early. I do get Sheldon's reaction but as in The Maternal Conclusion I get it when I think more deeply about Sheldon's issues. I imagine many viewers wouldn't, and so I wish they had shown his distress a bit better. If we'd have seen how truly distressed he was by the changes it might have been easier to understand his reaction to Amy. Nice conversation about how they enable many of Sheldon's hurtful behaviors, which is not good for them and for him as well. It reminded me a lot of a discussion we had here a year or two ago and some other shortet discussions of the same nature. I was quite surprised when the episode ended, it felt like it only started. djsurrey Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I enjoyed the episode. Some suspension of disbelief was required. Nothing new there.
bfm Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Quote Now, let me preface this by saying that overall I think Big Bang's finale was one of the best series sendoffs ever. If you want me to grade it, I give it a solid A. But this particular storyline—as well as one later in the episode—gives me some pause. I'm all for Amy wanting to do something special for herself, but she's always been a very confident woman, especially when it comes to her appearance. She's worn those orthopedic shoes like someone proud to know she's not ruining her back. She pulls off a cardigan and a corduroy skirt better than I ever could. And she's certainly seen herself in pictures before. So this whole "I look so frumpy" narrative seems a little off for me. Some upgrades? Sure! But a makeover worthy of Queer Eye? I don't know. https://www.glamour.com/story/the-big-bang-theory-season-12-series-finale-recap?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=onsite-share&utm_brand=glamour&utm_social-type=earned I totally agree with Radloff on this

I don't mind Amy getting a makeover as such but the reason just came out of nowhere. Why is she suddenly bothered by looking "frumpy"?!? They could have just made it a spur of the moment thing cause the Nobel business got to her head or whatever and then after Raj worked his magic she could have just ended up liking it. I mean, the hair is cute on her so why not? I would have dialled back the outfit a bit and kept it more Amy'ish but then again it's coming from Raj so that makes sense. So yeah, mixed bag here. Amy's the 'utility' model, not the 'sporting' model - and has always been proud of it. Edited May 17, 2019 by Capt. Hilts

I know that's what was said in the scene but it didn't feel true to her character. Like she never saw herself on a picture or what? Come on! She knows her style and didn't care what people said - that was always great about her. I said before: I'm not totally against the makeover and I'm fine with the result but the reason how it came about felt not quite right. SRAM Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Maybe Amy’s feelings about her looks had something to do that she was a celebrity, that scene in front of the apartment building seemed to imply that they were both now celebrities. I thought in the bathroom that the pictures she was taking about were the ones taken at the apartment building front door and she didn’t like them. If you equate Amy’s new celebrity status to one of a celebrity actor, we all know they want to look good and not look frumpy in front of the cameras. Just a thought. It is one thing to be in a few photos and another to be in photos that many people will actually pay attention to.
Strawberry PopTart Fan Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 I loved Amy's make-over. She's a beautiful woman who dressed like an old frump but admitted on a few occasions that she wanted to be a princess. She loved her tiara. Why shouldn't she look her best? Her husband looked great in his beautiful formal attire. They made a very lovely couple, imo. Should she have showed up to receive her award in her layered sweater and orthopedic shoe look? I don't think so. I see nothing wrong with trying to look our best, both men and women. I really enjoyed that part of the episode! Besides, she dressed differently when she was going out with Dave. They just never talked about it. But she was wearing a really cute dress and heels and hose when Sheldon saw her kiss Dave. And she dressed up a bit when she knew Sheldon was going to give her sex as a birthday present. She seems to have always dressed up a bit when she felt something special was going on, when a new phase of her life was starting and becoming a media target counts for that. They never had her talk about it before, but they should have, and definitely should have had her talk more this time.

I'm guessing that the writers just wanted her to stand her ground with Sheldon. She told him her opinion on her looks and that's the way it was going to be. Sheldon of course blames Penny for being a bad influence.
shell Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 I just have to bring up another point to this episode, didn't it look like Johnny really hit Jim? They did a great job--very convincing
