actually, I just reconnected my VCR... and have been watching some good "oldies", such as Taxi Driver, Clockwork Orange and Raising Arizona. Although, those are borrowed from my local library.

My personal cassette collection, however, is a little more PG rated. Actually, that's why I have them... specifically for when my friends pop on by and bring their little kibblets. Heck, if I find the right girl, they (along with the old toys I kept, such as Lego/Constructs/Playmobile) will see the light of day again.

I have a VCR player too, it's packed away but it's there. Just incase. Have some cassettes as well. Why is it that tapes, cassettes and vinyl inspire more love than discs?

Or maybe I should be blue raying now ...I have a PS3 :icon_cheesygrin:

@FriendComputer- Ever notice how even though they say DVD's are so much better than VCR tapes they seem to have more problems? There have been so many DVD's I've purchased and had to return because they were skipping, sound didn't work, etc. My VCR tapes work better than my DVD's so my VCR player is still out waiting to rescue me! LOL!!!:icon_lol::icon_lol:

We all had piles of them, I would bet!

-VHS tapes I mean.

So, what happened your collection of VHS tapes??? Did you throw them away, sell them, or keep them, when the DVD era started???

Also, if you still have your VHS tapes, do you ever watch them?

No, I think this is highly interesting topic!

Personally speaking, I have only few tapes left. Just some old live concert tapes, and some movies. And a few start trek tv series tapes.

-Most other tapes i just threw away to garbage.

-Only one VHS I still watch, is my T'pau live at hammersmith tape. it rocks!

-of course, I do have my home videos, a pile of them, and I still record my own videocamera tapings onto VHS.

I have some of them yes...I mostly just use them to transfer anything I liked that I can never acquire on DVD...I have a VCR/DVD combo player & recorder (both formats play and record) so whatever I've found on my VHS tapes that I've liked enough, I've transferred to DVD. :)

Guest I'm not dead Cheryl

I thought I still had them at my parents house, but visiting last week I found out my sister threw all my VHS tapes away :( I had home videos with my friends from when I was a kid and stuff that is not on digital format anymore :(

Really, I want to kill her. She should have at least asked me!

I still have a bunch of tapes. The ones I really love are my 1990s recordings of episodes of "History's Mysteries." I miss when the History Channel showed history programs...

I did something of a purge of some of my belongings back in early 2009 after I got laid off and had a lot of time on my hands. I uploaded a bunch of music CDs where I only liked one or two songs, or they were given to me by someone, etc., then I gave the actual discs to Goodwill, along with a bunch of old VHS tapes that had taped TV shows (X-Files and maybe some ST:TNG) and maybe a few movies. I have all the X-Files on DVD now and I hadn't watched the TNG tapes since I got into TXF. I kept a few tapes and I've used them to tape things like David Duchovny on talk shows, etc., or to record the occasional TV show if I have to be out, since I don't have DVR.

And it's a good thing I kept some of these old VHS tapes because I've used them this season to record the new Big Bang episodes. I had rehearsal the last 2 Thursdays, so I recorded the show. I'll be home this week, but I think I'm going to record it anyway and try to record this whole season so I can rewatch whatever I want until the S6 DVDs come out. :) I hope my VCR holds out!

I think I still have some purchased VHS tapes of Quantum Leap in a box in the back of my closet...
