Young Sheldon Discussion Thread

Okay, Iain is adorable, talented and a good singer for his age, but that was NOT Sheldon. Sheldon can't act, Sheldon can't perform. To me they have officially broken off from TBBT, this is a different character.

I haven't watched the episode yet, but TBH I'm not really looking forward to do it, exactly for this reason. That's not Sheldon.

I agree @bfm . The episode was an extreme variation for the Sheldon character. The most glaring to date.

That being said, Jason Alexander was fun here and the Mee-Maw and Missy characters are so, so, so enjoyable for me, they are what bring me back each episode. I hope hat Annie Potts recreates thevrole for Sheldon & Amy’s wedding. No offense to June Squibb...

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking watching this episode. It was written to showcase Iain's talents, but it doesn't align with the Sheldon we have known for 11 years. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Jason Alexander's appearance and the mention of spaghetti with hot dogs for dinner.

We know adult Sheldon is musical enough when he wants to be - or is drunk. Perhaps this incident, of looking out into such  a huge audience unprepared  - stupid school- gave him such a severe attack of stage fright it accounted for his  decades-long fear of public speaking to crowds above thirty. It's probably why he needed acting lessons when he grew up.

Adult Sheldon can sing properly but certainly not act. I can't imagine him going from what we saw on YS to stiff, unable to match his intonation to the part and not understanding much of the whole concept as we saw on TBBT. The latter fits Sheldon MUCH more, IMO.

This seems to me like an example of the "Sheldon can do everything and be great at it" view that I hated so much when it appeared on TBBT (and I'm so glad it is gone from there now). My guess is it's a Molaro thing.

I don't know, I've tried to find "in-universe" explanations for these deviations from TBBT canon so far, but it has come to a point when it has taken away my enjoyment for the show.

It looks like she's getting her hair curled. I wonder if the Coopers are attending a special event in the finale...
