Jonny
14 hours ago, djsurrey said: The Young Sheldon version of Sheldon appears to have a lot more maturity than the version of Sheldon in The Transporter Malfunction (just saw the rerun again last night). Apparently Sheldon regresses a lot after leaving home. Occam's Razor? You simply can't have a kid act like early seasons TBBT Sheldon because people won't find a character likeable or endearing enough to stick watching it. So they softened the character a lot, gave him a friend and made him more aware on an emotional level. I watched almost 3 episodes of the show and the contrast was stark, I talk to friends regularly who watch both shows and the difference is still night and day between the two portrayals of the character, the young version and the one we know from say Seasons 1-3 of TBBT. I don't believe any traumatic event (a more broken home, the death of his father included) will make the transformation of the character that believable. I think people will watch the last episode of YS, already seen how TBBT plays out and will not find it all that believable. For some that doesn't matter as long as they are entertained. If I was worried about being believable I would have stopped watching after The Luminous Fish Effect. Edited October 31, 2018 by djsurrey

MookiStar
not a bad show i found TBBT late on around season 10 so i am very late to the party but when YS came out i ignored it because from what i had seen it didnt have the same comical timing as TBBT and that is what i like about TBBT but recently i watched the first series and i came away with mixed feelings, while i feel spirit of TBBT in the show it feels so far removed from anything ever mentioned on TBBT that you really have to take it as a seperate entity and that alone even with tam coming to the main show and the cross over coming soon i feel personally if you try compare or quantify the two shows you will end up disappointed as a stand alone show it averages a 6 or 7 depending on the week for me ill continue to watch and season 2 this year has been better but it'll always be second to the main show for me

It followed the adventures of Gordon Shumway (Alf), an alien puppet voiced by Paul Fusco, who crash landed at the Tanner household and lived with the family. The series has been referenced on Young Sheldon a few times already, and Howard discovered an Alf doll inside a box of memorabilia in the third season episode "The Precious Fragmentation" of The Big Bang Theory. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALF_(TV_series)

I hadn't picked up those references at all. Sounds like an interesting series. I don't think it ever reached our shores.

Most of the non-British programmes we got were Australian. There were some American ones though, especially when they started putting TV that wasn't cricket, horse racing or Wimbledon on during the day. Dallas, Dynasty, and I Dream Of Jeanie, were on that Sheldon might have seen. There was also Bewitched but perhaps his mother wouldn't have let him see that one. We liked Soap and WKRP in Cincinatti but they were on too late for the younger Coopers and the former was perhaps a little too racy for Mary to allow anyway.
