NeckShotLime
I wasn't sure where to post this so Tensor please remove my post if it's not in the right place. In an episode George Sr calls Missy " slugger" , ( that made me smile) . I was wondering is it a common nickname for young girls in the US ? I thought it was a made-up nickname Wyatt came up with for Penny. Does it mean anything then ? Thank you

I thought it was a made-up nickname Wyatt came up with for Penny. Does it mean anything then ? Thank you Since it was used for Missy, it's appropriate. As for your question, it's a sorta, kinda, common nickname for baseball players, slugger meaning a good hitter. In years past, baseball was pretty much exclusive to boys, so for a girl to be playing was to think of her as a "tomboy" (I think girls softball started becoming popular in the late 80s early 90s.). Missy is shown to be rather good at girls softball, so slugger fits. In Penny's case, it appears that her father thought of her as a tomboy, until she started puberty. At that point, it became difficult for him to see her as a tomboy, so he stopped calling her slugger. It appears he began calling her slugger after she got older and their relationship got better. Also, being in a rural area, there were probably limited chances for Penny to play girls softball (until it became more ubiquitous) and she would have had to play boys baseball. TLW
Young Sheldon is now in it's 5th season. But "in universe" (the chronology of the story), how much time has passed? If Sheldon was 9 in the first season when he started high school and 11 when he started college. But the start of his college classes wasn't until season 4, correct? vonmar
From TV Insider ‘Young Sheldon’ Season 5: ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Star Ming-Na Wen to Guest Star The Big Bang Theory was known for wowing its viewers with appearances from sci-fi icons, but it was always an especially big deal when someone from the Star Wars universe — Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), James Earl Jones (Darth Vader), and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) come to mind — would stop by. And now the sitcom’s prequel, Young Sheldon, is heading to a galaxy far, far away by adding Ming-Na Wen, currently starring as Fennec Shand on Disney+’s The Book of Boba Fett, as a guest star! TV Insider has learned exclusively that the star of The Mandalorian spinoff will appear in a February episode titled, “A Free Scratcher and Feminine Wiles.” In the episode, Wen plays Dr. Carol Lee, director of experimental cosmology at East Texas Tech University, who will butt heads with 11-year old student Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage). Given Sheldon has a knack for driving professors like Dr. Grant Linkletter (Ed Begley, Jr.) and President Linda Hagemeyer (Wendie Malick) more than a little crazy with his incessant questions and suggestions, will he also test Dr. Lee’s patience? <full article in the link>

While TBBT , more or less, had each season equal a year (basically moved in real time), the creators of YS specifically said a season of YS doesn't necessarily equal a full year. While they may get by with that for a while, having preteens on the show kinda forces the show to move at least somewhat close to real time.
