The Big Bang Theory' episode with 'Young Sheldon' stars planned

With two of the cast playing children in the family two years younger, as they mature will the series have to end or  will they skip ahead  in the story and make Iain look older ?

This calls for a celebratory helping of spaghetti and cut-up hotdogs: CBS has picked up Young Sheldon for not one, not two, but three more seasons.

From Deadline Hollywood

‘Young Sheldon’ Broadcast Syndication Rights Sold In Over 90% Of U.S.

Young Sheldon, the hit WBTV-produced prequel to Chuck Lorre’s The Big Bang Theory, will launch nationwide in syndication in fall 2021. WarnerMedia has sold the broadcast syndication television rights to the series in over 90% of the U.S., the company said today.

The series will air in top Nexstar markets along with stations from Sinclair, CBS, Hearst, Gray, Tegna, Scripps, Cox, Meredith, Graham, Weigel, Allen Media, Sunbeam, News-Press, Londen Media, Griffin, Lockwood, Morris amongst others. In addition to syndication, Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory also sold in SVOD to HBO Max.

“WarnerMedia continues to deliver to our broadcast partners distinctive and franchise making comedies that both viewers and advertisers crave,” said David Decker, Executive Vice President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. “With Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory in syndication, the full story of Sheldon Cooper, the iconic and beloved character that connects both shows, will bring humor, laughter and joy to television stations every day of the week.”

Created by Lorre and Steven Molaro, Young Sheldon premiered on CBS in 2017 and was the most watched comedy debut in 15 years. Currently in its fourth season, and recently picked up by CBS for an additional three, the series is television’s #1 comedy show delivering nearly 10 million total viewers a week and is also #1 with Adults 25-54. Young Sheldon joins fellow Chuck Lorre series Two and a Half Men, Mom and Mike & Molly in syndication along with The Big Bang Theory which sold for its 3rd cycle beginning fall of 2023.

Young Sheldon is executive produced by Lorre, Molaro, Steve Holland, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak. The comedy series is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

I wasn't sure where to post this so Tensor please remove my post if it's not in the right place.

In an episode George Sr calls Missy " slugger" , ( that made me smile) . I was wondering is it a common nickname for young girls in the US ? I thought it was a made-up nickname Wyatt came up with for Penny. Does it mean anything then ? Thank you

Since it was used for Missy, it's appropriate.  As for your question, it's a sorta, kinda, common nickname for baseball players, slugger meaning a good hitter.  In years past, baseball was pretty much exclusive to boys, so for a girl to be playing was to think of her as a "tomboy" (I think girls softball started becoming popular in the late 80s early 90s.).  Missy is shown to be rather good at girls softball, so slugger fits.  In Penny's case, it appears that her father thought of her as a tomboy, until she started puberty.  At that point, it became difficult for him to see her as a tomboy, so he stopped calling her slugger.  It appears he began calling her slugger after she got older and their relationship got better.   Also, being in a rural area, there were probably limited chances for Penny to play girls softball (until it became more ubiquitous) and she would have had to play boys baseball.

Young Sheldon is now in it's 5th season. But "in universe" (the chronology of the story), how much time has passed?

If Sheldon was 9 in the first season when he started high school and 11 when he started college. But the start of his college classes wasn't until season 4, correct?

From TV Insider

‘Young Sheldon’ Season 5: ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Star Ming-Na Wen to Guest Star

The Big Bang Theory was known for wowing its viewers with appearances from sci-fi icons, but it was always an especially big deal when someone from the Star Wars universe — Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), James Earl Jones (Darth Vader), and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) come to mind — would stop by.

And now the sitcom’s prequel, Young Sheldon, is heading to a galaxy far, far away by adding Ming-Na Wen, currently starring as Fennec Shand on Disney+’s The Book of Boba Fett, as a guest star! TV Insider has learned exclusively that the star of The Mandalorian spinoff will appear in a February episode titled, “A Free Scratcher and Feminine Wiles.”

In the episode, Wen plays Dr. Carol Lee, director of experimental cosmology at East Texas Tech University, who will butt heads with 11-year old student Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage). Given Sheldon has a knack for driving professors like Dr. Grant Linkletter (Ed Begley, Jr.) and President Linda Hagemeyer (Wendie Malick) more than a little crazy with his incessant questions and suggestions, will he also test Dr. Lee’s patience?

While TBBT , more or less, had each season equal a year (basically moved in real time), the creators of YS specifically said a season of YS doesn't necessarily equal a full year.   While they may get by with that for a while, having preteens on the show kinda forces the show to move at least somewhat close to real time.

The reason I was wondering. Does it seem to the rest of you that Ian Armitage's voice is starting to change?
