Thanks. It didn't occur to me that the coach needn't always be a teacher. Here ( England and Wales ) it's possible some of them might have timetables to teach nothing but  games (sports) and related subjects, but they'd be qualified teachers. At a school where I was a governor (don't know what the US term is, it's a member of a committee of  staff and local volunteers who make decisions about a school )  the football teacher also taught Latin because it made a change from standing around outdoors, he said. George said he got a bad reputation because he was honest and stood up for the regulations. Hmmmm ......... He was a bit of a drip in the staff meeting about Sheldon.

So the scruffy, punk, goth, tattoed and ill-turned-out students, and the non-enforcement of the dress and grooming code, not to mention the state of the toilets, are signs the school's not very prestigious ? That hadn't registered with me.  So that means they're not all like that, good.   I get it now. Thanks.

Perhaps he'll be like Mayim. She said it was her science lessons on set that got her interested in taking it up when it was time to leave Blossom and go to uni.

It's not very prestigious (hence, rich) because it's a public school in a little suburb, and  public schools in USA have less money than private ones to spend in their football team (or in anything else, for that matter...)

I notice crazy things... I'm a middle school counselor, so it's an occupational hazard.  Has anyone else noticed the difference in Iain Armitage's teeth?  Look at his teeth in the pilot, as opposed to the interviews he did with Jim when it premiered.  Interested to see if they are going to address it.

I am glad I was not the only one who noticed that! They are noticeable diferent but I am crazy for details, lol!

Yep, his second ones have come through now and have lined up nicely. He looks older in every way, because he is. They change so quickly ! Teeth of eight-to-nine-year-old children are not the only things that grow : their feet do it too, and cost money, which is an issue addressed in the pilot. That's how we learn there are affordability problems in the family. Growing children need bigger shoes, but not bigger mouths, fortunately, although the latter often develop anyway, totally free of charge.

I haven't even heard of Young Sheldon until today; I saw the pilot episode online.

I think it is great as young actors may wish to keep studying until university. It may be a useful tool for them if things would not keep sucessful in acting field.  And also because getting wiser about a field they love is always a great personal anchievment.

Btw, I wish it could air ep 2 tomorrow. Nov is far away and I am really curious about what is coming up to the young Sheldon at school and with his father.

This isn't all that improbable in 1980's Texas. Football is almost a religion in Texas, and there have historically been major issues associated with 'recruiting' kids from other districts to change schools. Someone 'sabotaging' such efforts could well find themselves on thin ice job wise. Also, Texas is not a state where unions hold a lot of power. So, in that time it could have been much easier to fire a faculty member for less than well documented misconduct. Less so these days.

Not just Texas... this scandal from 5 years ago is still affecting how we handle proof of residency in all of our county schools.

‘Young Sheldon’ Is Breakout Ratings Hit In Canada Too

The same night Young Sheldon premiered on CBS as the most watched comedy series debut in 6 years, The Big Bang Theory spinoff also had a big opening in Canada where posted the biggest debut for a new comedy in ten years with an average of 3.6 million viewers, 1.5 million of them in the adults 25-54 demographic.

And like in the U.S., Young Sheldon was paired with Big Bang and almost matched the veteran’s delivery, 3.8 million viewers, 1.7 million adults 25-54.

Following Young Sheldon’s strong debut on CBS, the network last week gave the single-camera comedy an early full-season pickup.
