From an interview Jim did with Deadline Hollywood dated 8/30/2020

DEADLINE: What’s next for you? As you mentioned, there’s The Boys in the Band, directed by your Hollywood co-star Joe Mantello…

<snip>

"I’m not involved as an actor on this, but as a producer, we’re working on the show Call Me Kat with Mayim Bialik over at Fox, and we have a table read for that tomorrow. I don’t know, schedule-wise, what [the coronavirus pandemic] means, but these things are going on."

therealjimparsons:  Tonight “Call Me Kat” premiers on FOX (after NFL 🏈 ). Due to Covid-restrictions, I have not actually met about half of this cast in person, face-to-face. In one way, though, it hasn’t mattered: from watching their work on these first episodes we’ve shot, I feel like I know them well and adore them all. And I think there’s a good chance many of you will feel the same.

Consider tonight a first date. There’s a chance for a second date already scheduled for this coming Thursday, January 7th, at 9e/8/c (the normal spot for the show).

A huge thank you and a major appreciation, too, to all the members of the crew I’ve obviously not been able to be there with in person but who have done some truly spectacular work (and with masks and shields on!). Many of these folks I have never met at all, but a few, like Big Bang director-alums Mark Cendrowski and Anthony Rich, I just haven’t been able to hug, as one would rightfully expect to do, greeting each other as a new chapter opens. Hopefully sometime in 2021 ALL these greetings will happen!

Alright. Enough! ENJOY THE SHOW! Love, Jim.            @callmekatfox

Overall, I enjoyed it (I have a houseful of cats, so yeah, that was a factor).  I really liked the ending when they all waved (and Mayim's explanation of why they did it that way, makes sense, now).  The only minor nitpick, for me, was how much they broke the fourth wall.  About half of what they did would have been better, again, for me.    I will be watching on Thursday.

Call Me Kat, had pretty decent ratings last night.  It finished with a 1.3 demo, with 5.3 million viewers.  It was the only broadcast( besides football) to break a 1.0.  For comparison, there were three other season premieres last night:

The Great North.          0.6             2.3 million

Last Man Standing       0.5             2.4 million

The Rookie                    0.5             3.3 million

The test will come Thursday night, without a Football lead in.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't 'must see' veiwing, either. Entirely too much breaking of the 4th wall and it messed with the continuity of the scenes. I'll give it a try and see if they can find their footing. It will be interesting to see the viewer numbers stay steady as the weeks go on.

I haven't seen it nor do I plan to watch the show.

Struggled with it last night.  The writing is, I don't want to say bad, cause it isn't that, but just more, I guess forgettable.  While I remember the general thrust of the show, except for the musical montage, I don't remember much of anything specifically about the show.   I had a couple of giggles, but not an out and out laugh, until the commercial after the show.  Again, the amount of breaking of the fourth wall was a bit much, but again, I did like the ending with the actors acknowledging, the viewers.

As for the ratings, Call Me Kat, had a 0.6, with 3.2 million viewers.  This was a drop of a half a point and 2.1 million viewers.  it finished third in its time slot, and was in a four way tie, for fifth place, for the night in demo.  In viewers, it finished ninth.  On the bright side, it only dropped a tenth of a point in demo, and actually increased a half a million viewers over  it's lead in, "Hell's Kitchen".

For comparison, A Young Sheldon repeat had a 0.6 also, but with 4.3 million viewers.   The high for the night was Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, with a 1.1 and 7.8 million viewers.

I'd at least give it a look if it were on one of my steaming services. I have given up cable and off the air reception is not reliable in my location.

I'd also be watching Young Sheldon but will have to wait for Netflix or the Roku channel to pick it up some day. Mostly watching old old stuff on Roku these days.

I just watched both episodes on Instagram (Call me Kat account) and I liked it. Not entirely funny but it was different, sweet, love the positivity, (the mother character was a bit annoying) but I liked it more than I thought I would after hearing so many cruddy reviews. Leslie Jordan is adorable. I think it has good potential
