Lol, so Raj gets a girl this week? Maybe more than a one-night stand this time?

'curious about how this will work out! Seems like it will be interesting! :)

Sorry to double-post, but I do have to beat my longtime rival in the posting of promos! ^_^

Here you go! Spoilers, obviously! And enjoy! :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntffnVPGNQk

I could say that ok you beat me regarding the promo, however, the promo is of low quality, not that it matters of course but I had to say something for being defeated this time. hahahaha

Good one Irvine and of course Damn you!! lol though I'm just kidding, (have to point that out to prevent taking it personal)

That's a good friend's girlfriend, you can lie to her to cover up for a friend and she believes it, that is one example of how this is just a tv show, that is one thing that wouldn't happened in real life lol. :icon_lol:

Well, gang, I think we've hit rock bottom. That was without a doubt the worst episode of the entire series. The "Desperation" of the title was clearly that of the writers desperately trying and failing to write anything close to a usable script.

Sheldon was completely out of character. He said bizarre things like "What makes you chuckle, Leonard?" His "stars closest to me" thing on the stairs was just silly and again, out of character and bizarre. I kept thinking that the writers must have invented it to desperately fill time in the episode after they wrote Penny out. Raj suddenly has a girlfriend ("Two words ... deaf chick!" I literally cringed). Now hey, this could have been the basis for the episode and we might have had something worth watching. Instead, Raj was practically written out of the episode! Did he break a leg too?

So what did we get instead of anything approaching clever dialogue and characterizations? An appalling dung heap of crude humor. It's as if the writers were completely unable to think of anything and so just threw in as much offensive drivel as they could work up to try to get a cheap laugh. And the ending? Probably the most embarrassingly bad scene I've seen in years of watching television. No, Sheldon would not have said those things, he IS NOT CAPABLE OF LYING, remember? On top of that, he's very uncomfortable with that kind of talk, as he pointed out in Robot Manipulation (when he "translated" something Leonard said as "cockamamie" and then admitted that even that word bothered him). It was utterly, completely out of character. And it wasn't in the least bit funny unless you're a twelve-year-old boy who snickers like Beavis and Butthead upon hearing the word "vagina".

I will say that I am beginning to loathe the way they write the character of Amy even more than I loathed the way they wrote Kripke. And that's saying something. I hope Amy does a Dr. Stephanie and disappears without a trace, and the sooner the better.

Please, writers, don't do this again. I beg of you. This episode is a travesty. Go watch Adhesive Duck or Work Song Nanocluster or Middle Earth Paradigm and rediscover what a good episode looks and sounds like. Find your way back to TBBT the way it should be. Please.

i agree 100%. all these crude jokes must mean they actually have no

ideas left. they've pretty much killed the sheldon character. when he had to say "leonard went to the office" he was twitching so much. as if he'd be able to lie to amy's mother like that.

too many contradictions :(

I actually enjoyed the episode overall. Sure there are some minor complaints, like Raj suddenly having a deaf girlfriend, but I think it had many funny moments and Sheldon freaking out when Amy wants him to meet his mother was pretty funny.

I think many people want Sheldon to stay the same and I think that is unrealistic. Sheldon as a character will change and the writers can make changes to his character and still retain some of the core aspects of his character.

Hmm, actually, I found the ''deaf girlfriend'' comment funny! Not overwhelmingly hilarious, but very funny! 'dunno if we're gonna meet her, or if it's only for that specific episode? :p

I completely agree. Raj's "deaf girl" was quite a stupid moment, but I also liked Sheldon's reaction to Amy's wish for him to meet her mother. I did not even notice the lack of Penny, which was actually surprising for me, since I like her character. But although Amy is also an OK character, she could never replace Penny, and I hope she'll be back soon. And I was thrilled that the focus was (partly) finally on Leonard for a change.

I hope the girl that was setup Leonard was written in due to Kaley if not what the frak? The ending was so crude.

@white knight what are you referring to?

Penny please return soon.

I don't think it's out of the realm for Sheldon to change or grow as a person look at how much he's changed due to penny being in his life, so now he has two friends that are women so it's not to crazy to think he might realize he'd want companship.

I'd like too know whatthe show was really suppose to be about before Kaley got hurt or was this it and they just wrote her out of it.

Well Bernadette is the opposite of match making compared to Penny was with Bernadette for Howard, I'm not even sure how or where Bernadette would meet someone like Joy.

Although I respect your comment I disagree, I loved this episode and I thought Sheldon was still the same just because he engaged in talking about intercourse he was a different? no, he was the same and funnier and amy was funny. Sheldon is still human don't forget that. Yes he did lie and he went over bored as he normally does and does not understand what is appropriate and what is not (which is how he acts). Amy is amazing and In my opinion has made the show even funnier. Its like Sheldon has a intelligent young mind trapped in a grown mans body and he is slowly growing up in a way.. that may sound a little odd. Either way Shamy is the best!

The scene with Sheldon running down the stairs after Leonard was hilarious, he was all calm when Amy asked him to meet her mother then the panic set in!

I love Sheldon in this episode--I love his little star chant going down the stairs. I think it's something that he would really do, partly scientific rote (like the "Elements" song) and partly OCD behavior--having to go back all the way to the top and do it over when he made a mistake, and having to make the names fit the stairs, etc. Too perfect!

And I think that to his mind "perpetrating a ruse" is different from outright lying. If he knows something and you ask him to tell you, then he has trouble lying or keeping secrets. I don't think that it's that he can't lie. He can't keep up a lie for long, but he will sometimes try.

And with Amy's mom, it's more like a Bazinga prank than a lie. And since he doesn't communicate with her mom in any other moment, he doesn't have to worry about her finding out the truth. AND, I think that the kind of language he and Amy were using is the only way they could say such things, since they don't, or at least, he doesn't normally talk about such things. It's more like their awkward attempt to talk like lovers or something.

I understand from the taping report for this episode that the poem on the stairs was pre-taped. That's too bad--I would have loved to get a glimpse at JP's process for doing that, whether they had to do it several times, since the segments would have been broken up by having to use the fake stairs, etc. I imagine that it would be hard enough to memorize the little poem (which was, apparently, written specifically for the show), but to then have to break it up into segments as they filmed it in little chunks--I wonder if it would have been harder or easier to do it in short segments. Dunno, but I'd love to hear JP talk about it. :)
