Dealing with the end of the series

Hey dear Big Bang Theory fans,

I just finished watching the show this Tuesday after watching the complete series throughout the last three to four months. As I am from Germany, I obviously watched it in german synchronisation. The show gave me so much joy and happiness throughout these months of the year, I cannot even explain. And, well, now that I am finished watching, I feel like there's is an emptiness inside of me, as if something really important has gone. I mean that sounds like really stupid and I never felt that before when finishing a television series, but I hope you get what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I am not depressed or so but I feel like very sad. How did you deal with the end and how did you feel about it? Thank you for answering!

There’s a few of us that continue to come here.  I’ve continued to write fan fic. And I still watch it, repeats are on at 7 and 7:30 PM locally, and on TBS.  while no longer as consuming as it once was, I’m still involved with it.

I was very late to the party and watched the show for the first time this year , at the beginning of lockdown here in the UK so around May. I had obviously heard of the show but didnt really know what it was about so decided to give it a go. I got hooked on the 6th episode and Ive been watching the show on a loop for months now  I guess i don't have the same emotional attachment as anyone who watched the show when it first aired so i wasn't overly sad when it ended. To be honest, i struggled a bit after season 8 so i think after 12 seasons  it was maybe time to put an end to it.

Yeah, you're right. It wouldn't have been a good idea to continue the show further on, 12 seasons are enough and it was a good decision of Jim Parsons to finally pull the line. Now we get some fantastic 12 seasons and a wonderful finale!

I started watching TBBT the night it premeired and became more personally invested in this show than any other I've ever gotten into. I watched most new eprisodes when they first aired and have seen reruns so many times I couldn't possible keep count. Needless to say, I watched TBBT pretty much any time I could. When the show ended I totally lost all enthusiasm for watching and that lasted for several months. I continued to vist the forums but had no interest in watching TBBT. That has remedied somewhat and I will watch from time to time but still don't have the enthusiasm for it that I once did.

Oh my! I can sign every sentence of your post and like to confirm it for myself.
Although it was only after the 5th season of the series that I could really connect with all this "beautiful minded" tv-characters, this (our) unique forum with all its "verbal attacks" on every single episode makes me look back quite sad, but also satisfied...

Oh s..., I miss that.

I can’t let TBBT go. I’ve never had an experience such as what occurred for me in this fandom. I come here to the Forum every once and a while and still read fanfiction, but no longer review. Sorry writers. I’ll try...I watch an episode or two most weeknights. As@tensor said it is broadcast here nearly every night. The friends and acquaintances I’ve made here and (mainly) on Twitter are invaluable. Even though some no longer post, they remain an important part of my thoughts.

Anyway....I hope you all are well and are keeping safe!!

My sentiments exactly. TBBT had a great influence on my tv choices. I have the whole set of DVD's and watch reruns almost every night and now especially since this pandemic where there aren't many new shows being aired. As a retired guy and recent widower (my wife passed away in July) I find the reruns, DVD's, fan-fics and this forum a legitimate escape from my days and nights alone. Talking and rehashing old episodes and recent news of the cast makes each day a little bit better

As a retired guy and recent widower (my wife passed away in July) I find the reruns, DVD's, fan-fics and this forum a legitimate escape from my days and nights alone. Talking and rehashing old episodes and recent news of the cast makes each day a little bit better

Totally agree. I do have my favorite episodes saved on Direct TV. So I can watch them whenever I want.

Sorry for your loss. I too, am retired. Retired from The Navy in '95 and retired from working in general a couple years ago. There's always work around the though.

Thanks   I have an empty nest now as my daughters have their own families and lives but there is always something to try and occupy your time

I have 5 kids. 3 have moved out with families of their own. I'm probably stuck with the other 2 living with me.  😊

Know how you feel.  My older daughter and her two children lived with me for a year until they went on their own. It was pure chaos sometimes but now alone I cherish when they come to visit.

Polly, if you can get the episodes of TBBT which are broadcast  in the UK on E4 in the early hours of the morning, or watch the whole episodes on Netflix, you'll find there are many uncut lines that can make a difference to the meaning of certain scenes. It varies a lot, but some episodes have quite a chunk cut out during the day. Episode 4.1, in which Penny persuades Sheldon to have a proper date with Amy and Howard gets his naughty bits caught in the robot hand, is an example that springs to mind. 

Generally speaking, I'm finding all episodes easier to comprehend since they've had audio description. I use it for Young Sheldon too, especially when it comes to baseball. I  still need my daily fix of TBBT even though I've seen every one several times. I  like the grown-up characters as much as the crazy bachelors. Seasons 9-12 contain some of my favourite storylines, although I could have done without the sperm donor rubbish.

Tensor's fanfic 'The Unwrapped Consequences' is a tribute to the writers' intention that we should continue to imagine the characters' lives going on in the usual way.

Mario, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.   This forum meant so much to me (and still does).  I was medically retired and was not able to do a lot physically, and the forum filled my time with something I was able to do.  Everyone here, contributed to that, even the troublemakers (ahem... chucky 😝).  You should have seen a few of mine and Tripper's conversations.

I know what you are saying about this forum and I hope it continues as I thought that it may be discontinued after the show was finished. And I also feel everyone on this forum has become a friend and you are the leader of the band as you always come up with the most plausible explanations to questions.......and your fan-fic stories are pretty good as well  Thanks again and God Bless

Yeah, I've been married 43 years and I find it hard to picture not having her here.  You may have noticed more ads.  Tripper doesn't have a problem keeping it running, for now.  The ads reduce the cost to him.  I'm here to cover most of the day to day things.  I try to come up with things.  Also, I know some people don't watch Young Sheldon, but we do get an occasional note, about the Big Bang Universe.  We got one this week, as a matter of fact.  As for the rest, thanks.  🙂
