Personally, I really enjoyed the Beauty and the Geeks theme (s1-3) a lot, and wasn’t pleased to see the show change to the 3 ½ couples theme (s4-5); mostly out of fear that TBBT would be a rehash of Friends. Although the relationship aspects of TBBT (s4-5) and Friends are similar, I think TBBT can be different and perhaps better; as long as they continue to infuse the Geek/ Science aspects that made TBBT (s1-3) unique.

Currently, I think Sheldon and Amy are the most unpredictable and most interesting of the couples. I like the story lines, pace, and thought "The Launch Acceleration" (dinner date and "Star Trek” doctor) scenes were hilarious.

Yes, there are some great & truly funny moments still happening. I loved the whole garbage chair storyline, and the Star Trek Dr. scene. But these moments happen because of where this show has come from, not where it's going. The garbage chair plot was a classic Sheldon & Penny thing that we don't see much of anymore, and the Star Trek Dr. scene was the type of classic Star Trek reference that didn't need Sheldon to have a girlfriend to pull-off. Face it, shows revolving around relationships are a dime a dozen. If TBBT had started out resembling itself circa seasons 4-6, I would have never become interested in it, or only casualy if I had. I watch it now, because I'm already invested in the characters.

in any case, it would be now about 6 nerdy scientists and their blonde friend. Bernadette & Amy are also nerdy scientists. Or what? they don't count because they're girls? (as it has been stated before)

Hear, hear. :)

I'm not interested in relationship storylines per se. I'm very interested in Sheldon and Amy's relatonship because it's Unique with a capital U (at least so far) - and I find the dynamics between them more delightfully geeky than anything that ever happened in seasons 1 to 3.

Ha! Nice point!

I suspect that the fact that they are girls and they are now involved in relationships with the guys negates any value they might have to the geekdom as scientists...? :p

I hear what you are saying and feel the same, but at this point there's no use in crying over spilled milk. Hopefully, the writers will infuse enough of the Geeky stuff to separate TBBT from the typical relationship shows.

Guest I'm not dead Cheryl

the thing is, I don't get the complaining on the lack of "geeky" when talking about the Shamy relationship. Out of all the couples they are the ones who keep it alive: they go to Brian Greene conferences, have lunch in the lab, do fun with flags, watch Doctor Who, dine with Mario Bros music, do Star Trek role playing, and even have a Relationship Agreement.

I mean, I understand this discussion if it was about Leonard and Penny or Howard and Bernadette in a smaller measure. But the Shamy? they are geeky/nerd-compliant.

You've only been here a couple of weeks. If you had been around longer you could see that I've posted the exact same thing as he did many months ago. If I come across as rude I apologize. There's a new group of posters out here now and some aren't as adept as picking up sarcasm and handling disagreement as well as others. I'll try to factor in your sensitivity. This forum is about comments and, yes, disagreement about a show we obviously enjoy or we wouldn't be here. Again, I apologize if you find me rude. I'll try to do better. Have a shot on me.

aww you two, just make out already!

You already have me shipping you! :p I ship the Djonique ..... (I don't see that catching up at all :icon_lol: )

It amazes me that people want to take someone's opinions on this show so personally. Fascinating! And somewhat sad that people can invest themselves so deeply in a television show about fictional characters.

Okay, I know I'm getting old...

Yesterday I had posted in ONE OF THESE THREADS(!!!) asking about fanfic and where to post, etc., and someone recommended a couple of sites and asked me for some LJ links I had come across.

Sometime late last night/early this morning I did actually post a couple of LJ BBT community links as requested, but now I can't find that thread.

I know that it has to be in a thread that was updated sometime in the last 24 hours, but for the life of me, I can't find it. :icon_rolleyes::icon_eek:

You can check your last posts by clicking on your user name I believe. Been there done that (where I've lost a thread, LOL) Hope that works? It's on the left hand side.

Shamy is a horrific idea! It is a senseless connection.

Jim Parson's character has no social graces. He is a man of knowledge and dedicates his life to science. Sheldon having a girlfriend is a direct insult to this character. I think keeping Amy as a background character (Just as Leslie Winkle is) would have stood appropriate, but this relationship is depleting Sheldon's originality.

You might as well as said Sheldon should have no friends either, all he knows and cares about science. -_- His friends impact on the way he acts especially Penny and Leonard so Amy is only a small part.

Sheldon is still a human being, underneath his facade of being a man of pure intellect--we've seen this demonstrated again and again. For all his protestations to the contrary, he has deep feelings about a lot of things, including his friendship with Leonard.

In Amy we see a character that intrigues him mentally, which is the true way to this particular man's heart (along with spaghetti with little pieces of hotdog cut up in it), so much so that Sheldon is willing to consider and accept her as an important part of his life, even to the point of coming out of his stoicism and his "loner" approach to life. Why should he be alone when such a one as this exists?

No matter what happens between Sheldon and Amy, he will always be unique.

One of the things I've been doing lately is watching Jim in the scenes with Mayim.

It's interesting to see the choices he makes in Sheldon's expressions and body language in the scenes with Amy. I love watching his eyes in that short "playing doctor Star Trek style" scene--the way Sheldon is looking up at Amy as she "scans" him. ;)

And I was watching some Shamy videos and there's one clip that was used that I think came from the Shiny Trinket ep, where they're n the restaurant and he's looking at her while she's talking, I think when she's explaining their date night to Penny. He has this kind of warm, kind of sly, kind of charmed look in his eyes.

Very interesting. :p

Yes, that's the eye-coitus. This term may not be welcomed by some here, but just had to get the terminology across. Also, there are whole sets of gifs depicting these particular moments, for anyone interested. :)

But seriously, his expressions in the Star Trek roleplaying scene.. at the risk of repeating myself, Jim is a genius.
