Guest I'm not dead Cheryl
it's a Freudian theory... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penis_envy don't breathe too much into it. yep, that's why Amy begins her question to Penny with "Do you suscribe to the Freudian Theory of Penis Envy?" cbolt
Well according to the theory it means Amy wishes she were a man.
Guest I'm not dead Cheryl
Well according to the theory it means Amy wishes she were a man. no, it means ALL women go through that phase when starting puberty. (a.k.a. NO, IT DOESN'T MEAN AMY WISHES TO HAVE A PENIS SO SHE CAN HAVE SEX WITH PENNY) This theory is highly disregarded now but it is still part of the academic program for Psychology. Maybe it's because he's so absurd they just can't stop reading it.
Guest I'm not dead Cheryl
nah, it is because even if his theory's are no longer used anymore, they are historically relevant.

Well the page said a woman wishes to be a man, I didn't say she wishes to be a man to have sex with Penny(even though I'm surprised she hasn't made that comment with the others she's made). Guest I'm not dead Cheryl
I did have a "penis envy" discussion with my friends once. We all agreed we wished we had penises at one time or another, specially when going camping, the boys have it much easier, in those circumstances, u know? LOL So i totally understood Amy's question.. of all the women I know, all of us have had that conversation with other women.. Amy probably found that topic on the internet as one of the most common "girl talk" topics.
Br33na
no, it means ALL women go through that phase when starting puberty. well, not ALL women... just SOME. and it's at a younger age than puberty. (ages 3-6)

(ages 3-6) Freud did state that that phase was a required stage on ALL women, he was wrong, Piaget then disproved it, but the Freudian Theory that is what Amy was talking about does say it is all women. Br33na
clearly not EVERY girl acts/feels/experiences the same way. that's like saying "all girls like pink" or "all boys like sports". I'm just clarifying that it's an overall generalization. both Freud & Piaget have their developmental theories, but obviously not every single person fits into their theories. (Piaget's are more practical than Freud's psycho-sexual shit).

Br33na
Freud's a weirdo. (I have a degree in psychology). everything with him is sexual or deviant. like his Oedipus Complex... it's one thing to theorize that a young son might feel for his mother, or a young daughter might feel for her father... but then Freud's gotta go the extra mile and say, "and they want to kill the other parent". <--- the first and last time I'll ever use the devil face, lol. rachelshamyfan
This ep was just on tv and i don't know if this has been mentioned before but sheldon pretty much told raj that penny was with leonard yet still he was speaking when he went into leonards room, seems a case of selective mutism there! Engrprince
I am sorry to say I think this is the worse episode in the series. They spend much of it with cheap size jokes and again Penny is made to cheapen hers and Leonard's relationship
viddy9
I loved this episode. For someone who doesn't particularly like relationships, this episode reminds me that the Season 4 ones weren't so bad.
wannamaker
This was a nice episode, I thought, with a lot of laughs and the whole ensemble (old and new characters) working together rather well. The road trip and 'musical-bedrooms' ideas were fresh. And Raj saying, (at the conference on Science and Society). Can I weigh in? I think they are talking about penisses here! Holding and drinking a cocktail drink in his hand... of course A nice bonding for the entire group of nerds and meddling :D
gwhh
One of the best epsiode. I love the ending at the speaker table. Penny talling Sheldron to shut up was so funny!
CaitAmber
This'll always be one of my favourite episodes from Season 4, maybe the series - specifically for the discussion panel scene. I loved all of it, so good.
bakerstudent
Slightly off topic here. Has anyone noticed that Sheldon, Leonard and Raj had "Dr" before their name, whilst Bernadette and Amy didn't? Obviously Howard didn't have one for a reason. But Bernadette and Amy should do, they've completed their PhDs. Unless the writers are throwing in a casual pun in there suggesting a PhD in biology is not worthy of the title of "Dr" whilst physics is! Sorry, I'm a biologist haha

wonder63
I love this episode, the roadtrip with the whole gang its one of my favs in season 4 by far. The show needs to keep doing these type of episodes, or do one every season.
Stephen Hawking
Did Penny actually sleep with Glenn?
Tensor
There really isn't a definitive answer. In one of my fan fics, Leonard accuses Penny of doing it, but she gets angry that he doesn't believe her, that nothing happened. Stephen Hawking
Well according to the theory it means Amy wishes she were a man.No, she said:-Not for sex, for convenience. You can’t deny that, by comparison, our internal plumbing is extremely high maintenance. and again Penny is made to cheapen hers and Leonard's relationshipIn what way did she cheapen their relationship?
